    I so wish this had become a thing. I live in Trinidad, and there are round green glass Heineken bottles everywhere.
    Bring it back, Heineken! Now is the time!

    This bottle was talked about in nearly everyone of my design-objects classes and all of my classes that focused on reusability or “eco-friendly” building. Wish this went into more detail.

    maybe now is the era when consciousness about the impact to environment and developing countries is high enough that concepts like this could really find some traction. besides, companies nowadays like nothing better than greenwashing their public image so initiatives like this seem like just the ticket.

    What a great idea. Glass bottle producers really need to revisit this concept. Perhaps a design/shape change could make the bottle more pleasant to hold.

    This design should be revisited and updated for a mortarless construction, more like Lego. An extremely popular brand should really consider adopting that idea. A drink for creative people.

    I am a magpie when it comes to unique glassware. I wish more manufacturers used unique glassware shapes or colours, even if it costs a bit more to produce.

    Great concept. I wonder if it would pass modern day load and stress tests normal bricks have to pass.

      I've seen glass bottles used in cement walls. Though I'm not sure how'd it hold up under stress.

    • @Rubiecat
      @Rubiecat 3 роки тому +2

      it probably would not do great in areas with a lot of earthquakes and natural disasters like say Japan for exemple, but in safer areas I'm sure it could be very useful ! maybe not for big houses with severals floors but at least for simple shelters and other smaller stuff. Better than just throwing away the glass

    that's so pretty! I dislike beer but i wouldn't mind using it as building material if it was actually good. I don't see how cement would properly stick to a non-porous material.

    If I lived in a place where a substantial portion of the population lived in houses made out of bamboo, grass, and shit like that it would be cool to have part of my home made out of glass bricks like a greenhouse!

    Really interesting topic, esp in these times of ocean pollution and climate change. Round plastic and glass bottles ARE currently in use in homebuilding - check out Earthships. Some adobe based houses also use them as bricks. The necks of two bottles are cut off and the rest is joined to form a cylindrical brick which (because of it's shape) is really quite strong. The glass bottles are often used almost as stained glass elements in the walls, letting in colored light from the outside. Lots of info on UA-cam - check out "sustainable housing".

    If I remember correctly aluminum cans are far more recyclable than glass bottles, but if bottles must be made; this design or something similar should be standardized.

    • @MrDruism
      @MrDruism 2 роки тому

      Yeah why would someone want a big thing made out of glass in their home? If your inside, why would you want to look outside? I heard some stupid hippies had a silly name for this, I think they were calling it a ‘window’ or something. Dumbasses!

    This was obviously only ever a cynical marketing gimmick, of course you couldn't build houses out of bottles, let alone in a part of the world so prone to extreme weather

    • @quillpen815
      @quillpen815 2 роки тому

      I'd like to know more about this. I dont think it's cynical if someone took the effort to design such a concept and put it into production, however short that time could be. It could be a large financial loss otherwise. That said, i think it was more naïve to think that glass bottles will be enough without it being tested as a proper building material for the more extreme weather/geological conditions in that part of the caribbean.
