I do appreciate people finally putting full EQs on dirt pedals nowadays. I wasted too much of my younger years trying to get good sounds from tone knob overdrives.
@@dannyllerenatv8635 I’ve had experience with them all. No tone knob can fix the truncated bass in a tube screamer type pedal. Tilt controls are slightly better, but I don’t like that if you want to boost one frequency, the other gets cut. Nothing beats a full set of EQ controls.
@@darwinsaye It can be very hit or miss. Usually, a 3 band EQ is ideal and a TS can also sound and behave better if boosted by another pedal such as a BB which has more low end to it.

The Triumph Punch mode is based on the Boss SD-1, and as mentioned in the video, that Mids control makes it super versatile. A really great pedal, and well worth the asking price.
I agree, great sounding pedals. I love the clean and clear artwork - no goofy names for controls, no guesswork. The sound is pretty awesome as well, and that Mid control is key. Thanks for doing this , Josh.
Just picked up the triumph. You really can get three type of pedals out of it. Crank the mids for a screamer type, back the mids off for a blues breaker type, and then you have the toggle switch which is a whole other thing. It’s great. It also stacks well with other drives.
Excellent video Josh and great performance! The key with The Wampler pedals are in the powerful 3 band EQ section. Thanks for bringing some attention to A-GoGo. Sort of a widely forgotten record from the 90's, mostly remembered by beatniks. One of the best Beach vacation listens ever. At the time this record was pretty popular I had a weekly bar gig at an Italian restaurant on Oregon highway 35, which I drove to in a jeep, usually with "Jeep on 35" cranked.

Leo Fender left MusicMan but stayed with CLF to produce instruments for G&L in 1979. The truth though is that up to at least 1982 his instruments were still being used and supported by Grover Jacksons team.
Just 3 days ago I posted short/TikTok on a topic that Triumph is better Bad Monkey :) I bought both pedals in last 2 weeks, first Triumph and immediately after that Phenom and they are just fantastic, love both. It's so nice of JHS to feature this little, unknown, very niche Wompler brand. Nice pedal, too; I'm sure they'll go places and perhaps, maybe, one day reach JHS heights.
Josh, that was some nice Van Halen-ish playing on the Phenom. You got some shred in you 🙂🎸🤘🏼 And I suppose the bottom line in all this is that there are a lot of good overdrive and distortion pedals at different price points. Right now I’m using the Blues Driver into the Morning Glory into the Duke of Tone into a Tumnus. Works great for what I need at this point in my guitar playing life.
If anyone ever has the chance to play the Wampler Sovereign, it is one of the best sounding mid-hih gain pedals I've ever heard. It's goes for about 85 on the used market.
pedals like this really only can shine in a age like today, where we have hugely influencial and knowlegable guys on youtube explaining and demonstrating it to us. I am pretty convinced back before guitar youtube was a thing, pedals that could do a lot were doomed to wrong application and or expectations so that what stick out and got very popular were kinda one-trick-ponies that delievered everytime and people did not have to spent time to get to know it, ie tubescreamer boost. pedals like the BOSS HM-2 or even Metal Zone kinda fall into this territory: they can do a hell of a lot with hugely powerful EQs but because of that are easy to mess up and or just sound very different from what you actually want from them (with the HM2 being a special case because of its meme status after being picked up by the swedish death metal scenne). a OD like this, that can do so so many things, probably would also fal into that category because it hasn't got the ONE trick that makes people grab for it. the tc electronic dark matter comes to mind: does everything preeetty well, did not sell with its original price tag and was slashed to half the price, still around today but never really gained recognition for anything specifically. We kinda get the same thing with some of these chinese clone pedals when people are not aware of the circut thats being cloned yet and shit on the pedal because it doesn't sound like what they expected - the joyo "extreme distortion" - being a OCD clone for an example.
