When I saw my handyman hook my refrigerator up to a pencil, at first I was skeptical, but then he referred me to this video and I've been assured that he's a professional after all.
You misunderstand, the pencil isn't being used to transfer charge. The graphite is a good resistor, so they're using it to generate heat to use a soldering iron. Actually a pretty cool trick for if you're lacking the actual tool.
That's a great way to fry your usb adapter, Shorting the leads to make that soldering iron tip heat up requires a ton of current. Even on the lower power end, a soldering iron would require 20W to be dissipated. From a 5 volt usb supply that would mean 4 amps of current is required, when most usb adapters are rated between 1 and 3 amps. This is disregarding power losses throughout the length of the tip and contact resistances at the terminals.

Or a small Shepard's hook of like t-grid wire, chucked up in the chuck. You don't have to chuck and unchuck. You just spin, pull off, move to next set.

Lol exactly
Always wanted half a Coke bottle
Well now at last you know how to get one, I hope you are very happy. 😂
is this real bro?
Finally, I can now join the A Team and use my skills as a CV
I think a dead short to make the soldering iron would kill that charger in 2 seconds.
$5.50 for a soldering iron at harbor freight, less elsewhere I'd bet.
@@billp4 I know. I'm laughing at a lot of these comments. I'm sure these videos are popular in penitenturies
You made me jobless as handyman !!!
did i just see you turn a lighter into a mini hydrogen fuel cell
I feel like I’ve just discovered a secret club of DIY experts. Great hacks!
My dad is a handyman and I asked him how he feels now everyone knows?
He hasn't been able to get out of bed for the last fortnight.
I cant tell you how many times I've tried the bottle string thing and never got it to work one time
To ensure you get success....
Use extremely cold water for immersing the bottle after using the string burn method.
It is actually the extreme difference in temperature that causes the glass to contract in the cold.
@@alap1983 I understand the physics I did several methods I just cant get it to work
I suggest getting another hobby.
@@paulf.8651 😂
I made it to 3:43 before I decided to hang myself. Until this video, I was stable and happy. Goodbye cruel world....
No… no… what?
This is the type handyman that's coming back and cutting all the Copper out if your new house at 230 am
Wondering how many of those lighters it would take to run a car? 😂 Or how big it would need to be to run a car on water and baking soda 🤔
People have done it. kinda XD running a normal car on hydrogen.
Wonderful! There are so many ideas, and they're all realized.
A new discovery!
Yo that pencil soldering iron is on some Tony Stark levels brah.
The lighter hack was too much effort for too little worth..........but, the soldering pencil was very cool and interesting; provided u find a powerful enough source of current for it.
Anyways ur videos are very entertaining and informative. Keep it up 👍
it won't last it's too bulky the graphite will melt and/or break as the slightest torque.. and it's 5 volts at no more than 2 amps. no way that'll get up to 450 to melt 40/60
@@chuckholmes2075 How does this melt graphite? Graphite doesn't melt at atmospheric pressure, is sublimates at 6254 degrees F. (3457 C)
Very sharp - I particularly like the low voltage solder iron that you built - probably a bit fragile in that format, but very cool. Thanks for sharing… 👍😃
Love the soldering iron great idea but you must get the wires round the right way to make it work.😊
That's amazing. The soldering Iron from a leaded pencil. Amazing channel and great "tips"
The lighter is cool and all, but that gas is a mixture of both hydrogen and oxygen so it could potentially blow up in your hand.
What, you think that cheap lighter doesn't have a back-flow arrester?
You spend more money to refill that lighter with your inefficient "trick" that only works 1 time, than just buying a refillable one with a brutane can to refill it a dozen of times
I just pay my handyman to go buy me a new one.
You got every handyman here to California fuming with this video. They don't know what they're gonna do now that all these secrets are out. 😱😱
The soldering iron was amazing! I didn't suspect at all that's where you were going with all that, I may actually try that one myself! Thanks!!!
This is handyman john wick. He soldered using an effin pencil... AN EFFIN PENCIL!
Yeah that one was pretty cool.
That last one can't be real. No way a 5V usb can melt solder.
Even if it did work, there's no way I would use a USB switch mode power supply to do it. That's got instant cut-out or small electrical fire written all over it.
This art attack for old people. Love it!
Art attack?
@@starrystarrynight9822 check it on Wikipedia. Was a Kid show: Art Attack is a British children's television programme revolving around art, originally hosted by Neil Buchanan on CITV from 1990 to 2007, and subsequently hosted by Lloyd Warbey on Disney Junior from 2012 to 2015.
(Note the final few seconds):
A blob of solder rests on TOP of the connection-the mark of a TRUE "handyman"!
That's what you get when you hire a handyman's. You don't get the skill or experience of an electrician, plumber, or carpenter - you get someone who is a hack at all sorts of things.
Ok I get what you did with the lighter! You made an cathode and an electrode , and by putting the 9 volt battery on it you made hydrogen and oxygen! Very nice! That sir was snazzy!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@onederment And you can blow off your fingers doing that sort of thing
