Absolutely the most dynamic diversity of 2 blues monsters! Matt brought the intensity ,passion and soaring phrasing that had me floating. Josh has been my favorite blues guitarist for years and he definitely backed that up with soul and sophistication. Also that was his best vocal performance I have heard so far. Josh Smith is the real deal! The complete package!
Always love Matts playing but absolutely digging and studying Josh's style of late, both VERY incredible players, Josh's versatility in other areas really makes him shine
How does Josh bend those 13s like that? Matt has been my favorite blues player for awhile now. Complete musical arcs. Would love to hear Josh together with John Wedemeyer, someone with the harmonic knowledge and chops to keep up with and push his flights outside.
Awesome chord comps by both gents whilst the other was making his donuts. Soloing is fun and obvious, but the plant needs the dirt to grow…if ya git my word there
The way they play off of, support and compliment each other reminds me of the Young brothers or Alex and Eddie Van Halen. Both have uniqueness in their styles and both are incredible players but there's more to it. Together, they go to a level beyond their individual abilities. I liken it to how the members of The Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, CCR, etc... are great musicians individually but together they create on a higher plane.
Matt S. has a strong Stevie/Albert King vibe going on which seems to be the most prevalent influence in this generation of blues guitarists but can sound a little over worked to my ear whereas Smith has really soaked up a lot of BB King's style, primarily in the way he phrases which can really lend your notes a LOT of impact. Of course he's fierce fusion and swing player as well.
Geez.. would it EVER hurt for these guys to use a smidget hint if freaken reverb in the vocals. And mic the kick just to get some lower feel and more frequencies, & wider spread coverage not volume necessarily but lower frequencies need more volume. Because all the other instruments have that privelage of coming out of a speaker ya know?
why doesnt anyone get dressed up these days....check the old legends from t-bone to bb....always looking sharp...it adds another dimension in my opinion...the playing is as always awesome..
Why doesn't anyone dress up anywhere these days besides in a corporate president's office? Just a sign of the times. The style is to look like a slob. That applies pretty much across the board. No different onstage.
was thinking the exact same thing watching this-though probably dressups like srv and jimi come to mind, takes it to another level when they push the artistry of it
The Dumble ODS starts with serial number 101, so Robben's ODS is the second one Howard has built. Robben, Josh, Kirk Fletcher, Eric Gales and Matt are my favorite guitar heroes, RF being my no. 1 since the Talk to your daughter. Except Josh I have seen them all live.
Josh Smith is just like meh during Matt's solo. While if that was me with my very mediocre playing I would be shitting my pants. then Josh takes the guitar and just assualts the damn thing like WOW!!!! Both players just melted faces no ones business!!!!! lawd hamercy
This is a band watching, Listening, and feeling each other... I love This!

This is definitely the best live version of this song that exists on UA-cam. What a great audience, too
Matt absolutely raised the roof with that solo. It simply doesn't get much better than that on a slow blues.
The bass player had some nice smiles and I think he really enjoyed himself :-)
Love the huge smile on the bass guitarist. Thats what its all about right there
He really enjoys the musical conversation with others.
Josh Smith has the best style, all the gnarly notes!
Happiest Bass player in the whole world. Always smiling and having fun. So Nice to see.
Josh Smith is the only guitar player in the world who gives me solid chills to the bone even before he hits that note from above
Two masterful blues guitarists. An absolute pleasure to watch and listen!
Amazing video, thank you! Matt Schofield keeps the wonderful Albert King style alive. 💯🙏
I just popped in to tip my hat to the bass player. Cool dude. Great player. 😎
Love to hear these two killer cats playing on a slow blues. Fun stuff!!
Always love Matts playing but absolutely digging and studying Josh's style of late, both VERY incredible players, Josh's versatility in other areas really makes him shine
Albert King is either smiling or weeping at Matt. DAMN!!!
Josh is absolutely unbelievable!
Josh used to be like one of my favorite guitarist's, until I'm hearing Matt for the first time, DAMN!...love his tone!
@11:44, damn, Josh playing his but off!
I can listen to These guys any time of the day.
I love how both guys can play that blazing fast,in your face lead or sit back and play the perfect rhythm to go along with it,so impressive!
this is why I bloody play guitar. yeah!
blues is a convesation about feelings . all four of them . love , desperation , disapoitment , and hope
masterpiece ❤
Matt you crushed it. That is how it’s done my friend
Loved it and the sound of that strat was sent from heaven!!!
Great. Just great.
Thanks for the video I enjoyed it alot you all are some Bad Azz musicians ☮️ Peace.
Amaysing solo from Matt Scofield.
I love this fucking bass player. Every time I see a video with him. Instant hit.
Josh is the master of playing just enough without over playing. HIS dynamics are so balanced , lickscare so perfectly placed.
wonderfoul bass line!
These guys are really good, love them blues thanks
Two of the top players, absolute thrill this was!
absolute fire. their tone is amazing.
This is a BLAST !
Man, I wish I had been there that night. Amazing energy and playing all around.

I'm here for Nick
Matt's lick right at 5:15
Luscious.
two of the best blues gitar players from this moment!! Don't forget in this session the bass and drums!!!
that's as good as it gets right there....holy cow...
Super...!!!
so it is Schofield Too! awesome musician...
Both excellent. Can't fault either of them
A player like Josh Smith doesn’t sweat going second after anyone....but damn Matt Schofield surely set the stage.
keep em coming Lynda
Matt Schofield is great (that might be the perfect strat tone IMO) but that solo by Josh Smith was otherworldly.
That look Josh gave Matt after Matts solo lol!
Either the bass guy is high as a kite or has the best day in his life...prolly both lol.
😂😂😂
Like a kid in a candy store. Totally appropriate too!
I get it. If I could even sit in n for just ONE song playing rhythm only for/with Matt and Josh, I probably wouldn't stop smiling for a week.
He smoked one, size pipe of a Peterbilt!!!
God DAMN!!!
Every time josh sings the word baaaaabe take a shot.
3:40
KLASSE !!!!
THANK YOU GUYS VERY GOOD MUSİC
Damn good performance by both guitarists but matt holy crap I was shell shocked
Matt is the sizzle.......Josh is the steak. P S dig the Bassplayer too.
merci,j ai bien aimé cette pièce musique, quels joueurs ils sont, bravo
Вот это блюз..! Закочатсья можно от счастья !...
Yeah Right ON!!
Oh my god
Although I do still love josh smith he’s got that unique tone
Awesome chord comps by both gents whilst the other was making his donuts. Soloing is fun and obvious, but the plant needs the dirt to grow…if ya git my word there
11:40 mark......HOLY $H!T!!
Когда приедите в Москву?
That is how a strat should sound.
2:37 He is GrassHopper
i thought Josh killed it amazing blues with some jazz in there he is advanced
Bass player sure is enjoying himself and he's high as a kite , cool beans

Omg MS solo, holding those notes with the sustain just makes me drool. They are playing some very VERY dirty guitar here
Matt with the Stevie Ray
Holy ....
Josh's compin' is very tasty!
Albert king.... he was influenced !

mmmmmmm thats some tasty playin
The new Robben Ford and Steve Cropper
If you ever wondered what it would have been like if SRV and Danny Gatton played a blues tune ........this is close. 👍
It's amazing how we're become accustomed to the "pulling/snapping" of strings but it can be a dreadful sound at times.
Did the drummer pay his way in or what..?
Geez.. would it EVER hurt for these guys to use a smidget hint if freaken reverb in the vocals. Who’s the bass player?
nick campbell

Nick Campbell Destroys :)
:)
Seen Matt live and Robben too. Just prefer Matt, his style and tone. Although I covet RFs Dumble #102 lol
102? I didn't know that his Dumble had such a high serial number.
@@colaboytje 1983 tan Dumble, it's pretty famous!
@@rogb3199 I knew he had a Dumble. I didn't know it had such a high serial number. :-)

@@jsblues Oh. Thanks for the info. I thought they were numbered by production date.
This guy play the bass in the same level that those guitar players.
For an encore, the bassist stabbed Saruman in the back.
😂😂
I think Josh should try lightening his strings down from 13s/14s for more big bending. Matt plays 11s and it's not like he's short on tone.
TOAN
Two of the best guitar players alive, and some weirdo on bass
LOL, the bassist wants to "get the mojo" but then he realises "oh damn... This is the blues, and I'm playing the bass. Ok. Not excitement then" haha
What do you mean?
Man, that was loud
knowing josh plays the changes ruined all other blues guitarists for me.
(except the ones that play the changes)
96 bars of guitar soloing is a bit much but some nice playing
Putin is good at playing the guitar
At least show the drummer, he's the one, & bassist, holding it down!
Josh Smith is just like meh during Matt's solo. While if that was me with my very mediocre playing I would be shitting my pants. then Josh takes the guitar and just assualts the damn thing like WOW!!!! Both players just melted faces no ones business!!!!! lawd hamercy
Josh Smith is a fine guitarist but in this video his lead sound is like a thin can, real shame. His rhythm sound is good.
Singing is not Josh's forte.
Great guitar players, but they need a real singer.
I'm falling asleep here, I'm gonna switch over to a Lance Lopez number
It is a little boring and old sounding as great as it is, i get what your saying. Incredible guitarists but done a million times already
