My jaw dropped with the comparison vs the NECA April! I've been hunting that one for some time now to no avail. And for NECA to exclude the normal head in the Cat from Channel 6 News 4-pack is maddening. This Super7 April blows the NECA April away. Wow, the head really is way too oversized. I'm loving this Super7 April with the Toon head!

NECA usually nails it when it comes to show accuracy with their figures. But I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. That April figure needs to be remade. The Super 7 Ultimates April on the other hand looks great. While it's meant to recreate the vintage toy look, she does capture a good essence of the classic cartoon April in my eyes. I'll be picking her up soon. But it NECA doesn't redo April...then I guess I'll add her. Gonna need her to complete my 1987 TMNT collection.
The shiny/glossy skin is a dealbreaker for me. It cheapens the look, even if they're trying to be faithful to the vintage toy. Still, for those interested, you can throw a Flat/Matte topcoat on it. I use this for model kits, but it works wonders for Marvel Legends and McFarlane figures.
She looks like a inflatable doll, I don't like how shinny she looks, and that they didn't draw a couple lines on the suit and at least the collar bone. I preordered her and I will display her, but it doesn't look like I will enjoy her as much as the rest of the line sadly. Great review, thanks.
This is the only TMNT Ultimate figure that's been disappointing so far. I'm definitely passing on this one, though the display will seem lacking without an April O'Neil figure. Hopefully they re-release her with a new deco in a future wave.
I was thinking the same thing. This was the last one I held off on. I had to get her to complete the set though. She is only $39.99 on Amazon right now.
I kind of get why people are so against the shininess of the figure, but I think that's directly influenced by the vintage figure. I always remember April in the vintage line having a sheen to it that wasn't present in other figures, so it's amazing Super7 is so dedicated to modernizing the original line.
She really looks like a 10$ figure with that glossy finish...certainly not the 50+ they are asking nowadays. The quality control with Super7 is just so bad, stuff like this should not ever happen if you are making "premium" collectibles.
To fix the too shiny skin you can try Mr. Super Clear UV Flat Spray, from Amazon. The guys from Out Of The Basement did the test on the newest General Lando figure from Black Series and works really well. Good review !!
Lack of matte finish aside, I quite dig the look of this figure overall. I only wish Brian Flynn wasn’t so dead set against to the look (and the cost) of double jointed knees.
This figure should never have been $55! It honestly looks so utterly cheap! Figures like this will ultimately see me quit this line in the long run and put me off ordering any other Ultimates lines from Super7!

I preordered her only a few months ago when Super7 disclosed they were making improvements, and I agree with you she's much better but at the same time there's quite some problems. I think I will try to improve on her painting a bit, not something I am eager to try on an expensive figure because I haveI just done it a couple of times. I could understand her suit being shiny but her skin is just too much, it looks like she's got Vaseline on 😑. I am disappointed with how little she can articulate also, I get that's not Super7 priority but she's way more static than the turtles, they have to implement some sort of torso articulation other than the basic hip twist. And legs, knees and elbows need a bit more range. Bryan Flinn needs to compromise a bit on us with this, I know he favours aesthetic first but it just needs more range, otherwise a lot of people are going to drop the line after completing the core team...
Man, as much as I love the Neca line, that Neca April is so weirdly out of proportion. Her small upper torso and huge head just really pull her down. Hopefully the Neca ultimate April just isn’t a head swap. They need to redo a little more.
Well, the only April figure we're gonna get any time soon is " The Catwoman from channel 6" box set. And as you know, there's no alternate heads or hands (human hands) for this version. Randy made up a lame excuse with a difference in the skin tone, which wouldn't match the whole figure (which is ridiculous, considering the fact that the color of April's skin didn't changed in that episode, so inventing the new pallete was a fail from the beginning). It might've seems that Neca is doing everything they can to f*ck up one of the most important characters of the franchise and 90's era as well.

The head on the cat figure actually looks a lot better or more in proportion with the body, but I think they need to resculpt her upper torso. Her shoulders are way too squished together making it looking like her rib cage is collapsing upon itself.
To be honest when you go back and forth between the promo image and what was delivered I think the end result was leagues better from what was initially shown. I bet you hands down that this by far was their hardest figure to translate or at least had the hardest decisions to be made on. You can argue that there's not enough matte finish but the promo pictures seemed to incorporate that and it just didn't translate well in my opinion. She actually reminds me more of the Orange Yellow Press vintage figure with a look more akind to what she looked like in the Arcade games. What was delivered was ultimately the best they could do with such a minimal figure.
Love the Super7 line, but I can not justify the asking price on this one. Had she come with 2 mousers, or something a bit more compelling they would have easily pulled "on the fence" folks like me well over to the purchase side.
I think its the waxy look is bumming people out on this figure. hopefully they may fix this as they did do that slight paint alternate wave 1 they could do something similar with April. I have mind paid for just waiting to ship it . it would been hilarious if they added a gagged head sculpt like the Dreamex tmnt 1/6th figure came with (dunno if that was released in the end or not) I will say I do like the look over the Neca
The truth is that Super Seven make good molds with the turtles and the rest of the characters, but with April O'neil mmmmm it does not convince me, I think they could have solved the joints of the crotches better, maybe if I bought it, good video 👏🏻🇦🇷
Given the choice between this and NECA, my money's on this. I had high hopes for NECA, but the head sculpt was a real let down. This one seems pretty good. I was rather discouraged at first given the marketed photos, but I like that they gave use 3 different alternate heads to work with. So that's really cool. And the fact it's mimicking the old Kenner figures is a nice touch. Yeah, great review on this, I'll probably pick this one up once it hopefully hits our Hobby Shops here in the Philippines.
@serick73 problem is that you don’t really know what you’re getting until you have them in hand. Changes were made for this wave, but there were no solid updates between the time preorders went live to when people got them in hand.
The "likeness" being odd I can understand when looking at the figure they're emulating. But for pretty much all the accessories to be duds when the whole point is to update the og line? Big no from me. Teeny Tiny tripod and briefcase that breaks if you open it... what's the point? Where exactly is the "update"?
I got my set in yesterday. I love them all but I’m on the fence with April. She’s the only one I haven’t opened completely. I can see her in her package but she looks funky with the pinkish skin. The skin is very off putting. I will probably end up opening her but I’m not fully committed yet. Looks like a porcelain doll to me. But wait for his Rocksteady review. Rocksteady is a beast. Very happy with him. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of peg holes in the feet for all the figures in this series. Well I don’t know if April has them but the other 3 don’t. Some of the other figures from other series did and I like peg holes to stand the top heavy ones for sure.
Maaan, this figure is such a letdown. I'll admit she wasn't the reason I wanted the wave, so it's not like, a deal killer, but they really didn't do a very good job on her. Super7's gotta tone down that shine for future releases.

That OG April is the stuff of nightmares. S7 >> NECA figures. The shine looks similar to the OG release. I don't mind it. Like you said, it looks better in person.

This was a weird one because the original head sculpt they showed with this figure was terrible. I saw an interview with Brian and he reassured that that was just a sample and they were giving us 3 new and improved heads. I'm still disappointed in how all three of these turned out. Super 7 Wave 3 Mikey- Par for the course. Same shell as other turtles and different colors. Yawn. Rocksteady- Awesome, easily the best of the Wave but weapons are to small. April- Hot garbage. Metalhead- No Vac metal and accessories are not painted. Even with inferior articulation the vintage toy is superior. Overall wave 3 sucks outside Rocksteady. Up your game Super 7. Turtles fans are paying lots of money and have to wait un godly amounts of time to receive these things. Here's hoping that a Skateboarding Lizard, a walking trash pile. a vigilante, and a terrapin genius can come out better than this mediocre wave.
That default head matches up with the second version of the vintage figure. Not sure if you are aware that Playmates revised the vintage figure. I actually think this might be the best female figure that Super7 has done. They are getting better.

Yeah, April was kind of underwhelming compared to the rest of the wave--this is one that I would have preferred the Horseman take a bit more liberty with and sculpt her torso a little more realistically. It feels too close to the toyetic proportions of the original. But I'm mostly in this line for the big chonky freaks, and Rocksteady is perfection! Exactly what I was hoping for! Metalhead, too, though I wish his gray finish was a bit flatter. Still, this continues to be my favorite toy line right now! I already can't wait for wave 4! And with Slash showing up in wave 5 of the ReAction line, I'm very optimistic he'll finally join Ultimates in wave 6!
the face is better than the preview but the shininess and lack of paint really makes it look like a cheap toy (wich this is not), even compared to stuff like female legends or masteverse she really looks cheap.
I put her next to the S.H. Figuarts Turtles, and bonkers does she look great! Imo, the first real decent April action figure we have!

This isn’t an ultimates figure. No way. This should come on a vintage card for $14.99, I don’t see anything that jumps out as “2021 premium figure”

The prototype looks way better than this. It wasn't glossy and it looked like a $50 figure.

It really does look better in person. When you take it out of direct light, you can make out the details better .
