In fact, when I'm not thoroughly swamped in managing the Marlin Firmware project, I'm trying to improve the current toolset for retro coding with a polished version of bAtariBASIC (2600) and tools for working with AtariBASIC in modern editors like Sublime Text 3. With any luck, by the end of the week I'll have a perfected ATASCII to UTF-8 converter completed. The retro coding tools on macOS have a lot of catching up to do compared to their Windows counterparts. github.com/thinkyhead/6502-Tools
There's the 1088XEL and 1088XLD. But they aren't using the same form factors as the original computers. The XEL is using a Micro-ITX form factor for its motherboard and the XLD is using the same form factor as the Atari 1050 Disk Drive's motherboard. There's an interesting video on UA-cam of both networked together in a MIDI ring to play 8-bit MIDI Maze together.
Halfway through I was thinking: Why don't we build all our cases like this? "And then - disaster." - Oh, that's why.
It's like listening to NPR but more interesting.
Anything would qualify as more interesting as NPR.
AMAZING JOB! This video has required a lot of efforts to be produced! Congrats for your energy, your style and the great contents!
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. 👍🕹
Great job love your approach to videos and representing the information, may it long continue.
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. 👍🕹
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. 👍🕹
Cool vids! BTW, what's the handheld on your desk just right to the white mic? tnx!
Psion Series 5 I believe
@@RetroRecipes Thank you"!
When I watch your videos, I feel like I am watching Blue Peter. ;)
That's such a nice compliment ❤️
When a late-night "Chill" radio DJ talks about technology.
PCBWay. What does that stand for again?
Perifractic's Commodore Board Way! Haha
Puppy Come Back way
More like "Puppyfractic's Cute Bark" way.
This is like the Bob Ross of old-school computer gaming... Keep up the great work!
Just a happy little accident 🎨🕹️
@@RetroRecipes Bravo, Perifractic! Big respect for all of the research, patience, passion and diligence it took to make this excellently produced video and brand-spankin'-new Commodore 64! Cheers on the many witty puns too!
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. 👍🕹
YOUR VOICE IS LIKE SOOTHING MARSHMALLOW FINGERS ON MY EYELIDS! MUST.... STAY.... AWAKE!
Sweet dreams
@@RetroRecipes HAHA LOVE ME A HEART, SUBBED!
Peri's voice has never affected me that way, I remember One of Peri's first video. It was when he put not one but 2 wall wart type adapters in a box to build a C64 power supply! I told him then to buy some tools that would hurt him (Not from the dollar store!) and I told him to practice! I see my words didn't go unheard! Anyone who tries and works as hard as Peri Fractic deserves a great following! I've been a fan ever since! So to him and you Keep Going Your Doing Great! Never Stop and never let anyone tell you, you can't do something that is important to you!
A big thank you from this part of the Retro Community!
And Please Stay Awake! You might miss something Great!
As I saw it there is an unsightly kludge hanging out the back of the ultimate C64. Are we sure there aren't better options that might bring the kludge in side the case to protect it from accidents
Yes you can get tiny USB drives, that's just one I had lying around
High 5 peri yes I tiny usb drive is one option, but I read about a lot of them over heating. Could the board have a usb port on the in side of the case? My oppo 203 here, so people like the region mod adapter plugged in to the back, untill it get damaged, where as I have the region mod safely in the case. Have a good one now
Awesome video, I had no idea that Legos would fit on the C64. But you are missing the D and instead got two F.
That was so he could pay respects twice as fast
Yeah that was bothering me all video
Just a draft print error
Perifractic's Retro Recipes it’s so you can say f to pay respects twice for not being able to use the Commodore logo.
So great that you included a link to these PixelWizard plastic pieces in the video description...
Wow I really appreciate the effort you've put on this - incredibly entertaining.
Just heard you on the Retro Hour - now one of my fav episodes
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. 👍🕹
Oh. You have Quickshot IX Joyball there. Hated that ball design but same time big buttons and an autofire made shoot em ups so much easier.
I liked it too
i see you so calm then i think just one thing, this guy is sitted in his favourite corner in the world!!! congratulations for your men's cave!!!
Very nice. Impressive. But I did notice that right hand shift key in one of the final shots. 3D printed adapter fail?
I like the puns. :) ...Oh, and I've already voted for the Lego Commodore 64 at the Lego website. :)
What’s the story behind the left hand black ring?
You'd have to ask Mrs Perifractic ;-)
Retro Recipes lol, I was wondering because a black ring can mean many things, all the way from asexuality to swinging
That was awesome! this channel is the mutt's nuts :)
Cheers! 🐶
It's funny how the 64C's keycaps used such an iconic font that's usually associated with logos and titles-and didn't use it anywhere in their packaging or advertising, but instead continued using Kabel. It's also interesting that the (non-PET) font they used on the breadbox models has yet to be identified. No, seriously; do a search for it and you'll find a lot of people discussing it but having no luck finding a perfect match.
Loved the Holden Commodore reference!
yeah, the chevy SS guys in the US would find it funny to see from where it came.. and where it started.. factory wise.. i dont recall a Vh 'SS'.. might be wrong..
Yeah, same. I drive a 1993 Holden Commodore, built just months before C+ folded..
sadly, Holden recently announced to take the Commodore out of their product line... ;.(
Possible to "glue" the whole thing ?
He doubles as an ASMR channel in case this hasn't been mentioned before. Oh hope you glued that space bar as the center looked like it wanted to come apart
I actually improved the design for the final version, with longer tiles on top. Thanks!
Well done on the new C64! Would you please tell me what that modern little black laptop is to your left? I have a similar-looking RCA tablet that I converted into a mini Atari ST.
Psion Series 5!
I'm one of those that backed the "Stalled" key cap set. And you're correct, we are NOT happy about being taken. Hopefully someone creates a real solution one day soon. Til then, this is a nice alternative! Great video!
Sorry to hear that. Lucky they were not too expensive, but I feel your frustration anyway. 👍🕹️
Any chance you could make the file for the keycap stickers available?
Unfortunately not for a few reasons however I did make these available recently commanderx16.com/deluxekeycaps
This was fascinating to watch.
I'm new here but how can you type so fast on a c64? whenever I type fast it skips the middle letters of words since it doesn't have a keyboard buffer?
did you add something to allow it to type faster on it?
Sounds like you might have a faulty keyboard or it just needs cleaning of the connections. Buffer is faster than human.
@@RetroRecipes honestly my mind is blown. I thought it was a flaw in the system
What function did you perform at the keyboard factory? It sounds like your boss was a control freak. Glad you escaped and found ALTernative employment in the END.
You hit the gas station fuel button when it comes to the amount of puns.
And a world's first fitting serial number isn't "one" or "three" it's "sixty-four".
And everything is called "sixty-four" because "sixty-four" is AWESOME.
But nice video and I think I watched it about 11 times already (but I should have watched it 64 times :).
5:57 Did you like "lakridspiber" ? (The laqourice shaped as a pipe).. they are very popular here - even for children (however the EU is trying to get them banned)..
They're still waiting to be eaten!
Perifractic's Retro Recipes please let us know if you like’em :-)
My dad loved licorice so I'm sure I will
@@RetroRecipes This is very soft licorice (1/10 or 2/10) .. if you like it let me consider sending you some more "serious" licorice ;) (ie stronger flavour and and more salty)
Wow, haven't seen liquorice pipes in the UK for a very long time. Same with candy cigarettes and sweet tobacco. All banned because they "promote smoking"
lets all be honest we are not here for the c64 we are here for puppyfractic
OMG your puns are horrid! Love that idea for the keyboard!
Excuse me! How can you call that office chap a creep when you admitted to flashing the colonel?
To be fair, the colonel started it by having his privates on parade.
1:02 does Ashley know you're cheating on her with another associate? Also, you're gonna get banned from Walmart at this rate.
Cool project though!
She is very cute, btw!
This was fantastic and I appreciate, very much, you sharing this. If you ever find it in your heart to do more on the Ultimate-64, I wouldn't mind at all. I am very curious about that product.
That dog makes this the greatest vid ever!
Do you know anywhere to find 3D printing files for a C64 case?
Sadly they do not yet exist
I could care less about the Commodore C64 then or today. I still sat on the edge of my seat watching this whole video build. As much as I loved the old machines and sound I was always ready for the newer faster better color and sound machines myself. Love 8 bit sounds nothing better. I really enjoyed this video and it is very cool and impressive you met your criteria and I really enjoyed the LEGO keyboard. I know I am a freak because I am not ordering 3 of these but I want to wish you well on sales I think this is amazing and it looks like it will be hours if not months of fun for you all. I do want computer history preserved. Always enjoy your videos.
How much less could you care? :D
Jet Set Willy is a platform video game originally written by Matthew Smith for the ZX Spectrum home computer. It was published in 1984 by Software Projects and ported to most home computers of the time.
The Retrobright comment made me chuckle. 8-Bit Guy really loves retrobrighting stuff.
Great project. When I was younger, I owned a c64. Then I moved onto the c64c, 128 and finally finished with an Amiga. All awesome machines.
@@HelloKittyFanMan. Hi. I had them when I was younger. And I owned 2 Amiga 500's and 1 Amiga 1200.
Best voice ever.
Yes :)
what about the SID? only from an old C=64?
Press *FF* to pay respect
There are no words to describe how incredibly cool this is.
Vote for the Brixty Four, and tell a friend!
Everything you do on this channel is magical, and I love you for sharing it with us. This is like my third favorite channel on UA-cam. Don't worry though, you're only behind Tom Scott and Bad Obsession Motorsport.
Blocking you now for saying third favourite.
😉👍
Time...to get the funk out!
I was thinking 'what if ya drop it?' then a second later....
Where can I find that clone PCB? Thanks
See thanks in description
I was on the stream :D that was the best stream ever
Awesome build, sir. And so inspiring that you've come up with a way for others to enjoy a brand new C64 in a world with dwindling supplies of the old. Liked, subbed, recommended, bookmarked, photographed and included in the family newsletter. Your channel is now joint first place with my other 36 favourite UA-camrs.
