It should sound similar to this, as the 5150 and the Soldano themselves aren't that far apart in sound and architecture. Or so they say.

FINALLY somebody that goes into this rabbit hole properly, really hyped for this series, much respect!👏👏👏
i would love to hear a 5150 with a rectifier i heard they sound good together
also would be cool to hear the 2 amps in mono, so for example you could have 2 performances played with 2 different combination of amps in a single mix

I think the 5150 and rectifier might be the most popular combo, 5150 has that super direct upper midrange, rectifier has the lows, and both have a shitload of gain pardon my French

Hi Rabea, some troubleshooting tips for the ground loop(s):
First of all, what’s the exact signal path? Is it guitar > pedalboard > split out to both amps? Anything in the fx loops of each amp? I’m assuming the pedalboard can lift the ground on one of the outputs going to the front ends of the amps.
The first thing i’d try is run both heads through real cabs and eliminate the load boxes and see if you get ground loop hum like this. Using the Lehle or any other iso box/hum destroyer device in line on either side, you can ground lift either of the lines going into the front end of each amp to see if this removes any hum at this stage if there is any hum.
If there’s no hum when using real cabs, introduce a loadbox to one amp and see if this adds any ground loop. I’d be surprised if this did given that you’re using balanced lines from loadbox to interface, unless one of the loadboxes has a ground lift switch that’s pressed down when it doesn’t need to be, which might cause the hum.
If adding the first loadbox doesn’t add hum, introduce the next loadbox and see if that adds hum. If that doesn’t, it’s probably happening at the front end stage. Or if anything is going into either fx loop, you might have an issue there that needs a ground lift.
Another test would be to have both amps with loadboxes, but with nothing plugged into the front ends of either amp, and with both amps set to high gain so you just hear amp hiss. If there’s no hum like that, it’s definitely a front end issue that just needs one side to be ground lifted.
I wonder also if there’s a power source issue, but if all the gear is powered by the same outlet then probably not.
Also a few ideas for the next video of this series. Try running two tube screamers or other combinations of dirt pedals in parallel (one to each amp) so each amp has a slightly different signal path. This can get closer to a more double tracked feel.
Also, i’m hearing slight latency on the JVM side so the overall effect is that the 5150 side arrives sooner (i don’t mean the short milisecond ambience added to the tone, just the fact that the 5150 sounds faster).

Sounds massive. I've always a fan of a dual amp rig. One with a more vintage British tone for the chewy upper mids and chimey highs, and the other being a modern American amp for the beefy lows and lower mid girth. I also agree the unboosted tone is better.

  • @leylandpedals3893

That sound when you first blended the two together and when you put the reverb and delay in - that's the "BEA" sound to me!
Made me properly love high gain and the way you use it in Toska. It's a benchmark tone that I always chase.

  • @lukebogartmix
    @lukebogartmix 3 роки тому +5

My suggestion is to do something Hetfield style, scooped 80s/90s style tone blended with a nice compressed Diezel giving some defined mids and some chewy saturated low-end. Seems to be a similar thing to blend two different styles. My favorite non-metal tone is Billie Joe Armstrong's who does a similar thing. Modded 59 Plexi that's closer to maybe a lower-gain classic JCM800 and set pretty clean and straight up, and then another 59 Plexi that's got a more metal-y gain structure with more gain for a big scooped saturated low end. So you get the cleaner super punchy midrange response and cut of the first amp, and all the big sustain and palm muting saturation and sizzle from the second amp, all through V30s.

The JVM has always been my favorite amp since I first saw it and eventually played it after a few years of watching the videos. While it’s great to have the luxury of both amps, one could get away with tones ranging from worse to even better by using a 10 band EQ pedal and a compressor. Maybe even use some of your favorite OD pedals and you’re very good to go.

One thing I would suggest Rabea, use a looper to be able to compare
the same phrase you play, on the different amp settings and combinations of amps. A little easier for us to transfer to our own rigs that way. Pete Thorn does that, it really makes the subtleties more apparent.
On the other hand, don’t stop your live playing! A big highlight of your show, fascinating that you shred like you do with mostly 3 fingers, but it makes your style more organic, accessible, your high sped stuff is just amazing!

I've definitely followed your lead on stereo tones, and have for a few years been finding cool blends with my own VX Kraken and other amps. Here are a few different pairings I've really gotten into and have kind of become my default tones for demoing with my band.
    1. Kraken Gain 2 and a Verellen Meatsmoke.
    2. Kraken Gain 1 and a VHT/Fryette Pittbull
    3. Obviously Kraken Gain 1 and Gain 2. You and Martin really nailed how those tones should work together.
Looking forward to what you discover in your tone tweak searches.

Great video! As for the phase issues you mentioned in the beginning of the video, maybe this is of interest: the JVM always flips phase when entering another mode. So when going from green mode to orange mode you also flip the phase. As far as I understand, it comes from the JVM's inner working. Basically every time you go one mode up, there is one more valve engaged. Source is a German site that mods the JVMs and stated as a side-note, that when using the JVM is a stereo setup, only use the same modes on only pair it with itself so to say.

Hi Bea, i have a little trick when comes to your buzz/ground hum issues. Try European (continental) amp power cables with a uk adapters, 2 EU pin to 3 UK pin. I was strugglin with this issue for ages everywhere in UK. And then, by total accident i discovered this trick. I had this annoying ground loop buzz/hum comming out of my studio monitors connected to my PC. I swapped my monitor's power cabels to EU with UK adapters and eureka, complete silence. It works with guitar amps as well.
Also a cheap Behringer Hum Destroyer is very usefull in various occasions.

The Jubilee provides the ballsy mid crunch as you'd expect from a Marshall and the JJ is a thick high gain with plenty of top end.
This set-up is just made for Them Bones and We Die Young type riffs...

I do the same exact thing and have exact philosophy with my Dual Rectifier Roadster and EVH 5153. I put EL34s in my Dual Rec, the Roadster are littler darker, so the tube change helped with that and the bass became less boomy. The 5153 is a mark 1 or first edition if you will, just the standard 100 watt loaded with 6L6s. These two heads played together boosted with Fulltone OCD is sheer brutality at its finest. Don't get me wrong, you get away with either one by itself just fine, more than fine actually, but the combination is just incredible.

when dealing with ground hum issues, different devices ground differently. the best advise I can give is to change where you have the load boxes plugged in. For example if they are plugged into the same power strip, move one directly to the wall outlet. another option is to see if one of the boxes features a ground lift.

    @rolfamundsen230 3 роки тому

This is the kind of stuff studio-guys experiment a lot with. The key to getting a huge guitar-tone on a record is pairing two sounds that go well together.
The same way that dual-tracking makes the sound big, cause you're creating two separate takes on right and left side, combining two sounds that are different but work well together makes it even bigger. I know some people who are new to this worry that it would be "too different" when you're dual-tracking two different sounds on each side instead of using the same sound for each, but it's the difference between them that result in width and size.
You can also definitely run into cases where two sounds just doesn't want to work together and you end up making it smaller, but the Marshall & 5150-combo is a tried and tested method for great sound since they work well together (even when played at the same time, as you've demonstrated here. That's not always the case either).
Combining amps like this and finding combinations that really work well is something studio-guys nerd out about to get the biggest tone they can. It's why in my home studio I have a JVM410, 6505 and a Dual Rectifier for example. All those three can be mixed & matched and they work well together. I'd love to hear you experiment more with all the amps in your studio for this!

There's a Boss 7-band eq and a boss PS6 before the splitter, and then each amp has it's own pedals in their respective effects loops. Nothing fancy, just reverb and chorus. A magical pairing, and makes me regret selling my JVM 410 lol. I have my 5150 still but I just never thought to run these two amps in stereo.
It just has everything you want in a modern high gain tone. Good low end response, lots of mids, lots of presence and bite without any harshness, and you get all that string separation & articulation for chord work. Very much that wall of sound kinda high gain tone.

I would love to hear more nasty, splatty, filthy fuzz sounds in heavier genres tbh. If anyone can recommend a band/song I’d be happy.

Excellent vid. They mixed wonderful together. The tube screamer takes away clarity and dynamics. I preferred the Marshall if the amps weren't mixed.
A Fryette and a Bogner would be lovely. Especially a Sig X or Deliverance, but the Pitbull would be awesome too.

I think you needed more presence on the 5150. That’s why there was hardly note definition. Additionally, adding the TS9 to the 5150 would prolly have tightened it up a bit.

Great idea Rabea, let’s here a Soldano & Plexi mix…. I reckon they’ll sound awesome.

    Soldano with V30’s
Do it you know it makes sense.

    Love the high gain harmony

Try getting a hum eliminating multi jack for your wall outlet. Then make sure everything you are playing through is going to that. Something in your chain is creating multiple paths to ground, thus creating a ground loop hum. That’s my guess. Often home electrical systems will share the neutral and ground connection at the panel because it’s usually not a problem for things that run on DC. But with all that gain in the system you could just be amplifying tons of ground hum. Load boxes tend to ring out audibly like a speaker a little when you crank the amp too, and I have seen issues where it creates a squeely feedback loop from the pickups too. 🤷🏻.
    Sounds immense though. Sick vid.

    Man this sounds great.
To be honest, I wish the amps weren’t panned. While it makes for a great listening experience, I’d love to hear these two stellar amps stacked in mono, to really get the full effect of how the compliment (or detract from) each other.
Other than that, I absolutely love this new series!!

likely had to be panned to mitigate the phase issue

    • @MrJabbawaky
      @MrJabbawaky 3 роки тому

@@xsonicassassinx a simple phase inverter or sample delay will mitigate that. Blended amps are commonplace in records, these days, so I love this concept, but would love to hear the two amps actually stacked, as opposed to separate.

@@MrJabbawaky unfortunately not that simple. The harmonics are never quite in phase. The more gain, the more it’s a problem, seemingly.

I also use the Lehle P-Split to eliminate ground hum and phase issues.
What you have to consider though is channel-switching and effects loop use.
This can (and probably will) also affect phase.
Serial and parallel loops have different affects on phasing.
When you use different load boxes, with different IRs you have to consider that this greatly affects phase.
This is because it simulates the microphone with its angle to the cab (-> phase) and the distance from microphone and cab (->phase)
As the UA Ox uses special stuff, this could be anything.
Normally IR have 200ms or 500ms of room.
