- Mr. Humphries is sent to Australia by Mr. Grace to work for Mr. Bone, Mr. Grace's cousin. Shortly after arriving, Mr. Bone makes a new health scheme to pay a great sum of money to each employee upon retirement. In order to be able to participate in the scheme, the staff are required to have a physical examination, which they prepare for by doing various activities to stay in fit.
Must have been weird for Mr Humphries to walk into a weird exact replica of what he left back in England.
Amazing seeing Mr Humphries walking through Melbourne in the 70s
It's amazing when you find these gems like finding the American version of only fools and horses Are the American version of Steptoe and son Which was massive in the states
Almost verbatim of the original's episode "Strong Stuff, That Insurance."
I learned that John Inman visited Australia in 1980 and 1981 to appear as Mr. Humphries in their version of the series. I understand that the scriptwriters were not happy about rewriting their scripts for the Australian series, but this one is just as good. This episode was based on the British episode titled "Strong Stuff This Insurance". 😀
The actors make good copies of their English counterparts but are clearly very talented in their own right.
I never knew this Aussie version existed. I prefer 1 or 2 of the Aussie versions of the characters. Not a bad adaptation. Having the continuity of Mr Humphreys in the middle and the other characters play off him was a good idea
Must be one of Shane Bourne's earliest roles. I still love him best in "Thank God, your here".
These series are wonderful and very amusing. After having watched the British version several times I must say I find the British version more entertaining than the Aussie one. Sorry.
English version or Australian version it's still funny with Mr.Humphries.
It's not as good as the original. But it's close to it.
I haven't seen the original in a long time but i thought this was very funny .
Mr. Humphreys helps of course, but i had a few good laughs from the other characters also .
Its really odd that this would be a spin-off, but with the same exact script and similar dialog. I mean.....I guess the character MR. HUMPHRIES was self-aware when he said " this is just like being at home." Still odd though. Lazy writing. Not as funny either. But still cool to see that they did do another version.
I do generally prefer the British version but this is a good one

There was an Australian version of Love They Neighbour aswell both terrible doesn't work

@@woody5831I looked up air dates. AYBS and many of these episode titles were from early 70s. The AUS version was 1980.

I heard rumours of an Australian version, and that John Inman was in it, but I never realised it was actually a sequel to the UK version. And I instantly recognised Reg Evans (Mr. Cocker) as the Station Master in Mad Max!

" ARE YOU BEING SERVED originated in the UK and aired from 1972 to 1985. The AUSTRALIAN version was a SPIN OFF, that aired from 1980 and 1981. THE PREMISE of the the AUSTRALIAN VERSION CLEARLY STATES...that MR. GRACE send MR. to the the AUSTRALIAN branch of " GRACE BROTHERS" to work temporarily. And you gonna sit up here talking about your " facts" prove otherwise. If you don't go sit down somewhere.

I wish to know the same thing. After many, long searches, I found people saying that they also cannot find it. Would be nice to see how Mrs. Crawford took being made in charge of the department.

I guess if you didnt see the English series, this might be funny. However watching the same basic skits while trying to imitate with these actors isnt funny at all.

Well, can't argue with that, if no Mr H this is worthless in comparison! As at first not realize the "copy" from U K original remembering it well as episode continues. This is more duplicated sadly lacking the quality as one watches this to the end!
The Australian cast just didn’t seem to have the chemistry of the original UK cast. Also the set looks very low budget. But I guess they did the best they could.

The 1980's. More specifically, 1980 to 1982, I believe.
By the way, is the theme song to this series the one that reached #39 on the British charts, with "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" on the other side? Just wondering. . . . 🤔
I'm not too versed in John Inman's musical career, but the theme song is a slight alteration of a song he wrote and performed. Things like "Grace Brother's Mens' Department" were removed for the sake of accuracy with the show.
Are all the Australian episodes exact copies of the original? Or just this one?
All except one are modified copies of the originals. The one which is unique is Undesirable Alien.
Why go to Australia only use one of the original casts? And then do the exact same stories that you did in the UK why not create something different? I don't know. It was a hit and miss for me.
If they didn't just bloody copy and paste the script and storyline it might actually be pretty good.
I wonder what was on the minute and 17 seconds that was cut starting at 24 min.
A commercial break. Much of the footage that remains of this show has long periods of a black screen which I believe would have been commercial breaks. I cut out as much of that dead space as I could.

It wasn't meant to be original and back before the internet, didn't need to be. Sadly, it really was a missed opportunity.
I Saw an English Version of this Television Program Year's ago,and I've got to admit that this Episode was far better as I never had such a good laugh for a long time

Well, for the most part that's true, however, Undesirable Alien is an original episode.
