What do you think he was more concerned about, the priceless bottle or his one of a kind ship?
@@joecolman1968 Definitely the ship, no doubt.
For such situations, especially with vessels made of composite or fiberglass hulls, they made structures especially for such moments. Instead of breaking the hullwork, making for costly delays, or even ruining the ship, the steel structure would take the brunt of the blow.
IMO, a jinx that she didn't break the bottle.
And Adama almost had a heart attack.
Recent events call that comparison into question.
That moment Laura tried to swing the bottle like it was a normal metal ship.
Now that’s comedy done right!
I also think it was because that probably was the last bottle of champagne in the universe, and they wanted to drink it. But I do agree, a nice comedy scene.
Though, they might have been wanting to save the last bottle of Champagne in the Universe for actual Human consumption. ;)

Call me a fucking marshmallow, but this show had so many moments that were so beautiful that I was put to tears. This was one of those moments.

That’s the power of perfect writing, in which the viewers can become so invested in the characters to the point where emotional scenes like these can leave an enormous impact. Regardless of how many times you’ve seen it, regardless of whether or not you know what happens afterwards, and sometimes, regardless of whether you’ve even seen the show at all. It’s absolutely flawless.

because eithier that little gasp was legit and we felt it or she nailled her acting,

Given the standard of the people on the show and behind the scene's I could believe eithier without hesitation
Legitimately felt like the writers had another plan for the scene but the actors decided to improv. I imagine it was a legit secret but one the cast wanted to make genuine
I love how Apollo gets flustered/panicked/stressed out every time he and Starbuck are out in space together (whether in vipers or in one case, a raider).

Oh I can't wait for this ship to play a long and meaningful role in the fleet's journey to Ear... Oh on 2 eps and it's destroyed faster than a Raptor on Friday... Sure, whatever.
To be fair though, it kinda saved all their asses. Do to its capabilities it allowed Kara to do the recon mission on the cylons and return with the footage to the fleet. Without it there would have been two fewer battlestars and 1 Admiral and 1 Commander around ^^

Honestly, looking at the rest of the show, the Blackbird really would've been out of place. It was limited to its stealth/recon role and any scenario that popped up where it could be used could also easily be filled by a Raptor.
Plus, Apollo needed to have consistency.
Blackbird, destroyed.
Pegasus, destroyed.
Girlfriend, dead.
Dad, gone.
Starbuck, dead/gone.

Hard as hell to see on TRADIS (their version of Radar). He never said anything about "hard to see with your bare eyes".

Mary captured Laura's shock perfectly - Laura really had no idea that they actually respected & even liked her.
She didn't know it was going to be named "Laura". Her shock was genuine.
Completely forgot the very rare genuine smile that Tigh makes in this scene.
It was nice for Starbuck to finally fly a Viper type that was as insubordinate as she was! 😆👍
I loved the scene where Chief Tyrol unveils the name. I get choked up too.
As a vet and watching this series again vs when I was in high school and a civilian, it's interesting to me they chose to point out how a how they say "commander on deck" juxtaposed with Adama and Laura on deck but it's Adamants who tells them they don't have to stand at attention anymore. It less pomp and circumstance to me. Civilians tend to always just say "thank you for your service" and just hold the military up at this highest standard when the rolls should be reversed.
Reminds me of the motion pictures taken during the war (ww2) of aircraft plant workers signing the last fighters and bombers to rol Ioff the production lines. I saw one of Boeing workers signing the 10,000th B-17 built and Grumman workers signing the last F6F Hellcat to roll off the assembly line in Bethpage Long Island.... I think Republic aviation in Farmingdale also held one for a P 47 Thunderbolt paid for entirely by the sale of warbonds....I think she was named "city of Hewlitt"? I guess the Galactica was also the "skunk works"....LOL!
There’s more genuine emotional depth, character, superb writing and humanity in these few minutes of Battlestar Galactica than in the whole of Star Trek Picard and Star Trek Discovery.

Moment when Roslin tried to smash bottle on ship wasn't in script. Actress did that as a joke and everyone stopped her. Those "Nooooo, stop." was because she nearly destroyed props. You can see Olmos hiding his laugh under hand. You can see that 4:25 and 4:30 were different takes as on first he is smiling when camera is cut, but in next shot he is not.
Did Mary explain that? Would love to see it!!
I wonder who owns the Black Bird prop ship? I know much of the shows props were auctioned off not long after filming of the show finished.
Bet either the actors of Apollo or Starbucks bought it

I love the beginning scene but in our house for some reason when Kara says “Good call, Helo!” we all bust out laughing. It was so awkwardly placed.
Superior show to Star Wars. I loved and looked forward to every episode.
Great series on its own, really too low of a bar if u refer to modern SW or even NuTrek.
Keeping up with the Kardashians is superior to Soy Wars.

Its funny how Starbuck,the pilot whose always in the brig,the one always at odds with her superiors,the one who picks fights literally at the drop of a hat,the one who,by virtue of her being a *her* ,usually can be counted on to bring her fighter back in one piece, more or less 🤔 😏 😉
This has to be one of if not the most uplifting scene in the series

This was one of the moments that turned out so well. beaten to the point of giving up. he thought he was loosing it and then came up with this. Just a shame he didn't get to fly it.
This isn't acting its real I felt like the people in battlestar galactica real used their rela emotions for moments like this best TV series of all time

There's some question of can this thing handle being shot out of a launch tube, the thrust gravity of firing those engines, can a pilot control it given its weight? That sort of thing. Yes, yes, and yes-the best can, barely.
Seriously, you can put thrusters, (or cans of URPSY-COLA) on a cement block, and 'fly' it in Space !
Gods, the writing was strong then!
Imagine if they would have kicked in manufacturing into overdrive and built a ton more! Invincible. Easily would have finished off the war.

Lack of materials. Then Pegasus shows up with her fabrication equipment but she still couldn't make a Laura class.
while a cool idea the design is incredibly unstealthy especially from the front far too many straight reflective edges

Could there be such a thing as stealth in space? Seems like it would light up no matter what they tried.
Yes, actually. Coated in material that doesn't reflect the signals used for the Dradis systems to prevent being spotted via active scans and keeping to thrusters and minimal use of engines whenever possible around hostile craft to avoid passive scans picking up the engine flares. You aren't going to be using it as a stealth fighter the way F-22s and F-35s are in the modern day, but it makes for a perfect scout craft. This isn't even the only time we see such a craft. In flashbacks to the first Cylon War, we see the Stealthstar, a proper stealth Viper deployed to spy on the Cylons prior to the outbreak of the first war.
