15" MacBook Air - Apple Made the PERFECT Laptop!

- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- Sometimes all it takes is a little change for a big improvement and Apple may have just done that by dropping the price of the 13" M2 MacBook Air and introducing a bigger 15" MacBook Air to go along with it at the lowest price point ever for a big screened Mac laptop at $1299. But is this $1299 base model worth it and what are the advantages of paying $100 more for Apple's 15" Air?

Hi Greg Apples education price is great with 100.00 off and 150.00 gift card. Which is great. Thanks for the great review! Love the new Air! 😀
$1249 at Costco, all day, every day.
Compare it with the #imac m1 please 🙏🏻💙🌷
I just got mine today, it's my very first Apple laptop. I've never owned one before now. I use an M1 24" iMac for video and photo editing, so I didn't get this to take the place of my iMac, I got it because it's Father's Day and I deserve it! 💜
Oh yeah???
@@whitemailprivilege2830 Be good to yourself. 💜
Mini-LED would make it perfect. Pro machines are great for those who need that power but for the vast majority of us, doesn’t get much better.
that would increase the price of the laptop plus most people will not buy the pro models then. So, it's a lose lose situation for both budget consumers as well as apple
@@PrinceSaangwan then dont charge more says capt obvious guy
@@PrinceSaangwan Agreed but I want a lighter 15/16 laptop and I do not need the Pro chip. So a 15 Macbook Air with Mini-LED and 120hz refresh make a perfect laptop. And yes I would pay a slightly higher price for it
I own the 16 M1 Pro and the 13 Air M2. I need a magnifying glass to see a difference. In Office I see no difference at all. When watching movies when you have both devices next to each other you can see a tiny difference. No reason for me to buy a Pro. If I only had one Macbook I would go with the Air 15.
@@joemueller8766 Not really, the difference in black level and contrast is striking. It was immediately noticeable when I first got my 14" Pro. And HDR performance is not even close, and the difference is still pretty visible in SDR. And if you use apps like BetterDisplay Pro, you can access the 1000nit brightness during regular use, and it makes a massive difference. The display is easily my favorite part of the new Pro laptops, this level of display is not common.
This is more aesthetically pleasing than the 16" and 14" pro models and even the 13" M2 Air.
NO.
Very truee❤Looks reallyy better than 13 air
For $1,300 this laptop should not ship with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD. That is just not enough going into 2023 and beyond. Should have been 16GB and 512GB minimum for such an expensive laptop. Feels like they purposely do this to incentivize exorbitant upgrade prices or push you to buy a new model sooner.
Exactly. A reasonable config would make this a $1,700 laptop.
bruh if this was a windows laptop it would easily cost $2000 with shitty speakers and shitty battery.
@@PrinceSaangwan but with 16 GB RAM and 1.000 GB SSD
All Mac computers should come with a minimum of 16 GB of internal memory imo thanks for the review!
how about you pretend the base model with 8gb ram doesn't exist. So just for you, apple launched a macbook air 15 with 16gb ram starting at $1499
Apple Likes money yk
I agree and that's why Ima stick with my M2 13in MBA until M3 comes out and ill see if next times model starts at 16gb of ram especially for $1200
Mine gets delivered today. I have a 2017 MacBook Air, very excited. I always wanted one of the larger screen Macs. You are so right, this is perfect in every way for me.
you been patient and now you get rewarded with bigger screen.
I'm typing from the new 15" Air. I like it a lot. The speakers are a very nice upgrade from the 13" MBA. This keyboard takes a little getting used to. I prefer the keyboard on the 13" M1 MBA. Otherwise it is fantastic.
I solely got this for the bigger screen and the fact that its less than 1500 bucks. Always loved the 15 inch screen and this is well overdue. My first macbook was a 15 inch pro. I dont need the power or ports found on the 14 and 16 inch macbook pros and it definitely didnt make sense to spend 2000 just for a bigger screen. So thank you apple. The base model is all i need for my everuday email checking, occasional shopping, and UA-cam watching.
I have a M1 MacBook Air 13" and it's great - but a 15" screen is tempting. It would have to be minimum 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD, and then you're getting into refurbished 14" MacBook Pro kind of money.
BINGO! I am coming from a very old Windows PC that the 1 TB hard drive in that computer is over 3/4 full & I am running an outdated operating system on it. So I will be getting 2 TB SSD for headroom & future growth & as you said, the storage & memory upgrades get very close to 14" M2 Pro Territory. That is a better value if you are going with upgrades. But for those that only want & will be fine with the base specs then the 15 Air will be intriguing I bet
14 inch pro is at 1599$ on Best Buy
@@kevinbusch1730the M1 Pro
This is going to be a best selling machine, this might be the replacement of my power hungry
16 Intel MacBook pro late 2019 which I still love and it works well
Super excited. Mine is coming tomorrow. Ordered it in 8gb/512gb configuration. I'm a soloprenuer who mostly writes, do meetings and manage clients. Hoping it's going to be great buy. 🙃
I'm on the fence between the 15 inch Air and 14 inch Pro, both would have 16 GB Ram and 1 TB SSD. The price difference is $300. I guess it will come down to the difference between the screens on the two. Great vid!
Just get yourself a 16 inch M1Pro and if you mind with an External SSD
if you don't mind the extra weight, the MacBook Pro has a much stellar display, and you get the better speakers/extra ports. If you want more portability, and won't be pushing the cores for sustained loads, get the MBA.
For me, the perfect MacBook is the M1 14" MacBook Pro - bought discounted. Ports, speed, display, speakers, and power. Price vs Performance vs usability wins hands down for me.
Its the elephant in the room that nearly most You Tube reviewers are ignoring.
I've had a 13" MacBook Air for a long time, and I have 16Mb, but I have 256Gb SSD, and I find it a bit confining, and sometimes I have to remove stuff in order to update the OS. So this time I'll get at least 500 Gb, or larger. And I will buy the 15" model, which is what I've always wanted.
If you do video edits and stuff just go for a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro its just around $200-$300 more and you get a better laptop overall
what year air is it? cuz some of those you can change out the ssd
Get 1tb and above
@@Chris-ey7zy Yeah I agree. and idk maybe get a MBP 14" instead.
I traded a base model MB air 13" for the new 15" (16gb RAM, 512 GB HD) and I LOVE the new 15" MB. IMO the BEST MB air apple has ever produced. I can't stop using this machine. Way to go Tim Cook!!
Tim Cookie! 🍪
I think the M2 MBA 15 will become Apple's best seller. The M2 MBA 13 has had significant competition from the M1 MBA, primarily on price, but there isn't an Apple product that is competing with the base model MBA 15. Of course, if you spec up the MBA 15 you're in Pro territory and it becomes a whole different story.
Thank you Greg for having the foresight to compare this to the older Macbook Air, that was very helpful and exactly what i was looking for.
Been waiting forever for this to come out! So excited.
There compare to old 13 inch Intel Air was brilliant reference to explain the side considerations. Great recipe!
Listening to you talking about these machines is very tempting…now I want one😢😩🔥🔥🔥🔥Apple products are thee best Man🙏🙏🥹🙏🥹…watching from SA🇿🇦
I’m SHOCKED Apple lowered the price. This is SO un-Apple like.
I was really expecting $1400-$1500 for the 15”. $1299 for this laptop is amazing.
Only $1300 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD lol
@@julianperry4767 Yeah… that’s the only downside (or catch). But some people won’t need more RAM, let’s be real.
I seen people who brought a 16-inch only for a big size. This new one is for them.
@@GregsGadgets my wallet can get used to this lol
Don’t say anything or they might notice
Three weeks from now: Why I’m returning the 15” MacBook Air/ **I made a mistake** / Facepalm thumbnail
I was in the Apple Store and asked the employee to show me the difference with the displays Pro to Air. He showed me 2 Movies. I didn't see a difference. Then he told me the black is grey on the MBA and totally dark on the MBP. Then I saw it. Ofc the refresh rate is noticeable, when you compare it directly. But if you just stare at your MBA display you will be very happy. It's only a problem when comparing all the time.
Great video. For those who think about a new laptop from Apple. Thanks Greg. Would be my entry level Apple laptop. 🍎🙂
Thanks for this thorough review!
Sooo tempted to buy one. 16” is heavy 15” is perfect size but no high refresh rate 😩
Thanks this video helped me make the decision to get a MacBook it’s going to be my first one. Do you have a video for beginners that would be awesome.
Got mine today. Yes upgraded from a 2019 MacBook Air 13 w/Intel. 15" is so nice.
Great video I just got the midnight it’s amazing the big screen does make a huge difference
Awesome 👏🏼
Once you add more ram snd storage you are in Pro territory at 1,599 when I think somewhere they got the 14" M2 MBP for 1,750.
Nice overview! Typing from my 15" M2 Air in Midnight. Love the wallpaper as shown on the 13" M2 Air in this video - care to share a link to it?
which color 15" MBA is that? Silver? The lighting really makes it look different at times
Best clear in depth review so far compared to other ppls
Good thing I got the 512GB instead of the 256GB good video though 💯%
What about hosting a live stream? Is that the same “load” intensity as video editing in DaVinci? For example, if you’re hosting a live stream in StreamYard or maybe in OBS? Will that press the limit of power on the M2?
For on the go it is perfect indeed, but for at the office, it lacks support for multiple monitors.
Hi just wondering how much you paid for the Mac Book your reviewing?
I'll wait for the 15" M7 Macbook Air if there is one, and probably the base model will have 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. I only bought the 14" M1 Pro last year. 😅
I am confused between 13' MBA with 16 GB RAM or 15' MBA base model. I am a CS student whose budget is tight and who plans to use this machine for a long time. Will a bigger size benefit me or should I go towards RAM for longevity?
he said most people aren't using SD cards nowadays anyways. lol.... so all the dslr, mirrorless, go pros, drones, android phones don't use SD cards?????
Giddy 5 year old on xmas morning.
Here is my own experience with the MBA 15", compared with my MBP 16" M1 Pro: Display, noticeable lesser quality than the MBP, Speakers, if the MBP is a 10, I would rate the MBA as 6 or 7 Max, Keyboard, MBP has an edge too, importing large RAW files into Lightroom abot the same performance (I was surprised on this), browsing net using Chrome and any other light tasks, no difference, portability is great , my major reason for getting the Air for travel and avoid lugging the MBP 16, all in all, not prefect, but, very good compromises
i got mine today. Wife has 13 inch it so much better for me. I can actually put two windows on same screen.
I'll wait until they upgrade the display to Mine-led and it would be soooo perfect!!
Mac Air is the best on-the-go laptop for me. Powerful and Portable.
Great review.
Great review
I think the MacBook Air will eventually drop to $999 for the 13” & $1199 for the 15”. But pretty good value even now imo.
No one uses an SD slot? I use that slot for my backups to SD card. I’m not a fan of dongles.
I am one of those ex Windows, new to Mac users. I bought this laptop with 16gb + 1tb, cos my Windows computer with 8 gb was getting sloppy even when typing in Word and watching UA-cam lol
Give me a 14” MacBook Pro over this any day. Better screen, better sound, better ports.
I was going to get this but got a mint condition 18 battery cycles M1 Pro MBP 14 for $900
I think they should put one more USBC port in the right side. This should be perfect.
should have given us 2 more ports on the right side.
Exactly
what are the disk speed for the 1TB are they close to the pro in that regards? When i watch 8k hdr on youtube I notice a slower SSD really quickly, just by streaming.
Does anyone notice on the bottom/sides where the bottom piece of the computer meets the sides that it isn’t perfectly flush? It almost like the bottom piece is slightly sticking out and isn’t perfectly smooth/flush.
Just wondering since I just got my MacBook Air (15in) today.
It’s about time Apple started giving Greg review units. It’s getting tiresome listening to some of these other nonces’ reviews on UA-cam. Great vid Greg 👏🏼 (and correct colour choice!)
Maybe one day lol.
Agreed, mkhbd is getting boring and iJustine is 200% fangirl cringe. I vote for Greg, Maxtech and Miani!!
So now 256/8 is ok…
I don’t mean to hate but UA-camrs switch up on opinions like crazy
Granted, the new M2 Air 15” is indeed a killer deal, I still don’t think the base model is enough.
For most people, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is good enough. The problem is the pricing where you are paying $1000+ for a machine that still has these specs. Or fork out an additional $200 to upgrade the RAM or storage, since both modules are soldered onto the board.
@@jared.mohammed I agree. The average person doesn’t need more than that. However it’s unfortunate that in 2023, when tech is HUGE, we still get $1000+ products with meh storage & ram options.
For me to be perfect it should have a XDR display, that would be SO NICE
I am going through a career transition into UX/UI with front end. I am a former architect so I do so some freelance 3d modeling & rendering. I am torn between upgrading to 24gb RAM + 256 SSD or 16gb RAM + 512 SSD. Can’t do both cos then I might as well go for the basic MacbookPro 14 for 100 bucks more. What config would you recommend?
They have a killer lineup for everyday users 799(regularly on sale) M1 MacBook Air then 13 inch MacBook Air at $1299 then the 15 inch at $1499 like finally not everyone is a damn pro and some people want a great laptop good build quality and long battery life. I have the 8gb 512 ssd 13 inch m2 and couldn’t be Happier might pick up a 15 inch after I’m done with this laptop.
I’m sure this will sell a lot once it’s discounted a bit by third party vendors before the end of the quarter.
watching your video on my new macbook air 15
The 13 inch MBA charger has 45 watts the 15 inch MBA has a 35 watt charger .... can anyone tell me what would happen if I used my old charger for the new MBA 15 ???
Typing from the new 15" MBA. The keyboard feel is different from the 13" MBA M1, and I can't say I like it as much. Other than the keyboard feel, I love this thing over the 13" MBA. The extra screen is much appreciated. And it's not that big that transport would be an issue. Yes the 13" is ultra portable, but the 15" is not overly big. The speaker sound is a noticeable upgrade. I love the longer, my flexible charging cord, too. I will miss the portability of the 13, but not the screen size. Time to upgrade the leather bag to fit a 15".
You sure? About the portability
@@SerPapus It still fits in my small leather backpack, and I didn’t think it would. So yes, it’s still easily portable. I am happy to trade a little in portability for a substantial amount of screen and sound.
Does this laptop have a better cooling system?
How about 3d rendering and charging capability (for example, can we plugged in the charger all the time while using it)? Would that reduce the battery life?
Amazingly, performance on battery and on charger is the same. But obviously, heavier tasks will use battery.
This macbook good for photoshop and lightroom edit tell me pls ?
That dog will hunt. What's for dinner Grandpa? Grits and gravy with a bigger display....not for $2,000+ but for the low, low price of $1,299+ tax, title and license...shipped free on the Big Brown Truck
Nice one Gregs
Thank you
Great video, wish I could buy on Amazon, computers but they never reimbursed me fro a return to my credit card. (Been trying for over 1.5 years) So I will only buy from other places like Best Buy and the like. But love the size and price of this computer.
Can anyone tell me what color is this?
The issue, no native HDMI. The dongels suck, and last a month if lucky. And no XDR display.
How can I protect my case?
No one has even mentioned that it is heavier than the 13" MBP
Why no one mentions iMovie any more, this laptop can handle everthing!. I think we reached the point where unless you’re in the top 1% of power users, the M2 base model has you completely covered for the entire life of the machine, what 5 years before you want to replace. I mean no one needs more speed than this unless you’re in the 1%. Oh have to say, as usual these are absolutely brilliant reviews, I always come here first for insight.
Perfect? The missing possibility to run natively two external monitors (not even with a docking station) is a huge dealbreaker… otherwise it‘s a great device and the lower price is a very good thing.
I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air and I can't wait to upgrade to the 15". I am just a basic user so I don't need a pro (had one years ago, it was great, but just way more than I need)! And I assume the Liquid Retina display on this new one is way better than the 2020 M1. This is the Model Y of the apple laptops!
It’s sad that you need to upgrade your computer every three years. Waste of money.
@@chezchezchezcheztheir money to spend. Are you there daddy
It would have been perfect to brand it as just "MacBook". Anyway, it´s an amazing device.
Can u please compare it with the #imac please 🙏🏻🌷💙
I am waiting for your M2 Ultra review.
You can do everything you just said on iPad Pro
Not everything. Macos still has a lot of advantages but both are good choices!
Hi Greg! I have 14” M1 MacBook Pro but 512 gb. All I need to upgrade for is 2TB storage. I was just going to trade in for another 14” 2TB but now I am so confused like should I get 15” air 2TB.
What is your opinion please? (My only concern is 2TB, can be air or pro)
Thank you! Greetings from Texas! ❤
The 15" is only 8 grams lighter, but its footprint is bigger than the 14" and it will take up more space in a bag. And then with the 15" you have an inferior screen, inferior ram, inferior speakers, and well that's all a step back. Buy an external storage drive and spend the savings on a good-quality monitor.
@@shaun1900 Thank you for your suggestion. I bought 2TB SSD and like you said I will look into a good-quality monitor. 15" Air is so tempting but I am not ready to give up on 14" pro.
@@manalipatel13 I'm resisting the same temptation, Shiny new thigs always suck me in. Resist the temptation M3 will be along soon enough.
Most people who do heavy work already own M1/M2 Ultra.
I’d prefer the 13" but not for only $100 less. I want the 13" with 10 core, 16g, 512gb for $1100 and I’d buy it.
i want it for 700 bucks. lol
You sound giddy 😂
Apple is banging on MBA15 sales to fund VisionPro 😬
This is why they purposely waited until now to introduce MBA15 ...
You mean more like to get rid of all the M2 chips they have from poor sales.

@@GregsGadgets I say it for this: ua-cam.com/video/50QbjaAjy0o/v-deo.html
Correct, my 14inch Lenovo died after I spilled tea on it, before than I had the 15inch macbook pro. I was eyeing the M1/M2 air for a long time but the 13inch screen was just too small for me..... I had been wishing for a 15inch macbook air, I didnt want the pro since it was much much more expensive and also much heavier. Ordered the 15 air right away.
i bought one and the speakers blow the 13.6 speakers away literally
they "literally" blow them away? sorry about that
Very nice video
This MacBook is perfect an I’m shocked at the price
What are the speakers like? There's plenty of space either side of the keyboard for speakers Apple is wasting
I thought this was gonna be $1500 at least.

If it’s not at least 1TB and 16 RAM, I wouldn’t waste my money!! 💯

This normal is happy with my Apple M1 2.6 TFLOPS MacBook Air. Much more power than normals need.
Do not know if the M2 15-inch Apple MacBook Air is in the long run going to be the best selling Apple MacBook laptop. If Apple keeps an entry level Apple MacBook Air around at $ 999.00 US feel that is going to be the best selling laptop for normals.
