As awesome as they are, all the added leverage is going to be a problem if your offroad adventures have occasionally resulted in broken driveline parts. Portals are definitely a mod the overlander who has gotten stuck in mud/snow many times, but never broken an axle or tie rod, and want to do deeper. Portals are likely not going to end well for offroaders who like to test their vehicle over crazy obstacles just because its there and bring a pile of spare driveline parts because they often break something. I may be getting soft in my old age and may be more in the overlander category now. It will just be a matter of convincing myself portals will make snow wheeling 20k worth of more fun.
@@mtnyotas The gear reduction only reduces load on your spinning parts. Any loads going into the tire up, front/back, left/right are going amplified by the increased leverages. It's all likely a moot point as 99.9% of offroaders are very casual and do their best to avoid situations that may break anything. The guys that go out with the mission to push things until they break aren't likely to be dropping 20k on portals.
Hopefully a cast version becomes available for better affordability. Turning radius suffers & heims transfer vibrations and felt bump steer but 40’s may absorb crappy pavement better
I’ve been curious about which would be the most removable/back to stock of the 2 options. I know the 74Weld requires a bit of modification to bolt up. While I love the idea of putting portals on the Trailhunter I have coming, jumping and climbing up that high all day on trails to get footage seems like it would really suck 😂.
Both would be about equally the same to revert back to stock... maybe a SLIGHT edge to 74Weld because the Werewolf brackets get welded to the rear axle.
Portals need to become more mainstream and more affordable. The problem is that Black Rock, Vanguard, and State Street are holding our economy in a three-way monopoly. There's no reason for companies to compete when they're all sharing the same controlling shareholders. It doesn't make sense to compete against yourself. This is why nearly everything is getting more expensive.
You can indeed, but it'll cost a little more because we'd have to get some custom axle shafts for you from CVJ. Email us info@mountainyotas.com if you're serious about it!
I don't understand why portal isn't used much more on trucks. Often you see a truck on big tires that you think has a lot of ground clearance but looking underneath there's always something that interferes, like differential or lower shock mount...
2 inches of extra tire height will only gain you a half inch to 1 inch of clearance at the pumpkin . Yep 4 inch lift kit and 36 inch tall tires gets an additional 2 inches at the pumpkin . probably an inch and a half because tire manufactures can't read a tape . There are a few reasons nobody wants them . This doesn't apply to independent suspensions . But everything works as a lever .On strait axles That is some serious leverage . Mas times velocity equals momentum . Multiply that by many hundreds of times , only god can comprehend the twisting forces multiplied when a portal is added to a strait front axle . Twisted axle tubes , busted frames , sheared king pins . A traction bar would have to be at least on the same plane as the king pin . Then you lost all advantage farmall b has ten horsepower and the flange to bolt its geared final drive is larger that the outer C on a 5 ton rockwell
I want to get them w/37's but concerned about increased higher center of gravity. I don't know the fj would feel on off camber trails like hells revenge
I'd go with 74Weld (3.6" lift from the portals) and keep stock height on the suspension itself. The additional width from the portals helps a lot with stability, it'd be perfect and well planted with 37s. Happy to help you out anytime!

What front bumper is that?? Looks clean aF
Thanks, It's a Lil B's Fab bumper.
DOES IT WORK ON A SAND DUNES ????
You got the fourth set from the manufacturer WOW! That’s incredible we are all impressed that it makes your hat you wear more valuable.
It makes me qualified to speak on the subject. Thanks for your valuable input, though.
Me watching this video wanting to buy some portals and I dont even own a truck.
Hahahaha awesome!
With so many pistons in one caliper do they wear even..
Tacoma big truck ? So what is my 83 suburban ?
would love portal axles on a ram truck. Yours look awesome.
Holy sht, that thing is a monster!
It's really quite the opposite of what you're describing... it's a lot friendlier on the drivetrain because the gear reduction occurs at the hub.
Werewolf portals are cast and they're around $5k less than 74Weld, but 74Weld is worth every penny... we'll be diving into why soon.
I think I'll stick to Bilstein 5100s,
and SPC upper control arms!
Question, Toyota or Ford Raptors?
I’m convinced I would love to do this to my taco. Can I get portals on my 2006 2nd gen taco?
Maybe not available where you are but definitely been available for 10 years or more elsewhere in the world !
Show me where someone was producing portals for Tacomas prior to 2023....
I learned something new! Thank you
What kind of roof rack are you running? Thank you.
Sherpa Equipment Co
Oh... Maybe I should put Portal's on the Prius! 👍😁
Please do! lol
@@mtnyotas .. what about front and rear differential regearing for mountain/ i70 Colorado driving? Is regearing required?
Kkkk, A Infiniti 4x4 shop. Yeah I’m lifting my 2011 QX56 into a pre runner, the
Infinite Mountain shop
love these small trucks
Tiny!
I have Hilux AT37 KUN26L 2015 3.0D4D; will this have such a kit as well?
Reach out to Werewolf Tech, they should be able to get you something!

I drive a 2015 subaru xv crosstrek with a 2” lift. I would LOVE to slap portals on my subie. Shit. I only drive 1-3 miles a day hahaha
