I'm one of many, many people who have been uncomfortable around spiders but have used UA-cam content to desensitise. Channels like this, which educate and show the breathtaking beauty of these misunderstood species, are gold. Thanks.

Best thing to do with tarantulas is let them live in their natural environment. Appreciate them for their uniqueness, even their beauty, and let them live the way *they* want to live.

Hi. In 2003, I actually discovered a new species in Thailand which was very similar, if not identical to Ornithoctonus aureotibialis. The main difference was that this new species is what is termed a ‘dwarf species’. The taxonomy was undertaken by Volker Von Wirth. He named it Ornithoctonus sp. ‘Koh Samui’ as that was where I discovered it.

Poecilotheria metallica would of been an excellent choice too. Just saying, hunting and Deforestation has pushed this species hard. I have one atm a juvenile female and I'm working on breeding her. One Dat hopefully people like myself are asked to reintroduce them into the wild. Honestly looking for your picks now on the market just for this reason 🤔

    Hi Martin.Once again superb videos.
The information you offer us,the epic quality of your videos, your knowledge coupled with a really nice way of putting things is much appreciated.
Your channel fills a void for many of us all over.
I'd say most of us will never be able to travel to Southeast Asia,or South America,or Indonesia on a safari like trip to see these animals in their environments.
My question for you is while A. seemanni and its other genus members find roadside embankment convenient, there has to be many more living in that tropical forest habitat....no?
On a broader scale.....stay with me on this.....is it a bit limiting for ALL of us to assume many of these tarantulas are so specialized they cannot adapt to less than ideal living conditions?
I have not yet entered the "T" hobby yet so granted I have no practical experience.
However,I have caught, kept, and bred snakes since I was 10 years old.
I had the boas, pythons, and many snakes found here in the States along with turtles, frogs, toads.
I caught spiders at a very early age just not tarantulas.
    I've watched your videos,Tom Morans,Richard Stewarts,Morita videos too.
What I see is very varied temperatures, rain bordering on monsoons and floodings, extreme humidity, extreme dry,and rapidly changing temp drops in the desert.
    Yet......these tarantulas,snakes,etc.......survive.
Is it possible we all are not giving these animals enough credit for surviving unstable habitats.
I can't speak for SE Asia,Africa,Indonesia,Malaysia but in Central and South America you have rainy seasons, dry seasons, and even in any given country both conditions in the upper quarter and/or southern quarter.
Now,taken all that in.......I can see if a person takes a tarantula OUT of its environment no matter which country and now attempts to house it inside,of course you'd want to duplicate its surroundings, BUT what about captive raised right from the egg?
That is a FAR different animal altogether is it not?
This animal has not seen its homeland,so who's to say it should be kept just like where it came from?
Clearly,in nature, God,in His infinite wisdom, gave these animals the ability to adapt and survive, otherwise they'd be extinct.
As an example,I see the guys on You Tube putting vermiculite, coconut fiber, peat moss and mixes of the three into their tarantulas cages....right?
None of these are "natural" to a tarantula.
Yet,how many complaints have I heard about mushrooms and mold etc from them all with these
    products?
    Tons !!!!!
What's wrong with simple topsoil found in a forest providing there is no insect spraying going on in the area?
I haven't seen peat moss, coconut fiber or vermiculite on ANY of your videos across the world.
I saw hard clay type soil, topsoil, and a mix of sandy and topsoil on your trips abroad.
So my question is this, are we overthinking the care?
What's good for a wild caught specimen, may not be good for a egg raised captive specimen.
    No?
I hope I was able to come across well.
Good job and keep up the work.

Just breaks my heart. I would love to breed and see if it would be possible to re-introduce the captives into the wild. It is just a shame that most of these places aren't doing anything to help keep their homes there in the first place. So until then, I just hope we can keep breeding in captivity for preservation.

What is the difference between old world and new world tarantulas?

    • @dorabrooks76
      @dorabrooks76 3 роки тому +2

The two biggest differences I can easily explain are where they are from, and whether they have urticating hairs or not.
      1. New worlds are from North, Central, and South America; old worlds come from anywhere else.
      2. New worlds *generally* have urticating hairs and less potent venom, whereas old world Ts _do not_ have urticating hairs and have more potent venom. There are exceptions, of course, but this holds true for the majority.
      Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hi Martin. Endangered? What data are available that support this classification? Endangered species list do not work at all if one considers all the habitats being constantly polluted and devasted by local population and international corporations for many years now. CITES and other similar lists therefore cannot work because they do not address there real underlying causes. But of course, on the surface it seems to the normal people that officials really care. Do they really care? Or do they want us to believe they really care?
