  • Ever since she was five years old, Linda Charles knew there was something wrong with her. Her troubles start with frequent cavities and a dry mouth and progress with painful muscles and joints; dry, swollen eyes; fatigue; severe heartburn; and stomachaches. After being dismissed by many doctors, Linda eventually finds out that she has an autoimmune disorder called Sjorgen syndrome, which attacks her fluid-producing glands. Jennifer Gershman has been a healthy, active mother, when suddenly, she starts gaining weight every month. She tries exercising more, but along with her fluctuating weight, she gets edema, or swelling, in her legs, ankles, and feet. It turns out that Jennifer has amyloidosis, which causes her white blood cells to turn into abnormal proteins.
    Every year, millions of Americans fall prey to real-life medical mysteries ailments that go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. Their lives are thrown into turmoil as medical professionals struggle to understand their baffling conditions. Mystery diagnosis tells their stories. Through interviews and dramatic recreations, each medical mystery is recounted in vivid detail. Symptoms emerge, specialists are called in, but still the daily struggle continues. And then one day, because of a patients relentless pursuit of an accurate diagnosis, or a forward thinking doctor, the problem is solved and a true diagnosis given.
