We installed a lawn drain with a sump pump on a house in College Station Texas where there was no way to get the water out of the lawn except to pump it up hill. C&C Lawn has installed many drains in our area with great success. Call us if you need and drainage work performed in your lawn. 979-412-3624 Bryan Texas College Station Texas

I never thought about the check valve on the other side of the box. Sure makes it easier to use a standard size drain box. Just subscribed.

Yes u can use a standard size drain box 12x12 in this case just depends how much water your dealing with. Check valve in separate box no problem. Mounts vertical or horizontal in this case. Getting into 18 basins are pricing but needed in some applications. Using a smaller basin you have to adjust the pump depending on the water your dealing with to keep it from cycling on and off too much. We pretty much use a pump basin in all applications. This case there was a challenge to have one installed due to concrete slab left below grade. There was enough volume between basins and pipe to allow pump to cycle correctly.

Would you mind saying which sump you're using here, if you happen to remember the size or where you got it? I need to do pretty much exactly what you've done but I can't seem to find any sumps with a grate on top large enough to hold a pump.

Just a thought. I think the check valve needs to be mounted in a vertical position.

They seem to work both ways. Haven't had issues mounted either way. Larger basins we will mount vertical. Smaller ones like this job we did horizontal enclosed in its own valve box.

Can you tell us what basin you used and where you got it?

Now that this is 4 years old, wondering how hard it was to cut that pump out for service/replacement because you didn't use a flex hose to connect it to the discharge pipe?

Pump hasn't been removed in that whole time. Some still going about 6 years before really having to remove. We never use flex hose in a pump install. We will put a quick connect coupler on the discharge line in the basin for pump removal. We may not have stuck one on here, but it would be installed if we had to cut the discharge pipe. Not hard to cut PVC. The way we design the system the catch basins "catch" most debris before hitting the pump pit where the pump is. This actually is a large catch basin which I don't like to do since it doesn't have volume of water, but this situation the water level in the yard keeps the pump going long runs. But no not hard to make a cut on the PVC discharge if needed, then install quick coupler.

Did you cut the end of the drop cord off so it would go through the 3/4 conduit? And then make your wire connection inside the junction box? I love UA-cam - great ideas abound!

No we cut the end going to our pump and fed the wire through. We used a junction at the basin and made water tight connections. We use pump wire in bulk sized for each job. This outdoor cord was rated for the amps needed and length from source and we went this route only to keep it within the clients budget. Another water tight enclosure at plug behind AC unit. You want to make sure you have these pumps tied to a circuit all their own, As stated in instructions on a lot of pumps Ive seen. They will trip breakers if not sized correctly or trip overload outlets that control other appliances on the circuit.

Appreciate the information. We don't do much drain work but this may make it easier than using the larger round containers.

Hi there; this is a really nice job. How much did this install cost? Do you have any partners you can recommend that service northern NJ?

I want to say 4-5k but we had to Bore under drive with that added cost . We use larger pump basins now but this was a complete up hill battle with water but it is still going strong. I can check if I know someone in your area. I’ll be in touch and thanks for watching

This is an 18x18 NDS drain basin. Site One, Ewing Irrigation, or maybe even Lowes or Home Depot will have it.

Pump won’t last. Basin way too small and pump will be overwhelmed.

This is a smaller basin but the minimum the pump requires. Usually use a pump pit. Have to see why we didn't here there was a reason, its been 4 years or more and pump still going. But yes we use pump pits 99% of the time. This corner of yard sees a lot of water.
