  • I had some requests to do a video on how I make my stencils using vinyl and a vinyl cutter. My machine is the Silhouette Cameo second edition. This video is kinda long but I wanted to go into a lot of detail to help others out. Thanks for watching.

    Nice work.
    For the bleed through....
    After the stencil is in place, apply first coat with the background color.. any bleed through will be the same color, and it will seal the openings that caused the bleed..
    When dry, paint the stencil color.
    Edges will be perfectly crisp.

    Spray a coat of clear over the stencil before painting the white, let it dry, then paint the white, it should stop the bleeding.

      I was thinking a heat gun would get those edges to flatten, but then the vinyl would be a bitch to remove

    Looks good brother..Just a quicka tip, use modge podge over the area you are gonna paint first, this will help with the bled through..

    Weeding was always so nice to me. I loved it. I got very fast. my class in graphic design had a big vinyl cutter and we were constantly making things for the school and other businesses.

    Nice flag. After you put your stencil down, give a quick spray with clear. It will seal the edges, then come back with your white. I do this all the time and I don't get the bleed on the edges.

    Great job, if you put a coat of poly on the decal before you paint, it will help seal your edges and minimize the amount of bleed. I really like your work!

    great video. TIP: when you lay down the stencil. Put a layer of Gesso on, when it dries paint on that and your edges wont bleed.

    best thing to do with vinyl, yes let gravity help, but be coming in behind with your credit card or something and press as you go. Gently, you dont want to stretch it. But that will help you make sure nothing warps as you go and you wont get bubbles under the surface of the vinyl that you'll then have to work out, which might cause stretching and some warping. I love how that turned out. Awesome video. Im really wanting to get into wood working and im still trying to figure out wood and what kind I should use for beginner stuff xD but its cool to watch others who have been in it longer do some pretty amazing things.

    Could’ve used a white acrylic spray paint (Montana or ironlak) instead of dabbing the paint to avoid bleeding and save time retouching them :)

    Great job.. A tip that I found when painting on stained wood, is once I put down my stencil, I put down another coat of poly or modge podge first then I paint my white. That will stop the bleed though.. Get video

    there are stencil films that I use Orocal 813 and Greenstar Stencil Mask..I seal my boards with Kilz clear primer...the stencil mask works a lot better that what you are using...you can also use mod poge in your stencil befor you paint your cut outs. this helps from bleeding...I use the stencil and spray the paint, does a great job.

    Pro Tip: Try using the "hinge" method to apply your stencil - it will be much better. Also, the "ripples" you get in the transfer tape, can cause fine details to be distorted when applying your stencil... so take a little more time when applying your application tape to the stencil to prevent those "ripples".

    if I could offer some help here. you can use the felt squeegie on the piece when you pull the backing off. instead of the paper towel. You will have better luck when pulling the tape. Also after the tape is off you can also use your felt to push everything down with.

      city farm life find an image you like, save it to your desktop. Then open file from the cameo and pull it from the desktop. Then all you got to do it use the tracing tool and trace out the image. If that doesn’t help, I’ll do a video and post just that one. It should actually be a short video lol

    • @PoposWoodworks
      @PoposWoodworks  5 років тому

      Dro Kilo I don’t see why you couldn’t do multiple layers as long as the previous layers are dry before adding another stencil. The only kickback I can think of is, if you place a stencil over your previous painted section...once you remove the decal/stencil will the tackiness from the decal remove the painted section you just did.

    • @Hscleaners
      @Hscleaners 5 років тому

      @@PoposWoodworks I see what you are saying. Im just so tired of cutting stencils by hand they are so time consuming. I love the art but wow it almost takes me half a day to a whole day of cutting and on top of that i can only use the stencils so many times before i have to throw them away. And i usually dont like to go through the cutting process again onless its a new picture or design. Im pretty sure you can relate. So im just trying to find a machine that can help me out and from your video it looks like i found a winner. I will just have to do a little more research with what you just said but thank you again. And your flag is awesome great work
