If I was 15 years younger it would have been on my shortlist for sure! I fondly remember buying my first WRX brand new in 2011. Back then it had the wide-body with a 2.5l Turbo and the spinning up of the turbo and the waste-gate whistling when you changed gears was just intoxicating! Well engineered and fun car if you're looking for something a bit different to the norm. The All-wheel drive and the sound of the boxer engine is a huge plus! Nice to see that the WRX has also grown up, but it certainly aged better than me! Nice review, thank you.
One of the biggest mistakes auto makers are making is phasing out manual transmissions. Some of us actually like shifting gears. I want to control what gear the car must be in, not the car deciding for itself. For example they shift up, when we want to shift down. Long live the manual gearbox. ☺👋👍
I had a 2.5 STi, in black back in the day...it drank fuel like a hobo from Mitchell's Plain but a tank of fuel then was cheaper than a mortgage payment...went even better when you added octane booster with every tank of fuel...many arguments happened between myself and my boss over my monthly fuel bill...(I was a rep in Jhb back then...)
This just makes me think one word... Meh. Even a limited number of sti's & some kind of sportiness (& not a f! CVT gearbox) would help. Pity, cos I'm probably their target market.
Here in Australia they have the same drivetrain in the wrx Sportswagon. No longer a Levorg over here. I picked up my TS wagon a few weeks ago and find it good.
07:00 ...we are not getting an STI version but they send us an STI steering wheel? Did someone fuck up at the factory or worse, illuminati confirmed? lol
Wish they gave Ash a proper track rather to test this one. Would have liked to hear his thoughts on the CVT there. Everyone one else so far in reviews had the manual. People really hate on CVTs, but in the real world, if you daily a car like this, that Subaru CVT is a dream. Wish we knew what one is like if you really get going though..
It's a pity that Subaru aren't bringing put an STI version of the new WRX. The New WRX has very stiff competition and is competing with it's German rivals. Also the performance isn't that outstanding. It's well specved and represents good value for money.
It was really funny to see Ash struggling to find the words to justify the production of this car, especially at that price point for such little power. Its not like it was reengineered to be much lighter to justify the power to price, Subarus used to be fun powerful cars... sad that its a fading "legacy"
I absolutely hate those wheel arches. Gives it a poverty spec low end look. Subaru has lost the Subaru'ness. We will miss that loud thumping Subaru sound that can't be mistaken for anything. Now it just looks like a fake civic.
Great review but I wish they make an sti version because the car seems blend to me its not the best at anything particularly now that we have a gr yaris but am really impressed that the interior particularly looking at the fact that I used to hate subaru's interior.
As a big Subaru fan and having owned a WRX before.. unfortunately I have to agree with you! I hate the plastic coverings around the wheel arches and the lack of engine sound.
I hope people buy this thing. We need diversity on our roads. I'm tired of seeing GTIs and crossovers
Change starts with you
Yes
I WILL 👌💪👍😉
These bloody crossovers are the reason we aren’t getting cars like the new Focus ST and RS in South Africa
For 850K I'm sorry
You know Ash, your reviews have become more comfortable your in your own stride now. If the company will allow it, you should really do more

Normally there's two modes to deactivating traction control. Pressing vs holding down the button for a few seconds.
im pretty sure the traction control is just trying to stop the cvt exploding, so the manual should be more fun
6:36 the steering badge says STi… confusing.
I was wondering too
The gearbox and suspension is tuned by STI division.
Great Review Ash! 😄. I personally hope the Toyota GR Corolla comes to SA next year.
Just got one last week. It's amazing
How is it day to day? And how is it on enthusiastic drives?
Nice review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I've had 5 scoobies, modded and stock, WRX, STi and Fozzies. This just isn't a subaru to me. Feels more like a Toyota, than a scooby
I like this new guy... :P

Press and hold TC button for 5 sec to disengage completely
Well at least that's how it works on the previous model
This just makes me think one word... Meh.

My heart just sank when I heard CVT
Wow, this review is far, far more damning then any scathing rant. He really wanted to like this thing...

I don't know why anyone would want to get a WRX automatic when the manual is so much more fun to drive.
Good stuff! Please test the imprezia sedan . More my priceclass

The words "grown up" was really used liberally ...it's not grown up, it's white bread. It's basic. It lost its soul. Can't wait for the Carrolla GR
AWESOME !!!
I WANT ONE 😎👍💪💫

Great review... Didn't think you'd cover the practicality part of the car😂😂😂
Lekker here in the West Coast neh 😁 you guys must invite us when you at Saldanha again
No STIs... :'(
Are you talking about the car or the infection?
I think the new Honda RS is a slightly better buy, cant wait for the review of her
It has far less power and is front wheel drive. It's not competing with this. RS is just authentics.
Best Subaru
850k 🤣
wrx or s3
Aaw, these days S3 for the win!
I absolutely hate those wheel arches. Gives it a poverty spec low end look. Subaru has lost the Subaru'ness. We will miss that loud thumping Subaru sound that can't be mistaken for anything. Now it just looks like a fake civic.
I saw it for the first time yesterday. It looks ugly.
Now ... it's a sophisticated gas guzzler 🤔
Really enjoyed the video. Wish you would stretch your videos to 30 minutes.
With that price I'd rather buy a pre owned 340i
Stopped watching as soon as you mentioned CVT.
Very nice looking car, but Subaru lost my money with the CVT gearbox! 👎
Great review but I wish they make an sti version because the car seems blend to me its not the best at anything particularly now that we have a gr yaris but am really impressed that the interior particularly looking at the fact that I used to hate subaru's interior.
STI’s coming… just won’t be an ICE car, sadly.
Giving me Honda Civic varbs
Long story short: Old toppie car that wants to drive gravel. Slowly.
Am i the only one who sees a corolla here
i30N
It looks tame
It was a miss from Subaru
Oh my god .....never in my life would i belive a WRX would sell for 850 000
Or a golf for Piets sake! Or a even bakkie! There is no value to be found in cars anymore.
300k overpriced, it won't sell well
Sounds disappointed 😔
No more sti
Worst WRX ever !!
As a big Subaru fan and having owned a WRX before.. unfortunately I have to agree with you! I hate the plastic coverings around the wheel arches and the lack of engine sound.
@@notowaranywhere5721 not to mention the looks of the overall car and size
cvt lol
But it looks like crap and sounds like crap. And it's slower than a Hyundai i30N. You won't see people buying this nonsense
Subaru have fallen so far, its revolting 🤮
Don't waste your time with this car, get a Hyundai 130N
