amazing =) I just purchased the same kayak, because of your great videos. Thank you.
You’re welcome, Thank you for watching.
Nice video. Definitely appreciate the detail on how to do the install with the mount. I currently have mine setup with a stern mount trolling motor using your prior videos. I have a foot steering system to control it with a pwm. It works great, but you do have to be seated to steer. I can set course and speed and fish standing up for a bit. I may eventually switch to a bow mount setup though. Thank you for the video and the details!
You’re welcome. I use to have to sit down also with the stern mount trolling motor that was the reason I wanted to do a bow mount trolling motor. I appreciate you watching.
Great install! Looks awesome. Very clean setup.
Thank you, I really appreciate it.
After watching this is ditched the 30lb and went to a 55lb thrust. Thanks for the help!
Glad I could help. I appreciate you watching.
Thanks for taking the time to show us brother, looks great
Thank you for watching. I appreciate the kind feedback.
@@334tacticaloutdoors Brother I finally got my Xi3 this past weekend and referenced your videos for all my guidance getting it mounted and squared away. Looks great and was a breeze thanks to you.
That’s awesome to hear. I’m glad my video was easy enough to understand and able to help. Thank you for letting me know.
Nice mods!! I’m definitely thinking about getting this yak! Keep the content coming!
Thank you. I appreciate good feedback.
Really nice build. Great job!!
Thank you!! I really appreciate it.
What's next is some Automatic Rod and Reel Controllers, and next thing you know, you just send the kayak out in the morning and by lunch, it comes back and brings you the fish.
Lol that might work for some, but I enjoy getting that bite way to much for me not to go.
Your work is so very clean, nice to see such details to installs. You should start your own business!
Thank you for the generous compliment.
Great tutorial man. You’ve just convinced me to buy this boat. I’m going to play around without a motor for a while but good to see we have these options.
Thank you. You will not be disappointed with your purchase. I have another modification I’ve added to this kayak, I’m hoping to have the video posted tomorrow if you wanna check back I believe it will make you enjoy the purchase more.
@@334tacticaloutdoors Absolutely; I definitely will! I think I’ll binge a few of your other videos tonight. 😁
@@334tacticaloutdoors And BTW, I just ordered it. Will be here next week!

@@SavageFlies that’s awesome!!
Nice video, thank you. I've watched so many other great videos showing how to mount on the rear but this looks closer to my technical level (I'm a computer guy mostly!) Looking forward to getting my kayak and something like this on it.
You’re welcome, let me know if you need my advice while doing the install.
Where are you located?
Salem, Al
Love the yak bro keep up the good work👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇👍👍👍👍
Thank you!! I appreciate it.
You are a life saver
Thanks, glad I could help you out.
The installation of a rudder will improve its handling and turning. They are cheap, and easy to use and install on the Outlaw!
Thanks for the info.
I really love this video! What gauge wire did you use to run your trolling motor battery in the back? I've been looking into doing this for my outlaw and this is the best video I've found!
I recommend 8 gauge wire and 8gauge wire plugs. That’s what I run and I’ve never had any issues. Thank you and if you have any questions just let me know.
subscribed! nicely done! i been trying to find an outlaw and there hard to find around here.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching and the feedback. A lot of kayaks are getting hard to find.
Nice work
Thank you, I really appreciate it.
That's the ultimate fishing kayak for sure,I bet all that together was expensive
Thank you, well the kayak was $825.00, trolling motor $689.00, fish finder $499.00, and battery and accessories $250.00 so all together this set-up is $2264.00. Just start little by little.
I think that is so cool
Thank you, I really appreciate it.
awesome build!!
Thank you, I really appreciate it.
was it hard to install the screws on the inside?
It wasn’t to bad. Once you install the deck plate you can reach in there fairly easy.
thanks for the replies! and this great video!! definitely going to save up for the equipment todo this to my outlaw. also with the fish finder do you have any glare issues with it being on the water?
@@jamiehov9350 no the screen on the Garmin is fantastic and also easy to see even when the sun beaming on it.
Great video! I wanna do the same thing with mine. Just wondering if you have a video on how you wired it to the battery through the hull
I don’t have a video on it, but I have deck plates so when I drilled holes where the trolling motor plug is I just fished it through to the rear tank well where I had another hole drilled where my SAE connector was being placed. Now my wires are run through a 5/8” clear tubing to keep them dry and it makes it easy to push the wires from the bow to the stern.
I have the outlaw and considering installing the xi3. Wanted to see if you've run into any issues since the install or any new recommendations since you've installed. Thanks great vid
I’ve had absolutely no issues just offset the weight of the trolling motor with a battery in the rear tankwell. I can assure you want be disappointed with the XI3 on the outlaw.
I’ve been looking for a video exactly like this. Thank you so much for your explanation of everything! Can’t wait to make mine just like yours! Does yours have the GPS function?
Thank you for watching, I’m glad it has helped. When I first bought the trolling motor it didn’t have GPS I added it on later. And I can tell you it’s a great add on to this kayak.
@@334tacticaloutdoors just purchased the Xi3 from bass pro because of the military discount. Can’t wait!
@@paint3ball you’re gonna love it. Quick peice of advice the remote control has 4 screws on the back they only take a small turn to get tight do not over tighten them you will strip them out.
@@334tacticaloutdoors I truly appreciate all tips as I’m new to all of this. What storage box did you use for your batteries? Also, what fish finder did you go with and why?
@@paint3ball I use the Garmin Echomap 73sv fish finder it’s reasonably priced and easy to use. And I use the Hart storage tool box if you’ll watch the video of my fully rigged perception outlaw and go to the description you’ll see everything that’s on it.
Yessss thank you sir
I appreciate u watching. Thank you for the feedback.
Looks awesome! How do you think that setup would work on the saltwater flats?
As long as you balanced it out correctly it would work great.
I want to install a different bow mount to run my Autoboat GPS system. How did you visualize the bolts on the install of your mounting plate? It seems like the deck plate is a bit far back and not in line of sight to install the bolts. Did you do it by feel? I’m nervous about that… thanks for the video, subscribed!
All you can do is measure the inside of the hull from where u install the deck plate to the very front of the bow. Then you can get the measurement on top of the bow the biggest thing don’t get to close to the very front of the bow, make sure you have room to get bolts through and the washer and nuts on. Just get close as you can it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Awesome videos! I purchased my outlaw because of your review ! I want to do the motor guide set up eventually . Is there anyway we could get a video of you standing up and using the motor guide ?
Thank you!! This is truly a great kayak and yes I will film a video tomorrow on 9-8-22 and upload it I’ll comment back here to let you know it’s uploaded.
I tried to shoot a video today, but is has rained all day here. I will get a video uploaded soon as I can. Sorry I couldn’t get it up today.
@@334tacticaloutdoors no worries man that’s how it was here in north Tx past couple weeks.. look forward to the video!
Awesome outcome. I also have the outlaw and don’t want to put trolling motor on the stern. Thanks for the insight. Was it hard to bolt down mount through access hole
No it was fairly simple. That deck plate gives just enough room to get your arm into it.
@@334tacticaloutdoors Thanks, my name’s Fred. I reside in the Central Valley of California and also create videos through UA-cam. I thought it was a great buy at $749.00 in 2022 and got it. I was fortunate to get it here and I have a couple stories that will back that. I’ve been watching your videos all day trying to make my next move. I could get a stern mount nice system but want a bow mount like you
Well Fred, I’m Joey, thanks for watching the videos. I think you having a bow mount would be the best way to go, having the Outlaw it’s so easy to stand and fish that’s why I went with a bow mount cause I didn’t wanna be restricted to sitting for trolling motor operation. On the outlaw you do have to counterbalance the weight when using a bow mount trolling motor.
I have an outlaw just like you and I was wondering if you recommend putting the trolling motor in the back on the back plate or on the front
If you’re wanting stand and fish the most, I would definitely go with a bow mount trolling motor. If you sit and fish the most, then go with a stern mount trolling motor. I stand and fish the entire time I’m out that’s why I have a bow mount trolling motor.
What battery do you use? Do you use a fuse at all? I've been researching and some videos say to use a fuse and others don't so I just wanted to know your opinion. Thank you
I use a full size everstart agm marine battery. I used it for weight on counterbalancing the bow mount trolling motor. I only use fused links on my fish finder. I always suggest one for the trolling motor cause it protects it, but I don’t use one.
How many running hours do you get on the battery and do you just recharge it? I’ve been looking at buying this exact kayak for crappie and bass fishing around northwest Alabama.
I get about 11 running hours. I charge my batteries on a battery maintainer after every trip out.
Question, I put the same 4 inch deck plate on mine but man I cannot reach my arm in far enough to try and rachet bolts down on the inside. Any advice or specific tools you used?
I had the same issue what I did is remove the hatch and tighten all your bolts down and do everything you need to get done then put the hatch back on.
Why do you have 2 wire ports going to the battery? Is one for your fish finder? I want to use just one battery for both electronics but I have read that it may cause issues. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes one port is the trolling motor the other is for the fish finder. It’s best to use separate batteries for electronics and for trolling motors. I use a mightymax 18ah battery for my fish finder it cost $37 bucks.
Bro you should be doing this on the side you would make a killing on this install.
Thank you, I make these videos to help everyone out.
What size deck plates do you have for the middle and back?
It’s 5” deck plates in the middle and on the rear. It’s a 4” on the front.
Cool vid. Just purchased a trolling motor for my Outlaw yesterday. And just cut my cutting board to fit transom. Now just gotta figure out a battery. Not sure what's the best for trolling hours out on lake. 🤷♂️
Thank you, I used a full size marine battery on my outlaw for the weight distribution.
@@334tacticaloutdoors How many hrs you get out of it? I guess that varies on how much you use it while on water.... AND what speed you're using too.
If you want just a small but very good battery this is what I use on my lifetime Yukon kayak it’s the Everstart ES-TX30LA. Is weights 18lbs.
@@NorthWoodsWes yes it all requires how much you use it, 7-9 hours easily though.
@@334tacticaloutdoors 7-9 hrs for the battery you just suggested ? Or different one
Another quick question, what did you use to attach your cord to the upper have of the xi3 in order to pull it back or lower it down?
To keep my xi3 removable I used a carabiner and drilled a hole in release of the xi3 and attach the carabiner each time I put the xi3 on.
@@334tacticaloutdoors apologies I mean the upper part, did you just use a clamp and if so what size?
I used one of these and stretched it open and tied the rope around the bolt.

Hello, I mistakenly purchased the 54" Xi3 for my boat. I can't return it. I would like to be able to use it on my outlaw. Will it be possible with the space up front?
You can cut the shaft down on the xi3.
ua-cam.com/video/SrE9BTEg5PM/v-deo.htmlsi=pxn_Oh9QB_QX1-0Y
Sorry if you already answered this question. Was there a performance issue for deciding on the bow mount instead of the stern mount?
I wanted to be able to stand and fish and the bow mount trolling motor allowed me to do so. When you stern mount you have to either use pedal steer or a tiller handle either way it doesn’t make standing to fish east or possible.
@@334tacticaloutdoors Thank you for the prompt response. Does the remote not work as well in the stern mount because there is interference with the signal?
Bow mount trolling motors aren’t meant to be mounted on the stern. And stern mount trolling motors doesn’t come with remote steering
Are you close to North Alabama? I have the same model Kayak and I have been looking at this exact motor system. Would you be interested in modifying mine similarly?
I’m in east alabama in Opelika,Al if you willing to get it to me I can get it done for you.
Question. I installed the 5" deck plate in the center and stern of my perception outlaw. And the 4" on the front as you did, but I can't reach the front to tighten the bolts for the cutting board mount on the front. How did you reach them with the 4 inch deck plate instead of a 5 ". And I'm just a little guy no massive arms lol
I had to remove the deck plate to install the bolts for the mounting bracket. It’s a really tight fit. The hole with the deck plate out is just big enough to get your arm in to reach the bow.
@@334tacticaloutdoors 10-4 thank you, I hadn't tried that yet.
@seekhimoutdoors6825 you’re welcome
How do you like the remote? Does it get in the way when you're trying to fish? would you rather a foot control? Thanks
I actually love it. It’s very responsive and no it doesn’t get in the way.
@@334tacticaloutdoors thanks for the info
@@ELECTRICEYE1776 you’re welcome
What size bolts did you use to mount it?
@@AlleyCatPro24 it was 2” x 1/4” Allen head bolts to mount the bow plate down.
What is the trolling motor called and how fast does it go
It’s the Motorguide XI3 36” shaft 45lb thrust and it runs about 4-41/2 mph.
How does this compare to the bonafide ss127 ?
Stability is the same on both kayaks. The biggest difference between the 2 is the Bonafide is 1’ longer, has more built in storage, but cost $650 more. The outlaw does have more open deck space and is practically an open canvas for any modifications. Both of the kayaks are awesome to have.
Do you find having the garmen thst far forward hard to reach? I can't tell how tall you are.
No not at all, but I stand and fish the entire time I’m out. The only time I sit is long moves or to tie new baits. But it’s really easy to still reach from sitting you do have to lean forward, but not much.
@@334tacticaloutdoors thanks for the quick reply. I really like the trolling motor setup. How much thrust is that one?
@@emmettbowen4431 it’s a 45lb thrust.
HI, IM FROM SOUTH ALABAMA! HOW LONG WILL THAT BATTERY LAST ON AVERAGE FISHING? IM WANTING TO ADD A TROLLING MOTOR TO MY SETUP MAINLY BECAUSE MY KNEES DONT LIKE PEDDLING THE FINS.
I run a full size agm deep cycle marine battery and it last me all day. If you want/need a longer lasting battery you can go to lithium 100ah battery and it’ll last for 2 or more in most cases.
@@334tacticaloutdoors WOW, THANKS!

What exactly is the clamp you used for pulling the motor up and securing it???
That’s just a trolling motor adjustment.

@@WV_Opie anytime, if you ever have anymore questions just ask.
So would I be good just getting a 1 inch poly granite board
You can just make sure it’s over 1/2” due to getting it high enough for the quick release handle to slide out.
@@334tacticaloutdoors awesome would that be 2 pieces of 1/2” board stacked on top or just a single 1” board though
It takes 1/2” just to get to the top yes just one 1/2” peice should be good you just gotta be careful some HDPE says 1/2” but comes nearly 7/16”.
How long can you fish with that battery using spot lock and other features?
I use a full size marine battery. I stay out between 8-10 hours and still have over a half of charge. If it’s a extremely windy day it will come down to about a half of battery.
@@334tacticaloutdoors sweet! I just mounted the XI3 on my outlaw today.
@@fatcatfishing7087 super nice. you will enjoy every moment of it. When you put it in the water you’ll see why the need for a full Size battery in the back is important for the counterweight

I’m 155lbs so you’re on 55lbs more there shouldn’t be very much difference on the ride height.
Could you explain how you connected the battery to the connection that goes inside of the haul. Thanks.
That’s SAE connections. The female end is what attaches to the kayak and the male end is what plugs into that.
Are they 8awg?
Yes the trolling motor SAE is 8awg and the fish finder is 12awg
