Hello. Thank you for watching! Dandruff is caused by yeast (fungal) overgrowth. This yeast exist naturally on ALL skin however those with dandruff has an overgrowth of it. Certain oils have antifungal properties (tea tree oil, oregano oil, lavender oil to name a few). Hair GREASE uses petroleum as a base. Petroleum serves as a barrier… meaning it cannot be absorbed through the skin/scalp. Therefore nothing within the grease can serve any function because your scalp can not absorb them. So your grease containing tea tree oil is a gimmick and absolutely useless because the tea tree is locked in the petroleum and can not be used/ absorbed by your scalp. Additionally the FUNGUS loves grease/ petroleum. Grease is actually the substance that will make dandruff WORSE. Also FYI -all petroleum contains toxins (benzene and hexane) which are carcinogens… meaning they cause cancer. Please do your research for your own health and hair benefits. I have studied this extensively ❤️

I used to wash and plait my hair every two weeks but I fell ill, couldn’t do my hair for two months, and my hair grew like crazy within that period. So I accidentally found out that low manipulation of hair leads to growth.
I also was sick with Shingles and couldn’t wash my hair for about 2 months in 2023 because it partially spread to the back and side of my head. My hair grew like crazy too and I was using eucalyptus oil to stop the itching. And now that I’m older I don’t feel like washing my hair every 2 weeks so most times it’s once a month cause my hair is long in the back and short in the top, a mullet type style lol.
I would take care of my hair monthly, braid up, and put a wig on. One day, I took my braids down and my neck length hair was pass my shoulders! It's now mid back length and growing fast still! Low manipulation and care of hair and eating no process foods helped me!
I started following Caucasian hair routines & there’s a black UA-camr who also follows Caucasian hair routines! I love this and I was shocked that it actually works because I was under the impression that their hair routine wouldn’t work for me. I felt guilty watching white, asian, & Indian women hair routine, but not anymore because my hair is growing. 😊
I love this comment, because there are some viewers who seemed to take issue with me mentioning Caucasians in my video. Never even considered this would be an issue. Many of my staple products were recommended by white influencers (such as the living proof repair/ restore leave in that people are loving). We can all help and learn from each other. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience ❤️
Crazy thing is, many of them watch our hair routines, and their hair is growing in thicker and shinier. This just might be the thing that brings us together ❤
@Anonyme67 "Insecure?" Lol. Not at all. I also recently started watching a white lady's hair care channel, and I've learned a lot of interesting stuff. She teaches colonial hair care, basically using homemade products-homemade shampoo/conditioner, homemade gel, etc and, surprisingly, my hair is really responding well. Less shedding, less breakage, and my hair is finally retaining moisture without even having to use moisturizing products. I don't care who I learn this stuff from-white, black, purple, green. I just wanted the knowledge of how to break my growth plateau, and I finally stumbled upon it 🤷🏽♀️
Our parents and grandparents...well mines anyway uses grease on on our scalp and hair. We had long beautiful hair until we got a lil grown thinking we can take over of doing our own hair
Thank you. I use lavender essential oils, extra virgin olive/coconut oil, argan oil, peppermint oil, hair mayonnaise, and rosemary oils. I love to leave in conditioners I wet my hair. my hair is growing. I don't manipulate my hair much. thanks for the tips.
I feel like protective styles (sew-ins) have set my hair back. They grow my hair but it always feels much thinner after a protective style. Looking forward to thickening mine up like yours!
Sew ins definitely ain’t it for me… braids and glue-less wigs/closure wigs are amazing for me. But it seems no matter what i do those frontals jack me up!!!! I guess i just can’t do a long term install with those.
@@MM-xe5sv this is the first time I’ve tried it. I’m transitioning from relaxer to natural and so far I’m retaining much more length, since I’m able to moisturize often. My yt friends in high school and college used 3 products, shampoo, conditioner and hair spray. Thats why it was easy for them to get head lice. The oils and butter is def something they learnt via social media.
Exactly and they be stealing hair oiling from Asian women I saw an Indian girl on tik tok call them out on re naming they traditional practices, that's what they do they sit there watch our videos and don't give reference like blk women do respectfully on their you tube channels, I like this channel but have to disagree with taking reference from them when it comes to using natural oils Asian women and some African tribes are the 2 I'd take advice from😅
Moroccan products are the best. I especially use their masks. Unlay oil is good. Thank you for putting me on to that oil it's really good. I also use coconut oil as well. My hair is naturally long, wavy, and curly.
Hello! I have to agree with you about the Moroccan products. Love them. They are so rich!! And glad to hear you’re also enjoying Unlay. Thank you for watching ❤️
Another awesome video thank you for being on point. I’ve been using Unlay for almost a year and my hair has grown and thickened! I was using growth greases, and a lot of other known products and my hair never grew! Now I’m using the edge product as well i’m all natural and like the addition of the rosemary and Castor oil ..loving it!!❤
Hello. Thank you for watching ❤️ I wash every 2-3 weeks. I oil daily the week before washday. When my hair is freshly washed/ styled, I oil 2 times a week.
When I was halfway through the bottle of Unlay, I decided to add 10 drops of rosemary oil and poured a little Castor oil in the bottle and shook it up!
Yes!!! I added rosemary myself for years. Especially when regrowing sparse areas. I also used castor oil in the past. I just found it a bit too thick for my hair. Thanks so much for watching ❤️
@IannaYvonne Nice regarding the rosemary oil!! You're right about that Castor oil though..You're welcome..I look forward to watching and learning from your videos..😊❤
@@mika6516 heyyy! I would spray in my palm and add 1-2 drops to that. Rosemary can be drying to the length of your hair. I also use Unlay on my ends. If you’re using on your hair strands it’s best to mix rosemary in the oil you plan to apply to your scalp and not the bottle directly. Thanks for watching ❤️
I wear updo's all the time, so it is difficult to actually massage unlay onto my ends. However, I still use in on my hair and edges and all over when I shampoo. I use Living Proof and Shea Moisture Hydration as per your older video. Now I use Moroccan oil shampoo/conditioner that you recommended. I misunderstood and thought you had said to only use the mask once a month, because I sure was about to use the mask in my 2 week shampoo. I appreciate all your hair care tips. You are a godsend!
Heyyyyyyyyy Ianna picking up some of your great tips....keeping my hair moisturized, hydrated in a natural bun, waiting for the length to kick in.....I did the big chop in february......still contemplating a chemical......

People have even sent me pictures privately on instagram when asking their questions. Happy to help if I can. You got this! ❤️
I was In same thought process a few weeks ago and after doing some research I found this older video of a woman using egg yolk, an oil and lemon juice and I didn't want to do all that mixing so I used avocado mayo from Walmart and my hair felt like butter moist, and softened my texture but made sure to do a cold rinse at the end. Good luck on your journey.
I am not getting this constant reference of ww. Black and South Asian people have been oiling their scalp like forever. Anyway. I am not a fan of scalp oiling but I have low porisity hair and my scalp doesn’t like products like that either. Exercising is a good way to have blood flowing too.
Hello. Thank you for watching and commenting! I personally have NEVER referenced WW on my channel before today. As I mentioned to another viewer, BW are still practicing and promoting unhealthy practices , such as using grease on the scalp. I see this very often. Especially here on UA-cam by hair “influencers” who should know better. Grease is NEVER promoted in the Caucasian community ( even though most grease is owned/manufactured by Caucasians ironically). The point is we can all learn from each other. Race was not the point of the video. For those offended, feel free to replace Caucasian with “south Asian” lol. Also long as the message is received. And yes, exercise is also a great way to increase blood flow throughout the body. Excellent point. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve always known oiling the scalp to be a common thing in the aa community. I watched my mom do it my whole life. I don’t like the ww reference but it’s more so because people in our community keep referencing them as if they have it all together and we don’t do anything right. And we need to copy them in order to be right. It’s much better to just say “oiling scalp is beneficial because xyz” rather than say the ww have it figured out. It triggers a trauma response because of history and knowing that’s exactly how many of them feel about us.
i like your information accept i don't use any types of oils on my scalp unless i am doing an hot oil treatment then washing it out. I massage my scalp to keep my sebum levels low. I work out a lot so i use rose water to clean my scalp if you don't wash your hair frequently i use to do it once a week, then twice a week, now every 3 weeks.
Great video as always, and I definitely agree with you on daily scalp massages I've been do it diligently and I'm starting to see little short hairs of new growth and btw, Unlay Hair Oil is wonderful... I've incorporated it as well. Looking forward to your vid on the Unlay Edge and Hair Growth Booster. Blessings.
I believe it comes down to hair type not race. It’s a science this is why cosmetologist are great people to talk to. Not everything works for everyone. Grease has worked for my relaxed hair and oils works for my natural hair. I don’t follow what a particular race uses for their hair, skin or body. I use what has worked for me even experimenting with natural oils, raw shea etc. For instance everyone glories Coconut and its wonders on hair skin and food. The only thing coconut wise that works for me is coconut water when I drink it. It burns my scalp and itches my skin. I don’t like it in my food either. I was relaxed for a decade and DAX grease did wonders for my hair. No issues. My mama used her hands to wash and stimulate my head with my relaxer and it grew with no issues. When I transitioned I did a big chop and had 3 different cosmetologists tell me the same thing to grow long and healthy hair. The oil was a contributor, but for me it was the foods that I ate, shampoo, conditioner and water that helped with my healthy hair and yes it grew. For me it’s never about a race when it comes to things like this. It’s about science, knowing your body and what you put into it.
Hello. Thank you for watching ❤️I completely agree with you. This video was never about race. I only mention “ Caucasians” because they DO NOT use or promote the use of grease. There is now plenty research and evidence showing it is harmful to the scalp. I don’t know any educated/ licensed cosmetologist, trichologist or dermatologist promoting the use of grease on the scalp. Just because it’s not hurting you doesn’t mean it is helping. Grease as a sealant/ protectant on the hair strand is great. On the scalp… natural oils are the way to go.
@@IannaYvonne you said it - how it being applied. It was always applied to my hair not scalp. This was my mamas technique. When i transitioned to natural I consulted with cosmetologists but I never stated what they said and to add they did not mention grease. I think your comment about white women sounded off in this comment section and everyone is commenting on a race they follow for hair techniques. A race should not predict what is right or wrong. Science does that.

Hello. Yes I noticed my hair became much more dry. So I go in pretty heavily now with moisturizing products. I also use the living proof repair/restore leave in. That helps a lot with preventing breakage. And of course I limit heat. Thanks so much for watching ❤️
Great tips! And thank you for just keeping it at 3, lol! Because these people that have like 20 - 30 tips, they dont all work, and it's a waste of time! My hair is not quite as long as yours- it's mid back, but all I do is--relax it every 2 months, wash every two weeks. I brush thoroughly everyday with a paddle brush (stopped using a comb), I deep condition every two weeks, blow dry it straight with a comb attachment (very important, don't blow it dry with a paddle brush) then pin it up at night- I don't even use a scarf, and it grows just fine. But I am going to try oiling my scalp as you suggest!
Love your tips. Steaming? I deep condition with cap under the dryer. If you have done this method before can you tell me what steam would do differently. I might just try it and see.
Yes! I agree with these tips and I love Unlay it’s the only oil I use! Gonna look into getting a scalp massager too Seems like it will be a relaxing experience m❤
I started implementing some of your tips about a year ago and my hair is the longest it's ever been! 💕 As I'm from Europe, I haven't managed to get my hands on the Unlay oil yet - any european girlies here who can recommend a lightweight, non-greasy scalp oil? I've been struggling with severe hair loss and want to try oiling more frequently.
I just purchased the living proof leave in after watching your video.. i also have relaxed hair, and i wash my hair every two weeks. Is this product gentle enough to use every wash day which is twice per month considering that it has protein?
Hello. Thank you for watching! Yes. It’s a mild protein leave in ( silk protein). The website says it gentle enough for daily use. I use it weekly on both wet and dry hair. When my hair was more damaged ( actively breaking) I used the leave in 2-3x weekly with no adverse effects.
lol. Thank you so much❤️ I bought the entire set from Raymour and Flanigan. The lamps and accessories are from home goods. Not sure if they are still around. It was some time ago that I purchased them. Thank you for watching!
Hello. I oil my scalp 2 times per week when my hair is freshly styled. Closer to washday, I will oil daily. I use the living proof 2-3 times a week. It can be used daily if you are experiencing excessively breakage. Thank you for watching ❤️
Did you struggle with thin hair at first? People tell me my relaxed hair is thick but it’s still thin to me. I want my hair to look like yours and or cassy’s haircare. Did you realize that the thickness came along with your length? I take really really great care of my hair so taking care of it is no issue or chore for me. I just want thickness!
I’m trying to figure out why grease isn’t important? This is what our mothers used to grow our hair as little girls! I still use grease on scalp and my hair is almost tailbone length
My mother too .., Royal Crown,Now I’m over it! She has a video on what grease does to your scalp you should look it up. This isn’t a debate. If you like grease, use it and have a great day.!
Hello. I also used grease as a child. However as I grew and did more research on hair care, I learn that grease on the scalp is , at best is providing no scalp benefit. At worst, it’s making your scalp health worse. Petroleum is a barrier. The skin cannot absorb petroleum. So all the “amazing ingredients” your grease claims to have are forever stuck in the petroleum base and unable to be absorb on the scalp. Petroleum can also lead to inflammation of the scalp, and worsen dandruff. If you have dry scalp… again your body cannot absorb petroleum…. So it’s provided no moisturizing benefits. On the other hand, all natural hair oils are derived from plants and treat your scalp conditions. Tea tree oil has antifungal properties and can treat dandruff. Coconut oil is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft and can help the hair retain moisture. Argan oil is very nourishing and promotes healing. because these are natural oils and derived from plants, our skin/scalp can absorb them and actually utilize them for healing. I have many videos explaining this on my channel. my purpose here on UA-cam is to make people aware so that they can then do their own research and find a better way. It’s likely that the grease your using is not hurt or HELPING you. Compare it to rubbing dirt in your scalp every morning and saying “ but my hair is tailbone length”. It’s wasn’t the dirt… just like it isn’t the grease that caused this. Just because we’ve always done something doesn’t mean it’s the right way to do it. Please research this. thanks so much for watching. Hope that information helped ❤️

Hi Ianna Love your tips! They have helped my hair about 3” inches away from my bra strap (back)…can you share what to do with losing strands? Like, I can brush my hair and then run my fingers down my hair and hair (long strands) are in my fingers. Is that normal? Thank you for your response/advice.
Hello! Thank you for watching❤️ some hair shedding/ loss is normal and occurs daily. It’s believed that most people lose about 50 strands a day. Some a bit more or less. If you are practicing low manipulation and not combing daily, it may seem like more. It’s only because you have not removed the hair that came out in the previous days ( when you did not comb). If you’re noticing more excessive hair loss I would first check with my doctor. There are a number of medical reasons for excessive hair loss. Scalp massage and multivitamins can help if the hair loss is related to a nutrient deficiency. This worked for me in the past when I was experiencing hair loss because of extremely dieting and limiting my foods too much. Hoped that helps. Reach out if you have any other questions
Great video❤, but my case is different, my hair really grow fast; I notice it on the roots every day But my length break, the ends become weaker and weaker, I’m tired of splitting and cutting them, there is no change even though I protein and deep condition regularly 😭 I still have the same length, even though everything I get braids I notice the crazy growth What can explain this

Hello! Thank you for watching ❤️I also have hoshimotos disease. I discussed it in one of my vlogs but honestly it’s affected my hair very little. My hairline has always been a bit more sparse than the rest of my hair. When I consistently apply rosemary to my edges and do daily massage it looks much fuller. But it’s a lot of effort and unfortunately I get lazy 😩😆 I’m hoping the Unlay edge is the answer so I dont have to constantly mix my oils. We’ll see.
Hello. lol. You have to go to the title and click where it says more. The description of the video and the links will then be revealed. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ❤️
Because MANY of us are still using grease. Even you still don’t understand the “essential oils” in the grease is LOST in that grease. It serves no purpose (other than to fool consumers into purchasing the product) because your scalp cannot absorb grease. So the essential oils will never make it into your scalp/ hair follicle cells to perform any function. Also ….why not mention them? We are all humans and can learn from each other. They DO NOT use grease. That was the point. Thank you for watching.❤️
It is not that serious. Ppl are doing too much in these comments, they act like you said “ww *created* this routine!” 🙄 I understand triggers but if EVERYTHING triggers you then you need to work on yourself and spend less time online as well smh! Anyways, I looked up the spray and it says that it also detangles, do you use it for that or just on your scalp? Also, I think you said you massage your hair when it’s styled, but not every style right? Kuz it could ruin a bun, etc. And last question, what do you use to deep condition?
😆 ❤️ Thanks so much for watching! As for detangling, I can say that Unlay softens the hair and adds enough slick to make detangling much easier. If your hair gets very tangled, especially after washing, you may need additional detangling products. I use the moroccan oil hydrating conditioner. Absolutely love the entire line lol. Also, I will skip if in a professionally styled bun. The massage will have to wait until I take the bun out 😆
No problem, thank YOU! Ok so you skip it with certain styles then, which makes sense, I was just confirming. So you put unlay on your scalp AND hair right?
I often feel so guilty that I don't like long hair on me. I had long natural hair pass my shoulder while I was in the Army. I wore it in a bun until I retired. One week after retirement I stood over my bathroom sink and chopped and shaved it. I wear it at about one have inch and cut it every 2 week to maintain that length. Nonetheless I enjoy watching vids on hair health
I also want to point out that woman in general need to eat more meat/proteins (no offense to any vegans, live your best life sis). All the vitamins/supplements we buy to try to force it to grow is literally found in abundance in red meat, whole milk, and fatty fish. Yogurt and bacon grease (fry your eggs in left over bacon grease instead of seed oils) helps too. Chicken is less nutrient dense, but if you prefer it I would recommend eating wings and making sure you eat the chewy bits around the bone. That's where all the collagen is. Bone broth or bone marrow works too. Ever Since I went Keto (and now dirty carnivore) my hair grows like a weed. My eye brows have always been thin/sparse. Now I don't need makeup, I have eyebrows. Idk how ya'll grew up, but my mom would always give the boys more meat and not force them to eat salads and fruit. My cousins and Pop all still have heads full of hair and beards. They grill all the time, to this day. My Auntie is 60 something, and she was told back in the 90's to do a low carb diet to fix her diabetes and lose weight. She is one of the only older people in my family who isn't on meds, is still fit, and has a whole fro (kinda sad). When she gets a silk press her hair is down her back and she constantly has to cut it at 60. But for someone reason the other woman in the family refuse to listen. Imma listen and take care of myself now. Amen

I thought we were the ones always using hair oils. Caucasian women probably got the idea from us. They never were traditionally adding oil to their hair. They always took oil out of their hair. If they are now, it must be a new phenomenon. Your hair is gorgeous btw….
Hello. Thank you and thanks so much for watching ❤️I agree with you 100%. Caucasian woman definitely learned the benefits of scalp oiling from us. My point however is that they have taken the information and are using that knowledge to promote scalp health. Too many of us in the black community are still practicing and promoting the use of hair grease on the scalp( which has been found to be harmful and worsen scalp conditions such as dandruff). I used Caucasian women as an example because I have NEVER seen 1 recommending the use of hair grease on their scalp. I realize now there was a better way to phrase that. My goal was simply to educate about the healing benefits of using all natural hair oils.
I agree! I was going to say the same thing. They got that from our community and they traditionally washed their hair every day to take out oil. They also never slept with silk or satin bonnets till recently. I think it’s great that they have learned the benefits of oil and not drying out their scalp and hair though.
Hello. Thank you for watching ❤️ I just like to experiment with my look. I get bored easily. Its the same reason why I colored my hair and have now cut long feathered bangs. I think the next step is to cut a bob. I’ve been eyeing them lately. Summer is coming. We’ll see 😆
It’s not that difficult to grow hair. A lot of black women just aren’t patient with their natural hair and struggle with retaining length because they don’t moisturize their hair properly and put too much tension on their scalp. Tight braids, rough combing, over processing with chemicals…etc
The mites the cause dandruff feed on oils. Not grease.....just some food for thought.

No reason to feel guilty. It’s whatever works for you. Everyone’s hair is not the same. Glad you found something that works for you 😊
😆😆😆 they also tough you how to detangled your hair? Insecure
Yea I don’t oil my scalp but I do grease it
I went back using grease, and my hair isn't drying up anymore
Yeah the mites that cause dandruff consume oil. Not grease so grease when used right is actually better
A real beautiful Queen helping other women grow long hair. Your videos are really appreciated.🙏🥰 Thank you always 😊

Thank you. I use lavender essential oils, extra virgin olive/coconut oil, argan oil, peppermint oil, hair mayonnaise, and rosemary oils. I love to leave in conditioners I wet my hair. my hair is growing. I don't manipulate my hair much. thanks for the tips.
I use all these+ pumpkin seed oil (DHT blocking), Ayurvedic powders. And my secret killer- burdock root water👌🏾
Peppa mint oil is good to
I feel like protective styles (sew-ins) have set my hair back.
Hmmm 🤔 interesting
Have you ever tried mini braids without any hair extensions, only your hair? I’m doing that now and so far so good. 👍🏾
I don't understand the idea of protective styles. What are we protecting exactly? 😅😅 you take out the style and hair is filthy, crunchy and thin 😅😅
@@MM-xe5sv this is the first time I’ve tried it. I’m transitioning from relaxer to natural and so far I’m retaining much more length, since I’m able to moisturize often. Some BW have used veg/natural and essential oils for years. My hair thrives using varies oils, butters and deep conditioners.
Deep conditioner after every wash is it but knowing how to properly apply a deep conditioner was a game changer.
How do we properly apply a deep conditioner? I need a tutorial ❤

I love having relaxed hair and wearing protective hair styles
My yt friends in high school and college used 3 products, shampoo, conditioner and hair spray. Thats why it was easy for them to get head lice. The oils and butter is def something they learnt via social media.
LOL EXACTLY! They're wearing bonnets and getting silk pillows now too. I WONDER where they're getting that from.
Exactly and they be stealing hair oiling from Asian women I saw an Indian girl on tik tok call them out on re naming they traditional practices, that's what they do they sit there watch our videos and don't give reference like blk women do respectfully on their you tube channels, I like this channel but have to disagree with taking reference from them when it comes to using natural oils Asian women and some African tribes are the 2 I'd take advice from😅
Thats what I came to say! Oiling the scalp HAS NOT been part of their routine until recently
Agreed. My bfs family is Indian they constantly tell stories of how they were teased for their hair being “Oily”. It was something abnormal to yt ppl
Now I’m using the edge product as well i’m all natural and like the addition of the rosemary and Castor oil ..loving it!!❤
Thanks so much for watching ❤️ so glad you are enjoying Unlay and finding my tips helpful.
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ can you show us how you bun your hair to get the wave in the ponytail?
How often do you wash your hair?
How often do you oil your scalp?
Love your videos ❤️
@@IannaYvonneWow! Idk you could put rosemary oil inside Unlay Oil?
Don’t do a chemical, it’s harsh on your ovaries and bad for your hair , it would look stringy and stiff
Hello!! Thank you for watching. Sounds like your doing everything right. Moisturizing, low manipulation and scalp massage. Keep with it. Reach out if you have any specific questions along the way.
Well said Ianna. Always so positive!
Yeah I was scratching my head like girl we been oiling our scalps WITH OIL...where you been? The white girls got it from US!
@@ShauntéPalmer thank you for this comment. This was well said, without any negativity. I appreciate this response ❤️

Did you notice any change in your hair when you dyed your hair? How do you keep it healthy while dyed?
Your hair is standing on business ❤
Thanks so much ❤️
Love your tips. Steaming? I deep condition with cap under the dryer. If you have done this method before can you tell me what steam would do differently. I might just try it and see.

Your necklace is so pretty did you get it online or a store in person?
Our ancestors used grease for ages, and many made their own. I use grease, and oil on my hair as well as my scalp.
Thanks Ianna. I will try the rosemary. How many drops do you recommend?

Hi Ianna
Love your tips!

We been oiling our scalp and most hair grease have essential oils, I don’t see why you need to used a ytw as an example.
I dont know where shes been, sll early natural hair youtubers recommend pure oils. Grease was considered the devil
Thanks for sharing!

Amen

Hello. Thank you for watching. I believe they are currently only shipping to US and Canada. I’m told international shipping is in the works…. And actually coming soon ❤️
Masha’allaah beautiful house ❤
Thank you ❤️
I thought we were the ones always using hair oils.
Why do you have an undercut?
Absolutely
Indian woman are know for some of the most healthy beautiful hair they oil and so do I 🫶🏽
You look stunning
Thank you 😊 ❤️ and thanks for watching.
