Jack Nicholson wins the Oscar for Supporting Actor for Terms of Endearment at the 56th Academy Awards. Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton present the award.
We never knew just how good Jack was until he retired from acting a long time ago now. Easily in the top ten greatest actors of all time. This was another well deserved Oscar for the Big Man.
We will continue to add favoriate Oscar® moments and will keep all requests in mind. Be sure to subscribe to the channel so that you will always know when new videos have been uploaded. Thanks for your interest.
I Iove that he also acknowledges the other actors nominated for the award. Not many winners do that. This just substantiates why he's in my top five actors of all time. Go Jack! ☺
We tend to say every generation thinks the older times were the best. But I’m not from the generation of this movie, I wasn’t even born when he won this award and I know this was better… and it will never be like this again. I love Jack Nicholson and his collaboration with Jim Brooks, some of the best movies ever. Thank you Mr. Nicholson and Mr. Brooks (like Jack would say ❤️)
My dad and I love quoting his line about "good times, noodle salad" from his later Academy Award winning performance in "As Good as it Gets", though my dad admits that I do a much better impression of Jack than he does, I once even bragged that I could probably do a better impression of him than anyone else in a restaurant where he, myself, his barber, and my mom were eating dinner.
Timothy Hutton deserved the Oscar he got a few years earlier in Ordinary Family. That was perhaps the greatest performance I have ever seen by an actor.
how every character he played in the movies he played them just so perfect!!!? I love and watched many actors and actresses but I never saw actor play his characters so well like him
I'd take Jack over your Robert DeNiros and your Al Pacinos. Why? Because he matches their searing intensity in spades and yet makes you laugh like you've never laughed before in your life. He transcends his profession. Jack, you are my flag. My only fatherland. An inspiration to men the world over - teaching us NEVER to take ourselves too seriously and to come to everything we do with open hearts!
Jack deserved his Oscar for Terms and Cuckoo's Nest. I think Duvall should've won for The Apostle over As Good as It Gets. I also think Jack should've won best supporting actor for A Few Good Men over Gene Hackman in Unforgiven.
well-diseved. I loved that not even knowing it was worth so many Oscars, but was definately thinking it deserved some. Terms of endearments is a classic.
Charles Durning in To Be or Not to Be was entertaining as Colonel Erhard i wish he could win an oscar at his lifetime. He was a very underrated actor.👏🏆✉️
Oh how big a movie was Terms Of Endearment!!!! I have at least double copies of it in DVD, Blueray and PC-file so that's one film I can take with me. As I go.
I saw that alright. Same thing happened when he won for cuckoos nest and for as good as it gets. Jack is just one of those guys who everybody loves. Even the women he cheated on still love him!!!
I agree about Rip Torn. He plays many different roles really well, and even turned in probably the best performance in the recent film August. He will get his Oscar at some point, though, I would say.
Well he's not Ralph Richardson or Lord Olivier but you are right about one thing, his intensity is freakish. I can't think of a role from Five easy pieces to the Joker to Missouri breaks to The shining where whatever Jack does he just lifts the enterprise to a different level. The guy is a true standout.
Playing one role isn't ONE THING... It's many behaviors that you have to capture and you have to do it in the right time and with the right angle... Don't think you know everything...
Funny thing is.... this role was written for Burt Reynolds .He was busy. No from him. Offered to Harrison Ford and Paul Newman. They said no. Different reasons. Jack was 4th on the list.
My favorite line delivery in Terms of Endearment was when Aurora and Garrett are on their date and he says she's going to need a lot of drinks and she asks why and he says "To kill the BUG that is up your ASSah!" 😆
Charles Durning, John Lithgow and Sam Shepard were average nominees. The real supporting actor from 'The Right Stuff' was Ed Harris and the other two nominees should have been Jeff Goldblum from 'The Big Chill' and Jerry Lewis from 'The King of Comedy'.
Though, a great admirer of Mary Tyler Moore’s work. I feel given the prestige of the occasion, she should’ve taken a little breath at the introduction and especially at the point of announcing the winner, just to lend a little suspense. Congratulations Jack Nicholson, well deserved accolade. You will forever be the perennial Legend! Bravo 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
A lot of people say Ray Ban Wayfarers makes people like Jack Nicholson and Billy Joel look cool. WRONG! They make the sunglasses look cool. This is a perfect example of just that.
Timothy was brilliant! He gave one of the best performances I've seen from a male actor in a long time. It was made 28 years ago, and I saw it several months ago. You should check it out! Its really good. Sad! but good. Also! Check out the movie TAPS.
Watched this again on broadcast television (Movies! TV Network) today. Along with many many other key lines, they cut out Nicholson's (Garret) retort, "not much danger in that unless you curtsy on my face real soon". If you plan to see this movie on "Movies! TV Network", you can be assured that it has been hacked all to pieces.
The Oscars are never complete unless Jack Nicholson is in the audience wearing sunglasses.....
Yup!
and he aint there tonight
the-niknak I really miss that!!
the-niknak it's true
true
A man can only dream of being as smooth as Jack Nicholson.
I thought he was incredibly awkward
Plz don't wake me.
I hope I'm half as cool for half as long.
As smooth as he on screen, he looked and sounded as nervous as a deer in the headlights during his speech lol
Right? It made him real. @@lonerunner89
You will NEVER be as cool as Jack!
...or as brain-damaged!
Unless you Di Caprio. He's the only exception
@@84Elenai Not even close.
@@sasarasasarasa you are right. I think I was drunk when I wrote that. My bad, sorry
Brad Pitt?
We never knew just how good Jack was until he retired from acting a long time ago now. Easily in the top ten greatest actors of all time. This was another well deserved Oscar for the Big Man.
His role in About Schmidt was the LEAST Jack Nicholson role I can imagine and he NAILED every moment, both the pathos and the comedy.
I knew how good he was when I was a kid and I saw him as The Joker in Batman. Jack might've been the first movie star I ever recognized by name.
Already 14 years since the last time he appeared in a movie… 🥺
Everyone besides you knew how good he was. He's always been great and always will be remembered so
He's a top five of all time favorite of mine, and my favorite who isn't dead.
There is now and only ever will be one Jack Nicholson EVER. Great Job Jack your a true LEGEND
agree
Always a must watch. I have NEVER seen a bad performance by this man. His legendary performances will live on. God bless you Jack.
You could tell he was going to win judging by the applause he received when he was named as one of the nominees.
No. The applause is for the greatest actor of all time.
Jack has said, when he first read the script and accepted the role, he knew he was going to win an Oscar.
We will continue to add favoriate Oscar® moments and will keep all requests in mind. Be sure to subscribe to the channel so that you will always know when new videos have been uploaded. Thanks for your interest.
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson: The Holy Trinity
And their father brando dont forget mate :)
Marlon brando too
Daniel day lewis
Amen. Top three for sure. Brando is right there.
I love Hopkins also.
When I watch each oscar win, his voice is deeper. I know it's normal, but his voice gets more iconic as he ages.
Secret Agent Michael Lee How does your voice get iconic?
@@bobbuff5421 don't know , but him , Morgan Freeman and Keith David definetly have iconic voices
@@seankelly378 Christopher Walken, Al Pacino and so many more..
I love how that one guy wasn't even there, haha.
Far from the only time that's happened
Reply to me after 11 years it will be funny

@@yelow2979 I tried to wait, but I only made it a year
Jack Nicholson is a national treasure! I've grown up watching a lot of his films over the years and his performances are nothing short of amazing! 😎✌️
That moment when the coolest guy in the room wins.
I Iove that he also acknowledges the other actors nominated for the award. Not many winners do that. This just substantiates why he's in my top five actors of all time. Go Jack! ☺
He's in my top five as well, higher than anyone else alive.
Jack Nicholson is effortlessly COOL :-)

Durning, Lithgow, Jack, Shepard and Rip... all five among my favorite actors, nominated in the same category, the same year. Nice.
I'm so sad we're losing him....love him so very much
@Hemloch There was a delay with the editing of our latest batch of clips but it will be up for sure no later than Friday.

@@rogerdat45 You've noticed too.
I recently got a pair of Ray Ban aviators on discount, and everyone thinks I look like Jack Nicholson in them.
Back when they were happy humble and grateful for their talent.
Gotta love Jack , Only man who can rock the shades at the academys in the 80s and in the 90s lol legendary
Jack's actually pretty nervous up there, stammering and sweating.
Yeah looks like he's panicking a bit. He was probably pretty close to getting some sort of attack but restrained himself perfectly
This guy's voice just amazing

Such a great performance. Well deserved.
This man is the epitome of cool!
Jack always seems uncharacteristiclly nervous and shy when he accepts these awards. It's a little endearing. :)
Terms of Endearment!!!! Ha ha!!!!!😎❤
Timothy Hutton deserved the Oscar he got a few years earlier in Ordinary Family. That was perhaps the greatest performance I have ever seen by an actor.
Anjelica Huston and Meryl Streep at 2:00 :)
And jack daughter
RIP Sam Shepard

John Lithgow for Terms of Endearment... *sound of crickets*.... Jack Nicholson for Terms of Endearment.... *raucous applause*.... poor John lol
You just know Jack had this one in the bag. Just watched Terms of Endearment again recently; much funnier than I remembered.

He did a great job on that movie...all the stars did.
well-diseved. I loved that not even knowing it was worth so many Oscars, but was definately thinking it deserved some. Terms of endearments is a classic.
A well-deserved Oscar for a performance that never fails to make me smile. Here's to Jack Nicholson.
Charles Durning in To Be or Not to Be was entertaining as Colonel Erhard i wish he could win an oscar at his lifetime. He was a very underrated actor.👏🏆✉️
when you see him like this, you realise, it doesnt take a lot of effort for him to act! what an absolute legend. i totally would, even now. woof!
I think Jacks so confident he is actting nervous for the benifit of others
1:21 RIP Rip Torn .
He is creat one of the best performence EVER in this category.
My favourite actors are him and Robert De Niro. De Niro cause he's so versatile and Nicholson cause he picks his roles very well.
Shirley M. and Jack N. Amazing chemistry!! 👏🙂
Oh how big a movie was Terms Of Endearment!!!! I have at least double copies of it in DVD, Blueray and PC-file so that's one film I can take with me. As I go.
OMG you can fell in love with him by just listening to his great sense of humor

man i love his humor
This was the same role he played in 'Something's Gotta Give'
I love how jack can tell hes one just by the reaction of the crowd>>
He always had sunglasses on.
When he's put on the spot, Jack actually seems like quite a shy person which is surprising.
amazing group of actors just for supporting actor
I like Jack's handkiss to Mary Tyler Moore
Playing one role isn't ONE THING... It's many behaviors that you have to capture and you have to do it in the right time and with the right angle... Don't think you know everything...
Good to see Beth and Conrad getting along!
The eyebrows, Chico, they never lie.
I heard Larry McMurtry speak about movies vs. books and he said they wouldn't make the movie without a big male star. But they chose the right ACTOR.
Funny thing is.... this role was written for Burt Reynolds .He was busy. No from him. Offered to Harrison Ford and Paul Newman. They said no. Different reasons. Jack was 4th on the list.
Jack Nicholson, I love you ,you´re the best!

He didn't seem nervous at all when he got his first Oscar, for Cuckoo's Nest. But, yeah, on the rest of occasions he did seem nervous.
