I absolutely love looking at old prototype stuff for video games. I've even partly contributed myself with prototype dumps of the CMR games and Wacky Races on the PS1. And there's definitely scratched my itch for the day!
lmao the Tiny Arena Relic Race was hilarious. My PB is still 7 seconds slower than that Platinum. I almost want to try it xD Love watching you exploring/discovering betas and mods, seeing your reactions to it all is wholesome and fun
This could be like an interesting mod to regular CTR, you know, restore how Trophy and Tokens/Coins could be done on the same race, and the changes to how you can progress on the game, wonder how things would be routed in it. The Letters being basically shortcut tutorials is a cool idea that i wish was kept in the regular game, though i could never pull off Blizzard Bluff lake shortcut as a kid, so that might've been impossible for other people too, and maybe that's why they changed most of them to be easier for everyone.
It's interesting that somebody suggested U-turning was available in the Pizza Hut demo. Everything else about that demo suggests that it's just *barely* older than the beta you're playing. The character icons are identical, but the demo has notable differences. The Papu's Pyramid shortcut is much easier to hit in that version because they didn't extend the wall yet, which is something I would imagine they would have extended after introducing U-turning, but apparently not. Clocks and Shields did not exist yet in the Pizza Hut demo but they're present here. This beta has the race start music from the final version whereas the demo had a different music that aligns much better with the Final Lap music you hear in this version.

Kinda wish they kept CTR tokens in with trophies, makes sense for adventure mode and would speed up a 101% playthrough. Also I like some of the harder places they put them like the shortcuts on bluff and papu's

Also when you use the invincible masks, the hit detection is so bad, you bounce to the side when hitting someone. Interestingly for Purple Gem Cup, If you managed to help Pinstripe won at least 2nd-3rd place in the Final Game, somehow the game unable to load Pinstripe's Podium animation, as if they aren't expecting him to win at all, which is interesting lmao
this is so cool! is this the earliest complete beta build ? also this would of made a good hard mode in the final game the way the letters work and all that apart from the relic times i dont know what they were smoking when they made the times .
I dunno, I feel like I personally prefer blue fire over USF. I feel like it puts a spotlight on how important reserves are which is nice because reserves and fire levels are the huge things that I feel sets CTR apart from other kart racers. Plus, it's really fun to get a massive speed boost and then maintain it for as long as possible while still being able to make those tight turns. Then again, what do I know? I'm a fairly casual player

Polar and Tiny actually have their old icons in Early NTSC versions.
