  • Hello everyone!!
Cheers for taking the time to click on the video it really does mean a lot !
This week i head out on my kayak up the River Little Ouse in Norfolk (East Anglia).
I head up the river towards Thetford before being stopped by a pair of angry swans protecting what i can only guess would be some young signets near their nest. I tried to get past for about 45 minutes before deciding it probably wasn't going to happen without getting nipped so i moored up and found a lively little pine plantation wood to set up my hammock for a nice woodland wild camp. I sink a few tinnies and cook a home made chilli on the campfire! i hope you enjoy the slightly longer version of video.
    Big love everyone!
    Craig.

Thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos, Craig. I can see you even do shots of yourself moving away from the camera, which obviously means backtracking. Also like listening to your conversations. Very relaxing. Thanks Craig! And Zeppelin Rocks!

I used to kayak the Medway a lot and got used to dealing with the swans. Waving your paddle or shouting is not a good idea. You're then seen as a threat. Best way past them I found was to move slowly and stare straight ahead as if you're fixated on something ahead of you. Don't even look at them. When they realise you aren't aware of them they calm down pretty quickly, On the other hand if you're not comfortable doing that then absolutely turn around and avoid the encounter. Nothing to be embarrassed about mate.

Mate gday, when I make a chili I use chuck steak (get butcher to mince it) 70% dark chocolate (i use four squares), which will give it more richness and body, also half a teaspooon of sugar helps offset the acididity from the tomates. I picked up these tips from a flat mate when I was at uni. 👍🍺

Yes, I have been attacked by a Swan, on the Great Ouse. It just wouldn't let us get past, eventually we had to do like you did, take the dinghy out and walk round.
Chilli tips, I always add some cocoa powder, 1 or 2 teaspoons for the size you're doing, and sometimes some American corn meal, which really helps thicken the sauce.

Old wives tail. I was asked to remove a swan from a ladies drive way. It was a building site in Scotland and I was being hit with all the same stories. The thing was being aggressive and doing a bit of hissing, there was no cygnets about so I threw my yellow jacket over his head, lifted him under my arm and returned him to the river. I dare say they may provide a problem for women and children but your a big burly man with an oar in your hands. I'm sure you'll survive 💪

Easiest way to deal with swans is take a couple of bread rolls or slices, or some seeds/oats in a bag and if you do get a feisty swan to pass, you can usually turn them from a foe into a friend with a bit of grub🙂. Best way to pass swans is just drift past them with your paddle at your side and avoid paddling if you can. Don't panic and start thrashing around, just chill and offer a bit of food if necessary. If they calm down and go for the food, just get by gently while they are eating it. Approach them as a friend, don't show fear and get by as smoothly and quietly as possible. Most swans are just fucking with ya! I've had them eating food from my hand on the kayak before and you can get by most feisty swans if you're confident with them and don't go steaming through.
If none of that works, then you can shit yourself😂!!

You had me laughing quite a few times Craig! Great fun! I always put a teaspoon of Cinnamon in with the Chipotle and Cumin Seeds. Sliced Chorizo sausage goes in well also! I'm like you with Chilli, I love it!

Sweet video dude, my top tip for a decent chilli is an extra pinch of salt and a couple of squares of dark chocolate at the end! Bangin' 🤟👌
