On pedal names earlier...a Looper called "Groundhog Day"?
It's hilarious that Mick's troll voice has an American accent! LOL!
We need a Proco Rat show! Exploring the pedal and modern variations/clones etc.
Yes!
One for all the “Rat Nutters” as Graham Coxon would put it! 😁
im now officially an ehx Flatiron Fuzz nutter
Hell yes!!!
100 thumbs up
Dan, Mick - You should contact Tim Pierce. He's been using volume pedals for 30 years for his recording sessions. If memory serves, I believe he actually uses 2 - in before the pedals and one after. He has referenced the volume pedals numerous times on his UA-cam channel and in his Master Class. He's recently done a couple videos with other UA-cam hosts, using a split screen. I don't believe you could find anyone better to discuss volume pedals. Would make a great show.
Well, maybe Jimmy Herring since he uses one to control the wet side of his DWW setup, one as a normal vol pedal, and a bunch to control his monitor mix on stage with larger bands he plays with (WSP, the Dead stuff)
0:45 - Having a rough time. That did the trick, cheers. :-)
Thank you, fellas, for the laugh. I so appreciate y’all doing what you do. I think Mick hit it right on the head when he spoke of being treated badly by people “in the know” when you’re trying to learn. I think we’ve all been there. You guys present vast amounts of knowledge and expertise in an inviting and non-judgmental way. Thanks from Texas.
I agree. I have always felt awkward dealing with salespeople in a guitar store. Watching knowledgeable guys trying things out is really informative. Thanks from North Carolina, Mick and Dan.
A TPS episode with Eric Johnson would be a dream come true..
You guys could talk for hours
It could be like a series just about TPS and EJ get together and talk tone.
Hope it could happen someday..
Well, Your'e going to NAMM.. Austin TX is so close (no it isn't)
hatuliko2009 It’s a lot closer to LA than to the UK.
@@OtherTheDave Thanks for explaining the joke.. 🤣
"Unity is when the level is at the same level as your normal level". Thanks for clearing that up, Dan :)
Loved the gag about the no-discount discount code at the ticket site.
And the next TPS T-shirt must be you two doing your happy dance from this VCQ!
Totally paused this at 27:00 to listen to Satisfaction. Lo and behold! CLICK *fuzzz*!
Buckley mention instantly makes this the best One of these yet.
Love your positive attitudes guys , keep doin' what your doin' ! Cheers ! :-)
If I had enough technology, I’d cut and loop the dancing and play it on endless video loop. That was Hil-larious!
TPS vs Andertons: Dance-off edition. Make it so.
Finally, some proper dancing on the show. We've waited long enough!
For those interested in a bit more detail on unity gain:
Unity gain is the point in an amplifier circuit at which the amplifier is neither attenuating nor boosting the signal. Usually this is in relation to a reference signal level around which the amplifier is designed to operate (nominal level).
For example: nominal level for line level audio in the commercial audio world (what's thought of as "pro" audio level) is +4 dBu which translates to 1.23 VAC, or there abouts (I think it's actually something like 1.227, but anyway). Unity gain in commercial audio circuitry is defined as the point at which the input of a +4 dBu signal equals an output of a +4 dBu signal. On a recording console, this is represented by all pots and faders being set to zero (or on certain consoles, like those from Mackie, for example, it might be marked U rather than 0). This is typically tested with a 1 kHz sine tone outputting a signal level of, wait for it, 1.23 VAC.
Consumer audio operates at a different nominal level, usually designated as -10 dBV (10 dB below 1 volt, or approximately 0.316 VAC).
There doesn't seem to be any real standard output level for instrument level signals like an electric guitar, but the signal level is a lot lower than consumer line level - as low as -20 dBu or more (sometimes less). AT any rate the same principal applies with regard to unity gain for pedals. It's the point at which the pedal is outputting roughly the same signal level it's seeing at input.
Sorry for the nerd rant.
"I wish I could honk Jeff Buckley..." out of context and that face at 11:21 ... I'm dying. Hilarious.
BAHA! POOF! Mick suddenly speaks with an American accent! What Mick would sound like if he lived in the neighborhood. what a trip.
My new guitar goal is to "get a sorta kinda wobbly sound" Rock on chaps!
One minute in - I’m in for the whole video. Feels like I’m watching my two long lost goofy brothers. Cheers!!
Came for the VCQ’s....stayed for the sweet dance moves. 🕺🏻🕺🏼
The opening disco inferno gave me an idea: How about shows where you put together boards for specific genres. A country & western board vs. a classic rock board vs. a funk board, etc. Cheers!
Do the next show with Snarling Dog Whino Wah. I use the red one, the same as the one Jeff Beck uses. It’s true bypass!😃
Resounding YES regarding having Nick McCabe on TPS!!!
So glad you guys are going to NAMM! Your coverage, exhausted and bewildered as it might be, has been some of my favorite over the past couple of years. While a daily "Not the NAAM O'Clock news" may be a bit much, I'd love to just see a review episode where you go over notes, or general things you saw that you wanted to talk about. Don't need the live footage! Just want to hear what you got excited about.
I actually just laughed out loud! Thanks for that.
Hooray!
me tooo! 😄
You know, if you two would approach dance as an enjoyable and artistically rewarding thing (rather than a cross between a grand mal seizure and a clown's last convulsions), it would elevate your musicianship to a whole new level.
When I took my first lesson as a jazz drummer, first thing my teacher asked me was "Do you dance"? Word to the wise.
Great point! If you think about it, playing music is a (very specific) dance in and of itself.
I like you channel so much! It's the best channel to get information about pedals. Thanks a lot! Very good work!
I’m loving the disco lights and Dad dancing! Seriously, I nearly spat my tea that was so funny.
Dan and mick please read this comment!!
Please could you take at the boss feedback/booster pedal. Its a boost and when you step on the pedal it creates natural feedback at low volume. So if you want to hold a note or chord and let it go into feedback you can. Its a awesome pedal
So excited for the pedal modding vlog!
Please call the next D&M Drive „The rabbit hole“!
Over-Unity and breaking the laws of physics ;) YESSSSSS!
just came back from work and yes, you did cheer me up!
Ha ha, cheers guys, loved the in/outro, marvelous. My flatmate bought me a mirrorball for christmas which combined with some found materials insulation in the shed means my 'studio' has a hint of the Disco Yurt to it. :)
Hey guys! Thanks - totally outclassed by both of you though.
Finns- awesome. Grinning from start to end. Superb stuff.
Love the show chaps. X
Ah, cheers Nick, hope to meet you in the not too distant future :)
You guys are nuts in the most lovely way.
Nice shout out to Nick McCabe!! it would be amazing to see Nick on the show!!!
haha cool cheering up. big smiles thank u guys. You guys rock and disco!!
I like you guys going on these rabbit hole type shows and tangents and talking is that it makes me feel like I'm learning along with you in the room and a part of the show - just my thoughts on it!
"Try the other foot" is genius. For many years I thought I couldn't wah, then recently I tried the other foot and it worked! As for backplates, I keep mine on because I've had clothing catch in the spring coils during a gig, leaving everything pitched down. Awkward in the middle of a solo. If you want to stop spring "boing" just cut some soft foam into thin lengths which JUST fit inside the colis, and pull them through with an unravelled paper clip. I do all my guitars like this, and oil all the points where springs contact, and the trems are pretty much silent. Keep up the good work lads!
And here we go!!!
Great VC&Q&A episode. Fun to watch and with some very wise Mick words while Dan is reaching scary levels of Yoda-ism preparing himself for his vlog.
Indeed I am a Ducati fan, and owner. Strats and Ducatis? Mick Taylor is clearly a man of taste!
Hooray! Hooray hooray hooray!
Hey guys, listening to your show while cleaning the kitchen ;)
Anyway, total agree with how you are approaching NAMM. Going to enjoy it and sending the viewers snapshot videos on the fly is far better :)
First 10 seconds: I played that for my (Scottish) Higher Music performance exam, as well as Apache (The Shadows), Tears in the Rain (Joe Satriani) and Romanza (John Williams?).
Still play them all, 20 years later 😊
Many thanks Guys :) Great as usual! :)
I love this show.
I enjoy your videos. I like how you dig in and experiment with the controls. I learned a lot from watching. :) I know the vendors are happy with sales.
Mick reaching for an E minor Chord to represent the saddest day when we all know Bminor is the saddest of all keys.
Wearing my TPS boxers while watching this. It’s gonna be a good day! 😄
This is why I come here, insightful questions and white-guy dad dancing. Thanks fellas
Oh yeah guys. What an great disco intro. Love it.
Nick McCabe on TPS! Please please please make this happen 😁😁😁
Another great show guys and Mick's Americanized "accent" was freaking awesome..!
You mentioned Nick McCabe- one of my very favorite guitar players of all time. No joke. Easily a top 10 favorite players ever for me. Thanks!
Hey guys - I saw Neil Finn in a tiny bar in LA when we went to see Robyn Hitchcock - he wasn't billed to appear, and he'd just got off a plane, but he did a few impromptu numbers. He was AWESOME! Love that guy!
I listened to this first on the podcast and that part around 0:44 without the visual context definitely made a tough day better
I have an idea for your next weekly installment. Tangent Tuesday. Because you chaps obviously have a lot of time on your hands (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). Always excited for the next TPS video. And I quite enjoy your tangents. Great show as usual. Thank you Dan and Mick.
You are going to NAMM!!!! Yaaay!!! Hope to see you guys around the campus
Great intro love it
Starts with top gun...you know it's going to be a great one !
Was just wandering through some old episodes and stumbled upon your overview of talk boxes and the like. Couldn’t help but wonder if that was the beginning of your troubles with the neighbors at the old place.. What an inspiring rendition of Norwegian Wood,.. ELO style. Thank You!
Love the Bassline in the " Dance segments" (never thought I'd say "that " when commenting on the TPS channel:-) ). Looking forward to the Vol. pedal issue . I have always run one .(dunlop) Recently started moving it around the chain .
Good live gigging mans board in my opinion, Some type of tube screamer, klon/klone, blues breaker (jhs morning glory), then a Marshall in a box( angry driver). Mobius, Timline, 2 different boosts one before drive one after and a Quartermaster. Epic
Mick, if you prefer the wah after the fuzz, you can still keep it off your board. If you set up a Goodwood Audio Audrey or the new version called the Audition, it allows an insert point wherever you set it in your signal chain for an external effect or group of effects. This would work perfect for you, allowing you to keep the wah off the board but still put it in the signal chain exactly where you want it. You may have to put it in the same loop with your fuzz since you use a switcher, but it would make it so you don’t have to affix the wah to the board.
I feel a lot better now. Thanks!
The buy one ,get one offer sounds awesome, im in !
The Finn gig seemed to energise you guys as all good gigs should! Looking forward to the Cry Baby mod show Dan, I've got an old unmodified one sitting around so I'll work along with the vid! Awesome stuff guys!
You fellas have ace dance moves!
You guys are bonkers, and I love it! Yes, we all love the tangents and two chaps chatting and discovering things together, very much so.
Oh, and I also think a Rat episode would be rad.
Oooohhhh so future mods and sods for us old tronics tinkerers then delivered via Vlogs hey? Pencils ready gentlemens. :D
So glad you got to see Neil Finn! He's one of my favorites!
Thank you very much for your wonderful shows. Please consider including the Xotic wah, Thorpy Muffroom Cloud, Veteran silicon and germanium fuzzes for your future comparisons. Thank you for your excellent work. I am in your debt. Have fun! Best wishes, Gordon Smith
Speaking of modulation... I’ve just added myself to the Longamp waiting list for a Roxanne Flanger...
Thorpy’s Oggin looks very cool also, can’t wait to here it!
I'm freaking out a little, and for reasons other than the dancing... After watching this video, and the numerous mentions of Neil Finn, when I went back to the UA-cam home page, a suggested video showed up for a live version of 4 Seasons.... I've never searched for that on this computer... how the f....
Great show! Looking forward to seeing you do a show on volume pedals. I’ve got one, but only use it on rare occasions. It sometimes doesn’t feel like it’s worth the effort, especially because there’s a volume knob on my guitar. They seems so simple, but I’m hoping to learn some more creative ways to use volume pedals from you guys.
I can’t explain why but it makes me so happy that y’all are going to NAMM. Even if you’re not doing videos. Just the fact that you’ll be there gives my joy to which I have no explanation! Is something wrong with me?! 🤪
Am I the one only one who yelled "Oh effin' cool" when I heard that you WOULD be at NAMM? Make sure to come see Andy T & Devin, plus a host of others at M13 Friday & Saturday..... First drink is on me! :)
An episode on all the different big muff pedals available please :) Thanks
Clicked 'like' at 45 seconds in, excellent.
You two crazy dancing cats. I've just watched the episodes back to back on account of gigs. I am so envious of you going to see Neil Finn. My ears pricked up (or at least they would had I not been wearing Beyerdynamic DT77'0s ) with the question about a board for a covers band. Mick's answer fitted exactly with my philosophy , i.e. get in the same area and the punters ears will fill In the gaps.
I'm just dropping by to say my bassist just gave me a TPS tee shirt. Super pumped!
Hahahahaha
Disappearing down rabbit holes definitely the statement of the week in this and other vlogs. As you appear to be doing lots of shows on great amps from the past how about Ampeg amps made famous by R Stones, Q O T stones A. Great show etc always look forward to friday
Going to NAMM, in the year of modulation, enjoy ! .....& "Meris" .... plus the Disco inferno ... that got me good :)
Oh FFS now you’re going to NAMM ... new t-shirt return incoming. ;) Seriously, have a good trip!
Love your videos and have seen them all, some of them multiple times each! I've started rewatching from the earliest beginnings 3yrs ago on Dan's TheGigRig channel. My favorite is when you discover a setting you love and get lost in the sound!
Gotta ask, when is the next guest appearance or board build and can it be someone of the metal genre?
Dan! You've got the moves. 😂
I was late catching this episode but two quick things: 1) Excellent Simpson's reference. That had me roaring laughing. "Comic Book Guy" is hard to beat. 2) Agree with you on the posting questions to forums topic. Not always the friendliest places on Earth if you are trying to learn.
My vote is for the Area 51 wah for the next wah episode. I have an all options model and it sounds glorious!
Also another vibe show please! Maybe once Dan gets his effectrode tube vibe? Maybe get the EarthQuaker depths on there? You guys are the best!
Mention of XTC and The Finns in the same episode !!! Holy Buckets
Had to pause to go listen to satisfaction, sure enough the click is there plain as day. Never noticed until I was listening for it.
Finally!
Dan and Mick dispel the myth that guitarists can't dance.
I'm sure I speak for everyone when i say Thank You!
cool moves and dissonant grooves. it's the TPS way :D
Cool idea: piezo on the spring claw of the strat!
"We're not going to NAMM." peer pressure, peer pressure, peer pressure, peer pressure. "We are going to NAMM. But we're not bloody working." 🤣
You got it!
Mick, wistfully, “I wish I could honk Jeff Buckley”. also said by millions of women in the 90s! Seriously though, Jeff is a great loss. He was amazing.
Mick, “ Crying like a man”. God I love this fucking show.
Please do boards for different genres...a country board, a classic rock board etc...love the show...greetings from Bangalore, India..
I love Neil Finn and all of the bands he is in. I still cover Crowded house tunes in my acoustic show.
