Thankyou Chris as always your wisdom is amazing I just took a photo using my 50mm lens but while thats not different what was different is I took your advice and put a tree in the corner of the photograph of my sunset .. and OH WOW it was AMAZING wish I could post it here to show you

I have watched hundreds of videos on photography and a significant portion on composition. And while I've heard most of the rules explained before, I have never found so much common sense illustration and explanation as in this video. I will watch this one many times and make notes for adding them to my own images. Thanks for such a well-done bit of education.
I'm planning to watch all photography basic videos just to get the gist of it and plan on revisiting and taking notes down. These videos are too good to not watch it again.
Oh yes, those illustrations on the issues mentioned are damn spot on. And that shot of the see and the sky with beautiful blues to the left and purples to the right made me rethink what beauty is. I’m wiping the saliva out from my floor but it’s still dripping.
Indeed!! I actually stopped the video to grab my small composition book (no pun intended) from my camera backpack, re-started the video, watched it in its entirety, then watched it again and took notes.
I've been so broke for years and I've had a void of creativity in my life, I finally saved up enough money for a decent camera and I'm diving headfirst into photography and your videos have got me so pumped!
I love how you show an example of what you are talking about so that we can see the differences that each rule makes. It really puts it into perspective.
I know you have plenty of followers and a saturated field of thanks, but I just wanted to express my own gratitude. There are literally thousands of videos and sites out there for advice, tips and techniques, but I very often find your methods and delivery the most understandable. I have just bought my first DSLR last week and have been studying your videos since, and I have to say, I have become even more drawn in and curious about photography. I know we all have something to learn, no matter how long we’ve been studying something. But your prospective towards the beginner, whilst applying subliminal higher techniques and methods for amateurs is fantastic. Thank you Chris.
Hey Sean! Thanks so much for taking the time to write and say how much you're getting out of the videos =) It's really rewarding to hear. Keep up your interest and practice!
Sir i have to say that you belong in those very few photographers, who actually help a lot, and not just joking around with like the most basic things you have to know, thanks a lot❤
Im 51, wish i saw your videos 20 years ago. very informative, good pace and excellent delivery. Going to New York soon taking my new found knowledge with me. 👍
You're so cool. Finally I could organize all the info I have gathered from many other sources without knowing what to do with it. It's just perfect how you explain!
I have read and watched many, many tutorials on composition. This one is by far the best. Your way of explaining the points and the examples you provide are outstanding! I have subscribed now to your channel and look forward to watching more of your work. Thank you!
Good on you Mary! =) I appreciate it - it helps make it worthwhile =) You might also find the course booklet that goes with the video series handy too (either the physical book, or the iBook, both available on chrisbrayphotography.com/) along with my summary clip-cards (or app!). Thanks very much for your support, have a great week & keep practicing! Maybe we can meet one day if you join one of my photo tours around the world? =)
You are the best instructor. I have learned more in just one class than past 3 years trying figure out how things work.the way you simply explain and all the animations are amazing. Also you explain so simply so everyone can understand, not everyone is a pro . So thank you for simplifying and explain so clearly. Awesome videos .i have recommended these to all of student on my photography class.
Thanks so much Devin! =) I hope your students love them too! Please do tell your students to grab a copy of the course booklet (or ibook, or clip-cards!) to help me keep these videos free if you can! =) Thanks again and have fun practicing & teaching!
Very effective communicator, informative and technical and love the use of examples to aid the explanations. Already know I'm going to take pictures due this 10 part course. Will seek to watch a couple daily till I'm confident and experienced more within the field. Will aim to purchase the reminder cards on the app as well. Keep it up Chris, good man. Best Composition videos hands down!!!
LOL - thanks Jennifer! =) There's a whole lot more in the set which are already on my website, but I have so far put 1-7 online here for free, #8 is coming in 1 day... enjoy! Please if you can, help me get some new subscribers by sharing this video! =)
@@ChrisBrayPhotography sure Chris I will do!! I have already bought all the videos and have devoured them all and watched them over and over! I'll share happily!!!
Thank you SO much! This was amazing and so helpful. I’m definitely a complete amateur but, your assists are some of exactly what I’ve been looking for - thorough and so easy to understand, and your photos are stunning; I so appreciate this!
I’ve spent lots of time reading books and watching other photography videos to take my skills to the next level. This video is, by far, the most useful one I’ve seen on here. You’re a good instructor! Thank you for sharing your gift with others. I watched this video twice in a row to really cement this rich content into my brain.
Thank you very much. I found your videos so easy to understand and apply than any other i have seen so far. I am keeping notes and learning from you. Thank you very very much.
Seriously, the technic of focusing after half press and moving is the actual way to get the subject into the rule of thirds. Gosh!! Have been doing wrong all this time and missed many beautiful collections. Such a small tip also has great significance. You have enlightened me 😲
Im watching the all 10 clips of the series and Im learning a lot! I wish I would have done it sooner! anyway I have a question: if my photography is all about landscape and nature, what lens would you reccomend if I want to upgrade my kit lens (I have an ancient Canon 1000D)
Fantastic video! Concise rules with example shots explaining the rules. I learned a lot. No ads to break your concentration. Excellent instructor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Don’t normally comment but your good your photos speak volumes and I could listen to you all day you make sense cheers look forward to you next vid cheers
Excellent.! Thank you so much budy :) Best video in the youtube about composition. Love the way that all rules are presented with sample images. Makes it easy to remember and find how pleasing it is. I've started practicing the better composition and found your video more informative and helpful.
Great vid. Just the right length and informative., and inspiring. You could teach people how to make UA-cam vids, let alone about photography. I already learnt from another photographer about shooting vertically. Every shot I take, I take horizontally and vertically. It’s like muscle memory now. In fact I’d forget to tell anyone else to do this, as I do it automatically and hardly realise I’m doing it. I’m glad you mentioned this great tip. When it comes to post processing, I’ve used tons of vertical shots. And to think I would never have gotten those shots had I just shot horizontally. Going to check out your other vids. Thanks.
This series of videos you did here are by far far most useful videos on photography I have found on UA-cam. Learned so much watching it. Thank you for sharing the knowledge for free!
Hi Chris, great video, with excellent examples of composition showing before & after you make an adjustment. This weekend will be out and trying to put your advice into practise. Many thanks Mark

I might've commented before, but revisiting the video, the simple yet thorough way you explain things is way better than what we see around.
I confess I liked the first blue starfish photo better than the second.
I agree although I think it could have been composed differently to make it better, but the second was too cropped
But there also were some other distracting elements than the yellow shirt ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
the first giraffe one too. it looks amazing centered
