@@mynt4153 The grandmaster of the Order and the High Council clearly knew. But it was mentioned that they didn't teach the Sith to the younglings. The Sith were an ancient enemy. It would be like the Mongols suddenly took over and destroyed America. Americans know of the Mongols but the Mongols are not known to be a threat. An ancient subdued enemy of the past. Dark side users were around but the Sith was very specific.

After Mace Windu, Anakin was sure that the Jedi were corrupt and wanted to get rid of the corruption.
Anakin was just saying what he thought might convince Mace W. to let Palpatine live. He wasn't concerned about what the Jedi way was or wasn't at that moment, but only saving the life of the person he thought could save his wife Padme.
What if while floating down the lava river, Anakin and Obi-wan continued to argue and fell off the lava waterfall and both died

The pause when Anakin was willing to talk was Anakin reaching out one last time to try to connect deeply with Obi Wan. I think Anakin, were any of this real life and not a script, didn’t want to be a Sith he was backed into a corner and desperate to save Padmè. Obi was knew, Anakin knew that Obi Wañ knew so it could’ve been possible to bring Akakin back to the light.

You're 100% right, it was very easy for Obi Wan to convince him back to the light and I feel like the only reason it played out like this was because they need Anakin to become Darth Vader in the storyline. I think that ignoring the original movies, Anakin could switch back and it would still stand by itself as an amazing storyline.
If you ignore the originals and consider Anakin's temperament, he would have killed Palpatine when he revealed himself as a sith lord.
I guess this is how the prequels would play out if they were made first.

This. This is perfection. It brings a tear to my eye honestly. For Anakin’s sake first and foremost, this is was what I’m always thinking about when I watch the Mustafar scenes. Star Wars is truly a tragedy.
The prequels are a tragedy of good turning evil and the widening paradoxical chasm of good and evil in man. The original trilogy is a hopeful mythology of evil turning good and the reconciliation of the paradoxes of good and evil in man. Yin and Yang.

I really wish this is how it ended it’s so sad to watch anakin slowly turn evil throughout the movie
It wasn't slow enough imo. He went from "it's not the Jedi way!" to slaughtering kids five minutes later. That was far too rushed for me. Not believable. I'd have liked it better if they'd emphasized his internal conflict. He could have killed the adult Jedi out of his desire for order and tried to hide the younglings out of his desire for justice. Then you could have had the troops find and kill the kids later, causing him anguish and guilt that accelerates his fall. Episodes II and III both would have benefitted from being 20 minutes longer. Yeah, yeah, I know people don't like long movies, but I don't like rushed stories that make no sense.

@@Zak-bv4qm Not arguing your point but like Jason above said, the story could have been improved had they further elaborated on Anakins inner conflict, even if it were just a few minutes of him and Palpatine arguing over slaughtering younglings because 'every jedi except you must have been in on this plan' Anakin could have argued that the younglings couldn't have been aware of this & somehow Palpatine manipulates him to go through with it instead of instantly being like 'OK i agree'

What's so interesting is that Anakin did explicitly say to Padme that he was willing to overthrow the Chancellor. Obi Wan was actually hidden nearby in the ship and could have very well overhead him say that. Obi Wan knows the Chancellor is the Sith lord that turned Anakin and could have taken this opportunity to string along Anakin into overthrowing him. He could have sensed that Yoda might not take him out alone and that him and Anakin together could have taken him out. Even if Anakin had the wrong reasons in mind, it doesn't really matter as long as they take the Chancellor out of the picture. There definitely was a possibility for Obi Wan to play along with Anakin for a time even if he knew he was on the wrong path. Obi Wan didn't have to turn Anakin back to reason right now. After all, who know how Anakin would have turned after taking out this very evil influence on him?! Maybe he, with the help of yoda AND Padme would have been able to sober up Anakin after the fact without the Chancellor around?! Why not try it instead of outright killing Anakin?! One could argue this would have been the smarter play from Obi Wan, straight up. And that could have happened regardless of Obi Wan's thoughts on the the Jedi council. Obi Wan could have been totally faithful to the Jedi and not convinced by Anakin's take one bit, he could completely refuse the Dark Side, and STILL this would have been the smarter play.

This is so beautiful. This is what makes the prequels beautiful. The pain that brought Anakin to the Dark side could have been used to soften his heart and bring him balance. I was inspired by this, oddly enough, because unlike the new Disney movies, this is real life, this is what all people struggle with inside their hearts and souls.

Killing the younglings at the temple would have guaranteed Anakin some serious sentence, if not straight from the Jedi council at least from the state. He basically killed Mace Windu too, a jedi master and a member of the council.
The Emperor was still the Chancellor of the Republic and being a Sith wasn't illegal. So attempting to kill the Chancellor was treason, so I think the entire jedi order would be in some hot water with the state. Especially given the Emperor was the Senate at this point.
