Back in the 1980s, there were few monster heels who could stack up to the monstrous King Kong Bundy. From Atlantic City, NJ, Bundy would headline several major WWF PPVs including Wrestlemania 2 vs Hulk Hogan and the first ever Survivor Series.
Both Bundy and Hammer would wrestle on Wrestlemania 1 & 2, events which would help shape the future of Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation.

I dont know if this has been asked but how did Greg feel during that Battle Royal on a Saturday Night's Main Event where it was him and Mr Perfect Curt Hennig as the last 2 guys in the ring? I just remember the crowd getting behind Greg to win that Battle Royal against Hennig. Even though Hennig won, I had never seen him get that babyface pop and was left wanting to see some matches between them.
Been loving all the interviews with Greg. What an amazing story teller.
Was Billy Jack the maniac he's reputed to have been?
If anyone person were to be given an award for being able to remember so well all the things he did with so many talented professionals in the industry it would be Greg ..
Thank you for the suggestion. We asked Greg in the follow-up interview: ua-cam.com/video/DWb2wGzsoJQ/v-deo.html
Back in the 80s when I watched wrestling, I assumed Greg was just one of the meanest leg breakinest guys to hit the ring. Now we get to see that Greg is actually a warm human being. Thanks for doing these interviews.
The Figure Four Master!!
Greg was always cool to us kids when we saw him after the show. I later figured out that the heels in the ring are often the coolest guys in real life whereas babyfaces are often (but not always) pricks.
I hear ya, I love to watch his shoot interviews! He definitely seems like one hell of a man!
Absolutely. Greg is a true gentleman, knows all the stories and in his so
ft spoken manner tells them all well. Also has outlived many of his opponents and you can see that they were actually friends and teammates and he sincerely misses them. Stand up guy from the word go!
Can’t say enough about the interviewer either; has the facts, asks the right questions and just lets Greg talk.
It's funny, everyone says the heels are some of the nicest guys in real life.
I met Bundy in Windsor Ontario. He was so cool. Very nice, soft spoken to my young son. His hands were massive. We got his autograph and Barry O yells, " Hey you want an autograph from the greatest wrestler in the world? " My son says " No my dad says you are a complete ass". Bundy laughed so hard he cried. Now Bundy was in the ring and kept his eye on us. Barry O shot me the finger during his intro. Lol
Absolutely hated Greg as a wrestler....meaning he did his job so well. Such a down to earth gentleman in real life.
Yeah he was a great bad guy!
He does seem like a nice fella, with interesting memories and stories.
@@6wm bro he's a pot head and the ultimate heal at the same time. Wot a awesome dude. Lol
@@thetvbaby83 Greg The "Hammered" Valentine 😄
@@6wm smoking stuff and drinking tea. Awesome bad guy!
What a class act. He definitely had his his head on his shoulders. Nothing bad to say about anyone.
I swear Greg Valentine is the most hilarious and articulate interview ever! Love that SOB!!
Greg being from Seattle has the laid back Pacific Northwest vibe to him.
My buddy’s dad was an executive at Kraft foods. He said one time they brought in King Kong Bundy as a guest speaker and it was the best presentation he’d ever seen.
Did he talk about how much he loved kraft dinner or something?
I'd like to tell this to my boss. Was it just a general sales presentation or something else?
Man! Valentine strikes me as a reel cool genuine guy.
I love these interviews with The Hammer! What a great heel that I truly despised, but hearing these clips really makes clear that he legit seems like a cool dude with an interesting perspective
Great story from The Hammer about travelling with Bundy.
Went to a wwf event at the West Milford high school in NJ back in 84. The hammer was walking to his Caddy and I went up to him and expecting him to tell me to eff off, but instead smiled shook hands with me smiling and gave me a autograph! And he was the bad guy back then. So cool and he became one of my favorites
I graduated butler in 89
I remember i was a kid Like 8yrs old . I was a Hulk-a-Maniac (i will admit it) and i remember Bundy attacked Hogan with Avalanche after Avalance for like 10 minutes. I was so upset I thought Hogan was gonna die. I didnt know it was a show back then. Lol.
This was good times. When wrestling was at its best.
Added. I didnt know Bundy was from Jersey. RIP King Bundy!!
Henry "The Fonz" Winkler did a comedy movie in the late 1970s called The One And Only which was about an actor turned professional wrestler. During the production he got to meet several wrestlers and announcers from the past. In an interview, Winkler stated that professional wrestlers are the best actors in the world. I believe him.
Me too. They have to be " on" the moment they come out of the locker room. Id screw it up so fast lol
Sylvester Stallone said the same thing!!
Some of the guys I never cared for back in the day like Valentine Honky and a few others, I love listening to them talk about wrestling
They were great at their jobs then because we hated them as kids but now realise how outstanding they were
Rest in peace Bobby Eaton. Do you guys at Title Match have a shoot interview with him that you can share? That would be so cool. 🌺
The most recent interview is from Wrestlecade a few years back. We were lucky enough to work with him early on in our Virginia days though. Here is rare match we can share featuring Bobby Eaton vs Ricky Morton. RIP to the legend, very sad day. He was so kind ua-cam.com/video/baLIVu2piy4/v-deo.html
He was really good in Memphis wrestling Mid-South with Sweet Brown Sugar , only got better with time finally ending up with midnight Express and both combinations of that team he was the backbone one of my favorite wrestlers.
@@ivanrowe2880 Bobby Eaton was Sadly one of the most under rated wrestlers ever! Loved watching him.
Got to see the Hammer at a small venue in New Jersey, he signed autographs and I was scared to death to say anything because he looked so mean. These interviews are great because they show how cool Greg is.
I remember Shawn Michaels saying he and Marty were intimidated by Valentine because he would sit at the end of the bar with scowl on his face and not talk to anyone.
But he said over time, they got to realize that’s just how Valentine was.
That was kayfabe for ya.... heels may have gotten in shit for helping a choking victim at a restaurant ..... times were different back then
@@tysonprior2587 That’s true. But I think only the biggest of biggest assholes wouldve punished a wrestler for helping someone whose life was in danger.
I can’t remember the wrestler, but on Arn Andersons podcast, he was asked about a wrestler whose grandmother died and Ole Anderson wouldnt give them time off to go to the funeral and said, “You missing a show isnt going to bring her back.”
Arn admitted he was intimidated by Ole, but had he said that to him, Arn wouldve told Ole to fuck himself. I think anyone with a single vertebrae wouldve done the same.
He always looked slightly tired to me more than mean. Once he started moving and working over an opponent though different story. His "mean" vibe came across to me more in the way he executed moves.
No you didn’t
The plane story with Bundy is hysterical!
Thank you, Mr. Valentine, for so many great memories. I wish so many legends were still around. RIP King Kong!
The Hammer was my fav wrestler when i was a kid! One of a kind!
Can listen to Greg Valentine for hours. So many good stories from back in the old wrestling days. Stories like this one that brings a smile to your face. These are the memories you need to reflect on. You see King Kong Bundy in a positive light.
Only subscribed coz the hammer said so. Could listen to him for ages.
same
Me too
Just did
I have no doubt Valentine is one of the toughest wrestlers to ever lace up the boots, but you can tell he has a tender heart for his friends and those he loves. You could tell he really cared about Bundy.
We absolutely despised the Hammer and Beefcake back then. The British Bulldog’s victory at Mania 2 was a larger than life moment for us as fans. Greg was always a phenomenal heel, and certified badass.
Love Greg as an adult....... As a kid I despised the guy as a wrestler 😆
Greg is the Man!
Love Greg Valentine!Ran into him back in the 80's at a place in Nashville that sold stage clothing called Dangerous Threads..We were scared to speak to him in the store...lol.We waited outside and he came out and was so nice ,gracious and down to earth.Just a really good person. Will never forget the day we got to meet one of the greatest wrestlers and a real class act.Greg (The Hammer)Valentine.
Bundy was a very nice guy. We met him after a match & wanted a photo taken with him. We waited at the front door, while he waited at the back door of the arena. Finally we met up & got photo together. Will miss him...
One Thing Im starting to learn about Valentine.....He dont like LOSING. I love it !
Love Greg’s stories of the old days. Such a cool guy. One of the few left sadly.
The Hammer!! Just an awesome watch and listen
He was always one of my favorites and it's so refreshing to hear the inside scoop and backstage stories from one of the best. The feud with Tito was so real.......
Greg The Hammer Valentine always delivered a great match, was one of my favorites
A ComiCon at Frankfurt KY? Now that's funny!
Greg , You and your dad are the best !!!! I enjoy watching your matches and interviews .
Greg speaking very eloquently on King Kong Bundy...Thanks !
Thank you, Greg. We appreciate you, too! More than you know. These clips you give us here are interesting, exciting, and wonderful
Go figure-Valentine's character came across as a douche.
Reality - real nice,laidback dude.
Just shows you how convincing these guys are in character!!
you took the words right out of my mouth...was gonna say the same thing...lol
I heard that Big John Studd was a super nice dude for real too. Heenan said he was way too nice to be in the wrestling business.
@@kenworthNH I noticed the "heels" you rarely hear bad things about outside the ring i.e. Studd,Eaton,Valentine are all good people...
I met Bundy on a couple of occasions. Always ready to give kids pictures and autographs. Very good person
Yes! I met him in New Jersey as a kid once about 1997 or 98. Absolutely, positively, one of the nicest celebrities i ever met still to this day. He obviously was the bad guy of the match, but I still rooted for him.
Hammer was one of the most hated heels back in the day, so he did his job very well. As John Cena once said to a WWE Raw crowd, whether you boo me or cheer for me, it means I'm over and that's music to my ears.
The first time I saw Greg Valentine was actually the very first time I saw wrestling when the first Wrestlemania was shown (on 2 month tape delay.....) in Australia in May 1985. I was 10 and Hammer stood out not only because he had Jimmy Hart, but because he was defending the IC belt against a guy I immediately liked, Junkyard Dog.
Honestly, I could listen to Hammer's stories all day if I had time.
Don’t know if I tell you enough the hammer interviews are 🔥🔥🔥🔥I could watch his stories all day
Hammer is one of my fav guys to listen to
Greg has a remarkable memory. He remembers every place and time he wrestled. Its amazing.
I love the preface of "ill clean up the language" and then he cuts loose. If that was cleaned up, I really wanna hear the uncut version :)
Bundy was a great guy it’s a shame he never go the kind of push he deserved.
I have been watching Greg's interviews and have a whole new appreciation for this man
You can't help but smile when you listen to this man. Great guy, fantastic wrestler and a staple of his era.
I was never a fan of the WWF, but Greg reminds me a lot of Bobby Eaten, a great guy
Greg was a true professional just like his dad. Always rooted for the heels and especially Greg
Greg was a great wrestler, great heel, great technical wrestler, and great in a match that went long
Thank you Greg. My Dad was a huge fan back in the early days. He has passed away now but I still like to listen to you talk about this grand sport. . .
King Kong and The Hammer a couple of wrestling legends watched them all the time on tv when I was a kid, and whenever I watch wresting today .. then I just appreciate King Kong & Hammer that much more lol
I could listen to valentine talk all day great interview
Met both Bundy and Valentine years ago. Went to a house show in 1986 where Bundy had a match vs Koko B Ware. We ended up meeting Bundy after and he couldn’t have been more nice. He signed my wrestling program. As a kid growing up watching wrestling in the 80s I hated the heels, but after meeting Bundy I became a fan. He was a massive man and as a kid he was larger than life.
Met Greg Valentine briefly many years later. My brother and another friend and I went to see a late night movie and we spotted him in the theater. We saw him outside after and he was outside having a smoke. We walked by and said “Hey Hammer big fans!”He just smiled and gave us a fist pump. This was much late in his career and he was wrestling in independent circuits. We found out later he was on the card for some event that was earlier that night at a small local auditorium.
Really Enjoy all your Videos Greg, takes me back to the great days of Wrestling
Always enjoyed Greg Valentine. I knew at an early age how talented he is an what he & his father Johnny Valentine did for our entertainment. Glad to call them Legends of wrestling.
Mr. Greg Valentine you are one hell of a story teller. Man I love how you sift through your past experiences and before your begin answering the interviewer questions, you methodically grab images, sort em out and lay those thoughts on a blank slate. It makes me feel as though I'm there with you and I envision every descriptive detail. All your journeys and people you rolled with begin to play out like a motion picture movie. Man you are the greatest! Thank you for being 'The Wrestler' I really deeply respect. You're the kind of guy I'd love to have a sit down with and drink and talk over old experiences and share laughs. I can see easily see you as a good friend, the kind of friend that I'd call my brother.
I only subscribed because Greg Valentine asked me to.
I hated watching him as a kid, but he seems like a really good dude.
Valentine seems like one of the coolest dudes ever. Down to earth, honest, great stories and a gentleman. Top notch!
I grew up watching him and beefcake. Played the role the best with any of them. As I'm older now, I can appreciate what he did. He held some belts. Valentine 4 president. Such legend.
I just randomly came across this channel Not a huge wrestling fan, but I like listening to the interviews.
Greg is such a great guy
I could listen to GV tell stories all day long.
Greg was a great heel I'm glad he's still alive and looking good.
Wow. It was so cool that he looked into the camera at the end and said Thank You.
I for one Appreciate you as well for all your years of hard work and entertainment
I grew up watching WWF in the 80's and even though Greg The Hammer was a heal, he was one of my favorite wrestlers. Glad to see that he is doing good and putting out great videos.
Greg valentines got some of the greatest stories, and hair cannot forget his hair.
Love this man. He was everywhere. Great stories. Great worker.
I moved to Charlotte North Carolina in 1971 when I was 5. We moved into a brand new subdivision named Idelwild farms and a few wrestlers lived there. I would walk over to Ric Flairs’ house and get his autograph. He was so nice. Nothing like on tv of course. The Koloffs lived there too. And a few others that I can’t remember but it was pretty cool. Ivan Koloff and his brother that his name escapes me. They were all so nice. Gave all us kids autographs.
Super cool memory!
No you didn’t
@@Ijustinsultedyou I know.
Nakita
Bullshit
Greg is one of favorite wrestlers of all time! Thank you for all the years of entertainment! It was definitely better back then in my opinion lol
Use to love the way Greg would get hit....then take about 3 steps ..and then FACE PLANT!! So frickin funny..I loved it!!
Hammer. I remember you wrestling in Houston as Johnny Fargo! You were a great worker then as well. The first time I saw you I thought, "This looks like Johnny Valentine's son!" You and I were on a flight to Winnipeg back in the late 80's/early 90's (for different reasons!). You were in 1st class- I was not. I complimented you on your professional and work ethic. You were kind and said a tired "thank you". The other wrestlers in the cabin gave you grief over that. What I remember about that WM2 match in Chicago (I was attending the LA part- so your match was given to us after it had happened.), was that you did virtually all of the work in that match and Brutus did hardly anything. Was he injured?
Love the Hammer. My favorite thing to watch on UA-cam as far as wresting goes. So much insight and real deal behind the scenes stuff. I am 51 years old and been a wresting fan since the 70’s
Thanks for all your work.
i genuinely think wrestlers are hands down the most entertaining people in the entertainment industry. more entertaining than actors, musicians and even some comedians. They are hilarious and just genuinely awesome people on and off stage. (for the most part)
Valentine a great interview. So down to earth and likeable.
I love the Greg Valentine interviews . He tells it straight and was a great heel
Like so many people have said, I never thought much of Greg the Hammer, but after watching these shoots interviews with him, I realize how good of a guy he is. Makes me wanna go back and watch as much of his career as I can. Really good guy.
I remember the Hammer's matches with Rugged Ronnie Garvin those were some no nonsense wrestling matches that looked legit great stuff back then
God bless Greg Valentine for sharing his behind-the-scenes anecdotes of the wrestling world. We're losing too many of our heroes and villains at an alarming rate, so we as old school fans appreciate any and all who step up to the mic to say 'I was there, this is what I saw, this is what happened, etc.' Thanks again to Greg and to outlets like TMW.
Great video ty
Always enjoyed seeing Greg in the old WWE days.
Great wrestler he was a big part of W.W.F. becoming Great. He deserves a lot more credit then he gets. He was always great entertainment 😊
Subscribed because the hammer said so... fantastic interviewee. Remember watching him wrestle as a kid. Class act in real life even all these years later
Love ya Greig.....always enjoyed your matches
"I'll clean this up" DROPS F BOMBS AT WILL
Just subscribed. What an amazing channel to follow. Love you guys. Watching The Hammers shoots are amazing. He’s still my fav guy.
Dream Team was my favourite team back in the day...Hated seeing them lose to the Bulldogs in WM2.
I've become a huge fan of Valentine since all the shoot interviews started, he's awesome!!
Love hearing his stories. 👍
Subbed and Liked !
Of all the pro wrestler interviews across all the different channels and podcasters - Greg “The Hammer” Valentine’s are with the best: candid, insightful, and delightful !
Keep ‘em coming !
Been a fan of the Hammer since the late 70's. Really enjoy hearing all the vets talk about wrestling. I have stopped watching wrestling because it's not as good as it used to be on Saturday morning or Saturday evening. I still remember my Grandpa watching Jonnie Weiver and Paul Jones. I was like 9 or 10 and he was 70
I have to agree with these comments . I watched a lot of professional wrestling back in the late 70s in through the 80s and the transition to what it is today. the 70s and 80s style of wrestling and characters are still my favorites and yes, Greg the hammer valentine was a great heel character, I always loved watching him wrestle, he brought a lot of energy into the matches and watching him being interviewed now, he’s a super cool dude, I agree these guys are fantastic actors.
Greg, thank you for playing the heel so well. I love your style of wrestling, your honesty and old school nature.
Thank you Greg The Hammer you were one of the best.I enjoy listening to all your legendary stories!!!Rock on Brother/Legend!!!
"JELLY TIGHT" 🤣 WOO!
I know of a few pro wrestlers but I never met Bundy. All I've ever heard he was the nicest guy! RIP
Love you Hammer. You're one of my All-Time favorites. Thanks for the great memories.
I always was a fan of Greg. I am even more so now after these interviews
.gregs memory is still pretty sharp…I appreciate this documentation.
If ‘The Hammer’ asks me to subscribe, that’s good enough. Done.
