I used to see chiropractors. I thought it's the only way I would get relief. But after I started marathon training, I started seeing physical therapists and it not only fixed the pain I had before, but actually was addressing the cause of the pain - weak muscles in key places. Glad this woman has so much support.

Stress and lack of oxygen to certain parts of the body from holding your breath or not breathing properly as well. I used to be bed ridden because thought my back was out. I discovered it was called TMS. A doctor named John Sarno specialized in it and has videos on youtube. I haven't even had a headache in a year, let alone sore limbs

Her support system, and outlook on life will mean everything. The fact that she said she just feels lucky to be alive shows her positive outlook, which is instrumental in healing.
The downside is, after a while, the mental trauma of it all will probably get to her. Someone needs to set her up in therapy ASAP.
I broke my neck a few years ago, and after all of the physical stuff settled down, the trauma of it all opened a floodgate of emotions. Knowing that your body will never be the same again, and you’re stuck like that is rough. Luckily for me, after two surgeries I was able to walk, move my arms, and eat again, after intense PT, OT, and speech therapy. Still disabled, have trouble eating, and need more surgeries, but also still grateful to be alive. I still had the same positive outlook as her the whole time going through it, and the trauma still hit me like a ton of bricks.
Not to mention going through the lawsuit (they freaking better sue) is mentally taxing, and keeps taking you back to through everything.
This is something they don’t warn you about in the hospital, naturally because they’re focused on the physical healing. I kind of want to find a way to advocate for mental health for people like this, but not sure how.

My 33 year old wife got a routine chiropractic neck adjustment 18 months ago and during the procedure the chiropractor dissected her vertebral artery. She had a stroke on the table and lost movement down the entire right hand side of her body. She spent 4 days in ICU and 3 days in the stroke ward. Was the single most terrifying moment in our lives. Fortunately physically she made a recovery, but still struggles emotionally whenever she thinks of it or hears of stories like this. After doing research, it’s unbelievable how much this happens during chiropractic visits! We will never step foot in another chiropractors clinic and we tell absolutely anyone we can to never take the risk. Our heart goes out to Kaitlyn and her family. We hope she gets through this.

The chiropractor told her everything was normal and that she was fine when she left, and that he had to continue seeing her to alleviate her pain. The chiropractors also make you sign a waiver when you get in to prevent lawsuits, and the ER doctors told us that this happened way to often, where chiropractors in there limited ability make issues worse by hiding the underlying issue or cause multiple strokes or injuries to clients.

From my knowledge, chiropractors don't actually put anything "back into place." They just move the joints in a way that temporarily might relieve discomfort, however it will soon move back into its original spot and cause the person to keep on going to the chiropractor for the same results. It's not treating anything besides pain temporarily

To anyone who cracks their back or goes to chiropractors who have relatively healthy spines..DON'T DO IT..do not crack your back/neck or allow anyone to do it, once it goes wrong you will regret it for the rest of your life. when those idiots crack your neck they would have you believe it is a perfectly precise procedure when there is no possible way they can know exactly what is about to happen

Seen also after accidents where rotational forces on neck cause the same injury.

I’m a neurologist and I ALWAYS tell patients not to get their neck manipulated by a chiropractor. There is a real risk of vertebral artery dissection.
Chiropractors will never admit to this because it affects their bottom line. Sad.

As a RN in a large neuro ICU I can say we always get a few botched chiropractor cases per year. Artery dissection, cord trauma, disc herniations etc. Don't ever tell a spine surgeon you go to a chiropractor. They will lose their s$%t.

for me, my chiropractor realy helps me with it. i dont know about anyone else. but when i leave her practice i feel so much better.
Its such a release i cant explain it. the way she does it, its a relief every single time.

I heard of this happening before after a chiro cracked someone’s neck. But the person died from the ruptured arteries if I remember it correctly. It’s not worth the risk. I’m glad this young lady has all the help and support she needs. Hope she keeps on progressing in her health journey.
