While "resetting" continuity is usually a bad thing, I feel like the Luke we see in the Squeal Trilogy movies, and the Luke from the Disney canon comics and his appearance in the Disney+ shows are SO FAR different from each other, in their own continuity, that Disney may as well call those movies non canon at this point and redo them.
Blame corrupt Disney executives and their allies for doing that, especially if they're closet Sith loyalists.

I clearly remember Anakin saying “not again, master obi wan is going to kill me” . Which leads me to believe that his AOTC lightsaber is his second which would put the graflex as his 3rd.
I said this earlier and it was deleted. It is in the droid factory when his lightsaber is cut in half. Anakin said not again.
Maybe he simply lost it once before, or maybe not.
There have been Anakin padawan figures + comics where he has a saber prior to his AOTC saber so if he has lost a saber prior it’s likely that one but I’ve always thought by “oh no, not again” he was referring to almost losing it earlier in the film which would leave him at 2 prior to Vader.

I think he's referring to a chase scene earlier where he accidentally dropped his lightsaber. Obi-wan even scolded him about it.
I prefer the Legends way of him actually creating his crystal.

Anakin’s lightsaber design was driven by pragmatism. Anakin was all about getting things done, and sometimes, you gotta change your process in order to do that.
Exactly. I dont get the premise of the video. Jedi were warriors who spent years training, so why should the handle of their primary weapon suck and a dude who creates a little bit better handle be frowned upon?
@@tnnetnattninuttn4627 I think is because the Jedi want to be known as "peacekeepers", not warriors. Jedi is about defence, not offence. They use their lightsabers to protect the peace, not to be seen as agressive, someone who starts a conflict. So, if the lightsaber is done and designed as agressive, like Anakin's, the overall concept of what means to be a Jedi, a peaceful warrior, is broken.
It's the opposite of the Sith who are seen as violent, dark side warriors, seeking only power, revenge, war, victory at any cost...

@@EduN06 This is true and what ended the Jedi. Sidious saw this and took full advantage of it. They became far too complacent and only the most powerful Jedi could match Sith in force powers during this time.

If I got my hand cut off while holding a particular saber, I would also hate it. Plus if you’ve ever held a graphflex,they’re damn uncomfortable. That’s why Luke’s grip was smooth.
I had the 2005 Anakin/Luke lightsaber that was spring assisted and made sound and it did feel weird to hold

Luke absolutely made the right decision, as whether you look at legends or canon material eventually Luke ends up reuniting with his father's lightsaber again after he's gone down his Jedi path, while I personally prefer how legends handled this with Luke clone it goes without saying that because he let go and didn't let his attachment rule him, he learned arguably the one lesson that would of saved Anakin from becoming Vader.
I didn’t really think about it before, but the fact that Luke wielded the very same lightsaber Vader ended up using to kill the Jedi with actually scares me a little. I’m never going to see Episodes 4 and 5 the same way again.

That would explain why when Rey handed that Lightsaber to him, he just yeeted that thing.
It doesn't make sense that he was using that exact lightsaber when his force projection confronted Kylo Ren.
You've got me thinking here maybe it's a kind of F.U to force users in general of what they stood for on both the light and the dark sides. By using that saber it was his will against the light and the dark in his own way as he was a sort of a grey at this stage. So using a half light, half dark saber, puts his own mark against kylo
Not a fan of Last Jedi.
But I can see why Luke used it.
This is basically used as a mind game to Kylo.
What better way to further get into his head by using the very thing Vader/Anakin used.

The ones that have passed on should be at rest and not forgotten. Those you have passed are a history to learn and to pay attention to what path you are going into.
I believe Luke should have collected Anakin's lightsaber from Cloud City, whether to keep as a possible spare or to dismantle for extra parts. Without it, we never would have had the Rei movies, and the universe would be that much better...
If you drop something the size of a lightsaber from an airplane over an ocean, would you be able to pick it back up while you're missing a hand and it has a 3 minute headstart where you weren't looking at it? Luke was never going to be able to get it back. It freaking fell like crazy into the clouds.
I mean, if I was a Jedi and realized I was wielding the Youngling Slayer 9000, I'd be mad too.
I love how the practical movie making decisions (using a camera flash handle for the hilt, using a green saber so it would stand out against the blue sky) have all of this lore.
Nothing would have made the Emperor or Vader happier than for Luke to find and reembrace his father's lightsaber. They obviously would have seen it as a sign of Luke's compassion for his father and a longing to reconnect. This moves him closer to Palpatine's dream of Luke becoming his new apprentice and a body strong with the Force to transfer his essence.
Maybe him an the saber crystal was communicating... cuz apparently thats something crystals CAN do... an it came clean with what happened to Luke... like a confession...
On Anakins Saber, Anakin's era of Jedi Order... needed to wake up an ditch they spoiled premadonna ways... Anakin WAS practial... even as Vader.. always an his Saber was one that shoulda been used as a template for others to follow too. He made it in perfect adaption an adjustment to changing times... liek having to move from a mystical intergalactic police officer to mystical general an admiral of his own small personal army on any given battlefield

I prefer the way Luke got his lightsaber in legends continuity, where he took the process of the Sith and used it against them. In legends, If I recall correctly, he returned to Obi-wan's hut on Tatooine to find his journal and lightsaber schematics. He then did a Sith process of creating an artificial crystal (which is how you'd normally get a red color) but instead of forging it with the dark side, he imbued it with the light within himself.
This is correct, Luke's crystal is a synthetic crystal like most Sith's, unlike the Jedi who used naturally occurring crystals. Synthetic crystals were frowned upon by Jedi because they resulted in a much more powerful crystal. Usually the process resulted in a red colour, but it could be made to be other colours with enough willpower and focus. Luke had no choice but to construct his new crystal this way, though, as the Empire and Sidious had either totally cut the galaxy off from places like Illum, or had mined out the crystals from many of these spots to build things like the Death Star Laser.
Remember also the synthetic crystals had a particular snap to their activation, which is legends canon why Luke's loghtsaber sounded different in RotJ
Palps was stupid in that regard, Vader made a Saber that he knew and could use well, not one he would have to retrain with

Never understood the obsession some have with Anakin's most famous saber. It's alright, has a good pommel but it's HIS lightsaber.
Every Jedi or Sith should roll their own. Even though blue is my personal favorite color, Luke is a green. It's HIS lightsaber. His own Jedi way.
Anakin’s best saber is his AOTC one, even he reinforces that idea by using it as the template for this Vader saber and not his ROTS one.

I always thought lukes green crystal came from Qui Gons saber Obi Wan had stashed away in his hut on Tatooine. And i always thought it odd Palpatine would say to Luke "much like your fathers" when speaking to him about his newly constructed lightsaber. To me it looked "much like Obi Wans" perhaps he was referring to its function as a weapon like vaders and not its appearance🤔
After all the people, young and old, male and female, robot and droid alike, Anakin killed for power in the Dark Side, I can't believe that not only did Obi-Wan keep the lightsaber, but that he gave it to Luke. So much hate, so much pain in that hilt and crystal and he hands it to him like no big deal. Huge plot hole. If anything could have turned Luke it would be that saber. And while we are at it, didn't Disney decide to give the same saber to Rey as well? So now, two hardcore Jedi in Luke and Rey held it.
It should have MADE Rey a Sith. She is, after all, a Palpatine. /s
Almost forgot, another huge plot hole. Obi Wan went INTO the archives against Yoda's advice and SAW Anakin use that saber, yet he doesn't toss it into the lava, no, he takes it with him as a souvenir. Whoever wrote that book needs to rewrite that part. Claiming Obi Wan took the "tool of a Jedi" from the newly minted Darth Vader, is ridiculous. I will type it again. He should have nonchalantly tossed it in the lava as he walks back to the landing platform. MAYBE take a second to look at it for memory's sake, but ultimately discard it like so much refuse, realizing it was used that way. He should have been able to feel it on the blade and feel the crystal sobbing.
Luke needed the new lightsaber. It signified his growth in maturity and in the Force. I feel maintaining his Anakin saber would have held him back. Also, consider Vader's line in ROTJ. Vader and the Emperor took note of the lightsaber. It may have all been the will of the Force.

Well, then it was DEFINITELY not meant for Ray Palpatine! I think Luke was right to seek out his own crystal and imbue with his own power, instead of appropriating the crystal/saber of another. Every Jedi or Sith should do the same because it improves their abilities vastly with the lightsaber. I'd definitely want my own crystal because I'm a big Form 1 fan, which by its nature requires a stronger bond with the force and your weapon to reach higher levels of potential.

Well this all depends. If you are a Disney clown then no he should have changed paths. If you are a actually Star Wars fan and understand what happened in legends then you know he made the right decision.

it always makes me laugh that Anakin's is supposed to be some pure weapon when it is one of the least comfortable to hold and swing.

I 100% relate to Luke. I recently went through a very similar experience involving a lightsaber and letting go of the past.
Family is important, but that lightsaber carried a lot of baggage, and in a universe where the Dark Side could taint even objects, and then let that seep into other people, tainting them, I think it was better for Luke to find his own.
Big surprise the Jedi hated yet another thing about Anakin and then have the gall to act shocked when he snapped.

Luke’s connection to his fathers other crystal in his lightsaber might also explain why Luke was able to to tap into dark side abilities but remain Jedi (when he force chokes the gammorian guard in RotJ)

I love how I always hear about how Yoda didn't approve of Anakin's lightsaber, yet their sabers were almost identical. Actually, Yoda's looked even more like Vader's than it did Anakin's. But I guess we're just going to overlook that
Those who deny history are doomed to repeat it. He didn't seek to understand Anakin, instead distancing himself from his image of him. While this can work on a personal level, he was unable to help others facing similar issues (both in legacy and cannon).
Luke made the right choice in leaving it behind but once the Empire was defeated, I think he should have taken the weapon back and sought out Kenobi's and Yoda's sabers as well to hide or store away as a sign of respect for the Jedi he grew close to.

Luke created his crystal like the Sith do. A synthetic crystal, as the majority of natural crystals were either inaccessible due to the Empire, or mined out for things like the Death Star. Luke had to resort to using the Sith method of forging his own crystal, as it was the only way to get one. Ironic, since he was using the Sith's method against them.

I think this is EU, Disney might’ve dipped into it but I highly doubt it. A good rule of thumb I follow is if there is a lot of information or something that seems more powerful than I though, go with EU
If only Luke realized just how awful the faithful Jedi of the Fallen Republic were to Anakin, then and maybe then will he realize that his hatred wasn't meant for his father, but Yoda and Obi Wan who literally failed Anakin from the start. Anakin may not think that Obi Wan failed him, but that is merely a lie that he can only tell himself as his split persona because that is all he can do.
I think Luke reasons were completely right to dislike while Obi-wan’s and the rest of the old Jedi order did have some points was largely wrong. Luke’s lightsaber was what all lightsaber should be weapon a symbol of Jedi ideals and values while at the same time weapon with practically in mind.
The Jedi were to focus on their image they forget the lightsaber was also weapon and need to used wisely but also effetely. Any Jedi can have a lightsaber that looks more like a Sith’s and still do their Jedi duties while any Sith can wield a lightsaber maybe more fitting for a Jedi all is needed to do horrable actions with it. For it is the user and how they wield it that’s important about the lightsaber not which order they belong to.
Dooku and Luke though in deferent ways proved the point ,though one was more agarent but right point of view while the other was more humble and the need for surrival.

Well simple, Anakin’s lightsaber was made for War; Made for a different enemy. Founded upon conflict and battles.
Luke wanted peace, and Anakin’s lightsaber couldn’t offer that.
Luke’s lightsaber was made for peace and rebirth.
Anakin's lightsaber (and later the one Vader built) always looked really uncomfortable to me. Like there is all kinds of stuff jutting out of it, weirdly large switches/knobs and all those flanges at the bottom of the hilt.
A lot of the signature lightsabers look cool but also not very comfortable. Dooku's on the other hand looks super comfy and isn't covered in weird buttons and junk lol
I know it is cause those sabers were designed in the 70s by Lucas and his team so they were made to look memorable so the audience wouldn't just see it as being too generic looking. In the original movie all the saber hilts stand out to the audience and now they're so iconic that we can instantly identify whose saber it is just by looks.
However a simple and smooth hilt would be so much more comfortable. Or curved like Dooku's.
I always found it odd that the fore shaft of his saber is a smooth metal considering his right hand is robotic. I would imagine a tacky surface would be needed.
I also wonder why his right hand is limited in rotation, unlike general Grev

I think kyber crystals were a poor story choice. Diamonds or amythyst are ok, but not Kubaz Zirconia. Luke facing Vader with a dual-phase blade or a Lambent-core blade would be very interesting.

It’s literally a weapon designed to cause the most damage! The skinny emitter in Jedi lightsabers aren’t just for looks (they encourage more restraint in strikes). I guard you won’t find a single Sith with a lightsaber that has a skinny emitter! But Anakin’s lightsaber is sturdy, complex, and designed specifically for combat.
Knowing Luke, it’s clear why he would late this lightsaber! 😂

I still have a toy version of Anakin's and Vader's lightsaber and gave it a few swings and I don't understand how anybody is supposed to fight with that thing the hilt is uncomfortable.
I know the feeling, I have Dooku's lightsaber and can not swing it around without gloves unless I want the grip textue pressed into my hand for the nexed 20 minutes.

Bah, I have no need for expanded universe or Disney lore. I will breath my last believing Luke's green crystal as Qui-Gon's old one. Stored away in old Ben's hut, awaiting a worthy master. A master who seeks justice, not just order.
