Losing a thing. Then finding the thing. Then thinking you put the thing away. Then realizing you didn't. Then tearing the world apart to find the thing. But no luck. Then making a new thing. This is exactly what my ADHD life looks like.
Beautiful 💖. Hint: I ditched the black sharpie that I would secretly use for washable crayola markers. Love the color options and cheaper then the pencils or markers from the fabric store.
you know, now that you've made a new one, the old one is gonna get jealous and pop up where you didn't think it should have ever been even if you've looked there millions of times while looking for it.
Stephani darling even though I’m not a vintage so I do enjoy you. I always lose collar stands. I don’t care if I’ve laid the pattern out and cut out the piece. I lose it. Drive me effing crazy. I have a baggie full of different pockets that I use wherever I like and I never lose that! And I’ve been sewing since I was nine and I’m 74 and I still make mistakes and I just wear my clothing because they’re still better made than what you can buy in the store even the high-end store so keep at it. I love what you do you’re so much.
I wish I had all your “scraps” to help me get my baby blankets for the Women’s Center in Ft. Payne, Alabama. It’s a fantastic organization that help new families get a hand up when preparing for new babies. I make blankets, purp pads, hats and even shoes
I'll have you know I just utterly disrupted the book reading upstairs by giggling loudly and hysterically at the labels around the yoke. And yes, I know you're pleased with yourself. You should be.
I love your “warning labels”. I may have to steal your method. I was glad to see you print “Don’t lose” on your pock piece. I had just been thinking I would write all over it. I sew in chaos, too. My tiny little ADd brain loses the most important things, frequently.
Sarcastic notes to self are my standard operating mode too, things like "don't forget the seam allowance this time!" and "Facing first, freakshow!!" "this side up, doofus!" "this way leads only to tears!"
Just remember: piecing is a thing (and is very vintage)! You can even get creative with it (complimentary color block strips, anyone?). Not having quite enough fabric shouldn't stop you from giving your garment its best life.
I enjoy watching the video and pretending that I will sew again. I am in the hospital with kidney issues at 67, sò I doubt it, but maybe. I need a sewing helper, but live alone and don't have one. My mother was great at sewing, but she has been gone for 5 years now. My son and grandson are not interested in such things. Thank you, Stephanie.
My name is also Stephanie, I have tried but don’t understand how to make clothes and when you were like “this bit, the front of the skirt Stephanie.” I was like why are you growling at me 😂😂😂😂😂
I know we all love you for your humor and general loveliness, but the part when you tried to tear the fabric in half was so hilarious - it made me like you even more! edit: and now she throws in a rocky horror pic joke - I have been charmed to death!
Those labels look excellent (swears profusely at Brexit). Two suggestions for tailor tacks vs interfacing: 1) Put your tailor tacks into already interfaced fabric (what I do) 2) use eyebrow tweezers to remove tailor tack threads (also what I do)
I’m a newer follower to you and the sewing in chaos, and just wanted to say thank you! I love your content and attitude, and always get giddy when I see you’ve uploaded or a video from you is on my home page! :) Thank you for all you do Stephanie!
I now have my favorite pocket piece under a magnet on my wall right now, with bright red instructions, because I have misplaced it twice. The struggle is real!
I love that dress! I love the fabric, I love how the neckline looks on you, I love how the darts are pairs of smaller darts instead of the more 60s super-geometric angles, I love the super-kicky skirt. I love all of this. Also love the Gandalf seam ripper!
That pocket pattern is going to be your 10mm socket. No matter how many you have you can't find it. Beautiful patterns and dress. I thought you added sequins to the center of some of the roses in the reveal, but it was probably just a white dot in the pattern. Everyone looked lovely at the frocktail. Thanks.
You don’t fool me for one minute. I caught that extra fluffiness caused by a surreptitious under slip puffy thing. You little minx. Love the dress love how fluffy it is love watching you whenever I get a chance.
Excellent twirling skirt and a great color for you. The two most important mantras all makers must embrace: 1. I can do hard things. 2. There IS a solution.
I found the same Bernina sewing machine on Facebook Marketplace for $175.00. It didn't have the embroidery module so I found one that had never been taken out of the box for $100.00. The machine came in a Horn cabinet. The son had no idea what he had and he was clearing out his mother's estate. He threw in 3 boxes of beautiful fabric and a box of 64 spools of unused embroidery thread. In other words it was the estate sale that kept on giving. When I heard the boot up sound, I grinned from ear to ear since I know you love a bargain. Have fun at Frocktails. I can't wait to get well enough to go to one of your events and meet you in person.
OMG STEPHANIE MADE A MOCKUP! *edit: that's so frigging cute! **second edit: I will go use the good fabric. What are the labels made of that's not scratchy?
The dress is awesome but even better is that you are such a blessing to so many viewers like myself. You bring joy in my life while sharing a hobby I have long enjoyed. God Bless you and your family, may he keep you safe in all your travels.
I always enjoy your content Steph, thanks. I have an idea about your favorite pocket pattern piece. iF it will fit full size on you scanner, scan it and save it to PDF so you can print it when needed.
So funny watching what is to you vintage and to me was modern. I didn't start sewing until late 50's but I spent all thoses other years watching my mother sew, she was very skilled.
Turned out great. Perfect for the event also. I would suggest making another one with the pattern's skirt. Maybe out of a black fabric for a "cocktail party" type event. Your own little black dress.
You got the skirt flair just right, and like the pretty blue button in the front. You're very entertaining while sewing. Those directions were chaotic all right. Good Work 👏🌹
12:35 After seeing you in this dress in the Missing Pattern Pieces video, I came here to watch you make it. I paused here, because I'm just so enjoying this, and wanted to say so. 😍😁 I need to start watching you more often. I've been subscribed for at least a year, if not two, so there's no excuse. 🤭 Back to the video...
As I was watching (and laughing hysterically) I was wondering if you had a camera in my sewing/studio room as I swear our self-talk and sewing activities are much the same! Thanks for the entertainment as my hubby would say - as I am a walking comedy show and most of the time it is me, just "being me"! Happy I found you on UA-cam. x's another chaos coordinator
We can’t waste fabric.. says Stephanie Canada who has a storage locker full to the brim with several lifetime’s full of fabric…😂 I absolutely adore the blue rose fabric. Stephanie, the finished product is one of the best dresses 👗 you have made to date. More importantly you look divine in it! And the floofy crinoline is soo you! I like that you have a sewing notions sponsor, I am going to check them out for sure. And finally, today’s video featured vintage fabric, a vintage pattern, and..vintage Stephanie Canada.🇨🇦 I am not sure if you realize how much of an inspiration your hoot and a holler videos are for your subscribers… ❤❤❤❤
Have you ever thought about a video where you answer the basic how-to questions? Is there a proper way or faster way to rip a seam? Or does it matter which direction you sew a seam? Or how hot should your iron be when pressing open seams.or if you can't match the thread color to the fabric, do you pick the lighter or darker color...questions like that.
Great Job! I noticed on your top stitching that they are nice and straight. Also I heard that water soluble color pencils make good washable fabric markers.
We have the same machine :) - the slowest start up ever... This machine has a basting feature, the works great. use the "long stitch" function and lengthen your stitch length a bit. I use it lot when making mock ups, gathering and blind hemming. Turns a 4mm stitch length to an 8mm stitch.
Hello Stephanie!! I live in Atlanta and I sew a bit. I will definitely attend this event next year!! I'm always looking for fun and cultural events to attend.
I'm old so when I learned to sew there was no such thing as a seam ripper. We used single edge razor blades which meant both blood on fabric and cut fabric. Also, my mom's (her grandmother's) Minnesota treadle sewing machine sewed the tightest seams that I've ever seen. Hint, if you cut the fabric while ripping a seam, you can make the seam just a tad wider to encase the cut.
It's a shame you couldn't make the skirt part. And even though I loved the fabric and the surprise of a Wild Canada appearance, I'm going to have to INSIST you make the skirt. I NEED to see that skirt!! You totally don't understand!!!! I have a -er-little problem. I have a slight --uhm -- I -- ah -- collect, (yeah, that's it!) I COLLECT unique skirt patterns. I totally don't care if you put it on another bodice top or just make it as a skirt -- I NEED TO SEE IT!!!!!! Beautiful dress. The party looked like so much fun! Need to see the skirt. need to totally ok bye
you can draft any old skirt pattern you like. Maybe buy yourself a text on fashion design drafting. I used to collect unusual sleeve patterns until I learned drafting techniques and sleeves are much more technical than skirts.
OMG, I laughed from start of dress to end watching you make this. I love your humour and the comments you add. It's so great to see a fellow sewer voicing everything that my brain goes through whenever I sew; it proves to my partner that I'm not the only crazy sewer out. there.
Love your fabric too. ❤ The labels are cool . The shot of your machine s view of you 😂. Make a proper brown paper pattern of that special pocket then you can put a hole in it, hook on a hanger and hang it in the closet. You looked great and im glad you had a great time.🩷
I so enjoyed watching this video, Stephanie your sewing shennigans make me laugh. I love your fabric and how the dress turned out. I learnt long ago to make sure all my pattern pieces fit on the fabric before I cut anything out. Great save.
I believe the keyhole yoke was a deliberate pattern alternation to your liking, personalising it to your taste, and definitely not unintentional or a mistake.
Losing a thing. Then finding the thing. Then thinking you put the thing away. Then realizing you didn't. Then tearing the world apart to find the thing. But no luck. Then making a new thing. This is exactly what my ADHD life looks like.
Saaaaameeeeeeeee 🥴🙃
See, this is why I’m fairly convinced I’m AuDHD. But I don’t need the assessment as I’m not working anymore. This SO MANY TIMES.
You forgot the part where it shows back up after the replacement is made.
Mine too!
@@IlorinWaern Absolutely. I've literally bought things to replace the lost item knowing the thing would show up as soon as I opened the packaging...
I thought for sure it was going to be on the corkboard when she went to pin the new one.
I know my opinion doesn't matter, but despite the fact that I generally hate prints, I love that fabric. I think the dress came out beautifully.
The funniest part for me was when you yelled at yourself, "The front of the skirt, Stephanie"
Stephani darling even though I’m not a vintage so I do enjoy you. I always lose collar stands. I don’t care if I’ve laid the pattern out and cut out the piece. I lose it. Drive me effing crazy. As ye sew, so shall ye rip! My motto on anything I do. Sewing, crochet or knitting. I need do a cross stitch motto of it. It's my life.
I wish I had all your “scraps” to help me get my baby blankets for the Women’s Center in Ft. Payne, Alabama. It’s a fantastic organization that help new families get a hand up when preparing for new babies. I make blankets, purp pads, hats and even shoes

All the tile for me.
It would be kind of hilarious if the solution to the disappearing pocket piece becomes an Airtag sewn on like a curtain weight.
Losing and finding things is totally my jam. Then putting it somewhere safe and then not being able to find it again😂.
Just remember: piecing is a thing (and is very vintage)!
You can even get creative with it (complimentary color block strips, anyone?).
Not having quite enough fabric shouldn't stop you from giving your garment its best life.
Love seeing you use tailors tacks...an often forgotten aid
It was something my late mother taught me, so whenever she sewed, I’d sew them all. These days? I am NOT so good at it 😂
I never heard of it until this video then looked it up
I love tailor tacks i leaned them at around 12 and now 67 and havent found a better way to mark dart points
I enjoy watching the video and pretending that I will sew again. I am in the hospital with kidney issues at 67, sò I doubt it, but maybe. I need a sewing helper, but live alone and don't have one. The yoke looks PERFECT! And the skirt does magical things when you twirl!!
