Thanks for your comments Mark. Perhaps in [potential] future videos you could show some more details closer up? Ie. soles, welts, stiching etc. What type of products do you use to maintain them?
MEKKANNOID Thanks for the feedback. Had the same thoughts - need to invest in a camera stand as it’s difficult to hold the shoe in one hand and the phone in the other. I might reshoot this video in the future.
just bought a pair of Aldwich at Loake cheltenham, mahogany. Great value, formal, classic shoes. Use Sapphir shoe polish for mirror finish. But for country walking, Trickers goodyear welted command soled shoes cannot beaten.
Thanks for sharing this video much appreciated. you helped me make a decision. I've just purchased a pristine pair still boxed Loake 1880 Aldwych in black. same as yours in the video....Hey...£60 What a result. Beltin eh. Anyways thanks for sharing.😂
These are the mahogany. The burgundy seems to be a bit more popular and is unquestionably a striking shade and very versatile. I occasionally wonder if I made the right choice but the important thing is that I wear these a lot and the mahogany works for me.
Hey there! Thanks so much for making this video! I’m a US customer interested in the Aldwych cap toe you’ve reviewed, but I’m having a bit of trouble deciding on a proper size. I usually wear a US 10D in dress shoes which is a 1/2 size larger than my tennis shoe size. You mentioned that the last for which the Aldwych is based on is a bit generous so, should I get these in a UK8.5/US9.5 or should I stick to my normal dress shoe size of UK9/US10? Thanks!!
Jherome Dias I think the width is fairly generous compared to others I have tried and the toe is slightly elongated so they’re not a tight fit. Always hard to gauge the correct sizing on an untested last though. With oxfords I tend to err on the side of slightly larger due to the closed lacing. If you have the option of returning them you could try the smaller size first.
I think that’s a second price increase since bought these? Cheaney, C&J and Church’s have also all increased their prices. C&J mainline was < £400 a few years ago, now £445.
Ive been looking at getting my first pair of Loake shoes and your video has really helped...Thank you so much!

Jherome...I would go for a UK 9.They are a generous fit. They toe is rather eleongated for that extra bit of room.
wow - a pair of Aldwych now costs £265!!!
