  • Stripping down the old door top and fitting the glass into the new galvanized frame for my Series Three.
    There are various different ways of doing this job and you could spend a lot more time on it, pre drilling the screw holes, using window putty tape or rubber strips as some have.. Some rivet the channels and window catches, what ever works for you and the finish required for your vehicle. This is just intended as a very rough guide, by no means definitive!

    Thanks for that Phil - bit daunting when you strip the door top and leave it for some time before re-assembling - that helped a lot.

    Thanks for this Phil. I was half way through mine but getting confused about gaps and shims so took a break to watch this which really helped. Thanks again Mike.

    Dude! I just got my s3 going after a year and a bit (bad ground) only to discover one of the door tops had rotted out.
    Get back inside and you've uploaded this video!
    Coincidence? I think not!

    does help a lot thanks. What type and size of screw do you use? Because the glass will be running over them.

    Thanks for the video. I am not familiar with LRs, there is something I couldn't understand. As far as I understand, front part of the sliding glass is movable like the rear part. How is it that the window catch can prevent the movement of the glass in front?

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  2 роки тому +1

      No, the front piece of glass is stationary/ fixed on the normal type of windows. There is a type of door top fitted to military Land Rovers which does have sliding front and rear panes however.

    If you don’t mind me asking when you first got it who were you insure with ? As I’m looking to get mine on the road soon

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  4 роки тому +1

      Adrian Flux, but they were the only insurer who would cover me, I was 19 at the time. Give "Classic Line Insurance" a call, you'll find them very helpful.

      @@machiningbasics1729 You will probably find it difficult to get a classic policy, but well worth shopping around. I think my first years insurance was about £1500 for 3k miles, which hurt! Now on a classic policy and £200 for 10k miles. You just have to suffer it to begin with..

      @@machiningbasics1729 Could give HAGERTY in surance a ring , been with them for several years now , no problems whatso ever . Had many years with Adrian Flux in fact not long after he first started with classic insurance , but as the years rolled along the premiums went up even with no claims .

    Thanks for the tutorial, cheers, did you use the standard window channel, thank you,

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  2 роки тому

      No problem, I did use the standard window channel - it's ok but for a vehicle that lives outside all year, it probably has a five year life.

      Hi, I'm thinking of replacing the door rubber seals on my series 3, what do you reckon to the all one piece, thank you 👍

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  2 роки тому

      @@kevinbodnar448 Hi Kevin, they certainly were an improvement over the knackered originals I had - if memory serves, the Britpart seals I bought had to be cut to get a proper fit, the top section was over length. My Rover is completely weather tight so they must be alright!
      Phill.
