    More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

      The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

      This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

    Most people don’t realise it, but the secret to retiring comfortably is finding a way to make returns while your money works for you. My dad, as I remember, started saving for retirement quite late, but I know he was making more than 10k returns from his investment monthly and it was completely passive.

      Not really. Approximately four years before to my dad's retirement, our family was introduced to a financial advisor. That was the catalyst for the transformation. I believe my retirement income would be on the right track because I've been using the same advisor.

    Hi Jean, I wish I had heard this lesson 20 or 30 years ago. I’ve spent my whole adult life caught in the rat race. I admire your courage as a couple to make these life changes. Here in Canada we are taught and encouraged to live to work, a process installed by big businesses many years ago. People like Tim Ferris and Robert Kiyosaki have helped to let a new generation understand there is another way. I give thier books to young people I think will be receptive to such a change. Thank you for sharing your experience, tips and concepts. Please keep it up. @@JeanVoronkova True, my FIRE story helped me discover what genuinely drives me personally. The main takeaway from my 4 years in early retirement was that you do not actually retire. You got to work either way, sometimes even more. Moreover, the allure of your interest that drove you to early retirement can fade away once it becomes your new job.
      I also discovered that you do not need to quit your job to be creative or do something fulfilling. An overall positive attitude is what is needed no matter what you are doing and opportunities come your way. Alternately, you do not become automatically happy once you retire early. Good and bad days are part of your life...you cannot eliminate them.

Life is easy and beautiful when you're young but when you pass the 60 you have still 30 years of life ahead and it can be long without money. "Most big, deeply satisfying accomplishments in life take at least five years to achieve. This can include building a business, cultivating a loving relationship, writing a book, getting in the best shape of your life, raising a family, and more. Five years is a long time. It is much slower than most of us would like. If you accept the reality of slow progress, you have every reason to take action today. If you resist the reality of slow progress, five years from now you'll simply be five years older and still looking for a shortcut." - James Clear

    Some of us are lucky enough to have choices in life. Your lifestyle might not be for everyone, some people would miss their job routines, the hustle, being around large families or friend groups. But it's important to be aware that we have other options...well, many people around the world don't, but that's another story. I've worked as a musician for most of my adult life, and generally speaking I've had less security and money than other people, but I enjoy what I do. My kids learned to be financially independent and are following their passions in life. I see a lot of comments about not being able to live the life you want with children, and having to "give their children the best possible opportunities" etc. But I don't believe that has anything to do with making big money. Most kids get a decent education in public schools, and they need parents who are present, loving and consistent, not rich.

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  Рік тому +2

      Hi, thank you so much for leaving this comment, I really appreciate your note and it resonates deeply with me. I admire your courage to pursue a life in music out of a place of passion, even more so that you have kids. Yes you're right, so many people just automatically write off the idea of pursuing a life that truly resonates with them "cos they have kids, duh" - but on many levels that's really just an excuse. Sure the financial threshold automatically gets higher, but its not unachievable, and like i keep repeating, many people around us here in Bali are here with their children. They just dont YT. And yes, I do think how their kids turn out is not just a matter of education but also how their parents are with them - it's especially clear here when things are so flexible wrt to their education and daily schedules and everything. I think your kids will benefit greatly from your outlook in life. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope more people read this.

    This "life" we are living is a temporary thing. We all "die," or cease to exist in this physical, material plane eventually. Once that time has come, then nothing here will matter anymore to us -- nothing at all . I would say to you that there is most certainly another, higher realm, and that what we are facing here, while challenging, is not something that ultimately "matters" in the way we think of it in our minds.

I do think taking your courage in your hands to go against the grain is one of the hardest parts of this journey we’re on perhaps, maybe more than amassing the money, but the good news is that it does get a lot easier down the road (when all the naysayers see that you didn’t just starve to death and keel over 😅) good luck!!

    • @kucheranraina9201
      @kucheranraina9201 2 роки тому +3

      You should look into first-time homebuyer programs in your area. Some allow you to only put 3% or 5% down. Also, some banks are now offering down payment assistance where a certain amount is loaned for the downpayment - then that amount is rolled back into the mortgage. Also, get a 30-year mortgage - but pay it like a 15-year mortgage. You can run an amortization schedule. Add an extra payment to your 30-year payment so that the payment equals what you would pay if the loan were only for 15 years. If there are months when you can't do the extra amount - just pay the 30-year amount.

      I think Quentin's advice here is pretty good. I did something like that after the bubble crashed, but it was a completely different situation and far more justifiable. Simply put, I had a couple of high interest second mortgages with lower balances. I used principal payments to get them down to a reasonable amount and then did the 0% balance transfer factoring in a payment rate I could afford. I'd note it did have a fee, but the fee was less than what I would have paid in interest over the remaining year. Did that a couple times to get them both paid off, but I also had savings.

    happy for your decision. A few things I want to call out is, it's not the seller fault to sell something and no one force anyone to buy. Just because something is a brandname and you have to buy. It is the buyer's mental state and how to control it. Second, if no one is working hard to develop technology like computer, smart phones or internet, how are we able to look at your videos online? Also, big decision is to have kids or not. If you decide to have kids, where do you want them to get education and be successful like you? Third is living somewhere, yes it could be more affordable, what about the local culture, neighbors, sanitation, safety and if you have emergency for medical needs, do you trust the local medical services? It's all nice to look at the cost of living alone, however, if you are living there long term, need to do more research. Of course, most people want to do something they enjoy and get paid + decent livestyle. How many will make it. Amen.

    You have impressive courage that many people don't, at least not people with Asian background. Having been born and bred in SEA in a middle-class setting myself, I understand the pressure and expectations from family, society, peers very well to have a 'proper job', but you have broken those norms and you've done so well. So, your journey means a little bit extra to me personally, too :).

      thank u, you've been so wonderfully supportive of my sharing about this rather personal aspect of my life. I do feel particularly strongly about the fact that i did this against all the typical asian values and assumptions too. I actually really want to get out there and yell from a loudspeaker like, hey boys n girls! if you don't like ur so called "nice life", its ok! u can step out of the mould and we're not all gonna just drop dead and die! There's so much fear and myths against breaking the Asian mould but personally i also know so many people who are just so unhappy in the mould and its sad. I am very proud generally of Asian ethos and Asian values n how we are generally as people. But i do think the entire group as a whole can do with more personal fulfilment and less "fear" stemming from conservative perspectives. And anyway, don't say "wasted money" lah.... after all, you did enjoy those life moments with the food and knick knacks! So its not all for naught per se haha u have nice memories! but u can make different value judgments from hereon out if u want something different for the end result i guess :)

    Watching this video, it's look like reading a book by luke burgis "wanting, the power of mimetic desire in everyday life". It explains why so many people dedicate their lives to achieving things that make them miserable. This might sound crazy, but an unseen force is pushing you towards empty and unfulfilling goals.

    Thank you for telling your story. I found it interesting. As far as education on how the rest of us can do it, I find it doesn't work when you say just work great paying jobs and do things smart. That's easier said than done. If you're smart enough to think of something that makes you money, that doesn't mean the person next to you can. That's where the rest of us suffer and why we can't do what you do.

      I can't believe I found this comment as this is my exact thought. I truly feel all of these advices are nearly worthless for people with health issues, physical and mental. You need money to make money. Ill people cannot work to make money. Mentally ill people, especially those with social anxiety disorder, struggle to even get a job. Job interviews are a nausea inducing and suffocating nightmare. If you do get the job you're fired a month later because you just stop functioning around people in the work environment. These things are beyond comprehension for normal people.

    Hi Jean!! Random person here! I watched the full video and I have to say, first thank you for sharing this kind of information, and second, I miss the first and main concept, at least obvious for me while I was seen your video. It gave me the feeling that the moment you met Vitaly, you was loving yourself much more and you were giving love to another person, so the more love, the more abundance, the more money you got. We don't give so many importance to love when we speak about money, but I think that's another variable in the formula. Lots of love for everyone!!❤
