I this point, we don't know what's happening with the Season 3 production. With JJK S2 and Fate suck up most of the sakuga talents, wonder what will be left for OPM
We're so close to witnessing this colossal meeting of every animator in the industry during fall. Seshimo & Gosso with everyone they know + the next big 2 Cour Madhouse Passion Project with Saitou as director. Oh and to casually top it all off you get Pluto which already has Okiura credited as doing some storyboard work, and some heavy Ohira KA. I think being blessed is an understatement.
I mean fukushi is probably the best AP in the industry. So his projects will be wonderful with whatever production time. He is only ''good'' remaining AP in madhouse if I'm not wrong
It's crazy how I see many people keep "criticizing" the s2, when what they're doing is not criticism at all, but just their own personal taste and sometimes their hate for Mappa. No matter how deeply and objectively you analyze the scenes for them and try to explain why those are great, they really just want pale colors (because according to them, that's what makes the series "dark") and shiny lights/effects. Nothing more. For me, this season absolutely exceeded my expectations, not just in terms of animation, but in directing and cinematography. I especially love how they often use diagonal compositions to make the frames more dynamic and all those heavy perspective wide-angle shots are just icing on the cake.
I've commented before but I'll say it again - thank you so much for these animation breakdowns. it really helps when you point out exactly what makes a scene/drawing good (like changes in perspective and such). and as an artist, I'm happy when people appreciate the incredible work that goes into making art. very much am looking forward to your video's about jjk s2!
I'm sure Seshimo has already gotten to the point where he doesn't need sleep to survive. Even Otsuka tbh, managing this many projects while also being directly involved in some of them AND managing the whole studio's explosive growth is ridiculous.
I'm here for the JJK animation break downs. I am really glad I found your channel this is kind of perfect content for me I really wanted to learn more about the industry for animation and techniques.
Can you believe that people are comparing Mappa's Sukuna cut with a fan animation of the same which has a lot more details (And is really good by the way. Its made by a guy called Nick), and then saying that Mappa's version is bad. Like, this is the mindless Naruto vs Pain argument all over again. Less details does not equal to poor animation. Sorry there, just wanted to rant and get it out of my chest.
On top of that, all compliments to Nick's animation, but it was like 15 seconds of animation probably produced in a month, a schedule that is literally order of magnitudes slower than this studio is allowed. Honestly, bandwagon audience comments on bad animation in general, especially with Naruto vs. Pain, while pointing at the art on singular frames, is full blown Dunning-Kruger effect on display.
It's sad that casual fans will complain about this season having "inconsistent" and "bad" animation while it actually will be a technical masterpiece. Though sakuga fans will just cream all over themselves.
Casuals when jumping in to discussing supposed "bad animation" from JJK2 almost always feels like watching a bunch of case studies for Dunning-Kruger interacting with each other. One of my favorites is when they mix up compositing with animation.
Thank you very much, another great video. It would be really helpful if you could make a video explaining the main concepts like genga, compositing, CGI, Sakuga.... It took me the last month to grasp the basics and I'm still not over basic things like the difference between art direction and photography.
After seeing recent ep 6 characters look thin compared to season 1 which is actually good. Now they look like 16-17 year old students. In season 1 characters looked more buffed.
There was concerns with Park gone that the fight choreography will get weaker but last episode alleviate some concerns imo. I think the focus of the fight choreography in S2 will still be just as good it’s just will have a different emphasis. Park and most of S1 was heavy impact and rapid movement (like a lot of Parks cuts have that 360 camera movement) whereas S2 is more on flow and creativity. Plus the fight choreography in the manga is already peak so there isn’t much for them to really do to make the fights look good outside giving it top tier animation and making sure the storyboards properly capture the fight. They don’t have to do extra work to make fights good unlike say Bleach seeing a few action cuts I don’t recall in the manga means they’ll still some extra spice to the fights. The problem with HI and it’s not really a problem just a thing about the arc the nature of the fights didn’t really give much way for tight fight choreography because of the nature of the fights but how MAPPA handled those fights were beyond masterful. How they weren’t afraid to make bold decisions and change things from the manga to make the fights so much better. Like how in the manga Geto vs Toji happened in one spot whereas the fight in the anime happened throughout the entire Tomb of the Star Corridor. The fights in Shibuya are peak Shonen fights unlike HI so while I’m up for making changes to improve upon what is there but I hope they’re careful with that.
i only realized it today but the opening uploaded to youtube with no credits has some difrend parts than the op we got in the episode ther are some shading changes and editing changes to character drawing corrections

Really surprised you know about Fog Hill of the Five Elements, but then again, it makes perfect sense that you caught on it lol. I'd REALLY like to see you analyze it, although I have practically no knowledge of Chinese animators much less the team at Samsara Studio
I would like to analyze it as well, but I need to find time for it and most importantly the right words. 16:40, it maybe park since there are leaks that one episode from this arc is being outsourced to relatively new studio(coping it may be park's new studio that he had just started)
@@A1000-b9sif it's his studio probably it's because he wanna return the favor due to almost a decade as a Mappa only freelancer, but also because the studio needs money. After all i doubt that he opened his studio without contracting a debt with a bank. It's very rare.

To be fair to people Ren Onodera does heavily use cg in their work. From my understanding in cuts like the one from Boruto you showed they start by making a 3d model that they then reference and draw over for their 2d work.
Yes, he uses CGI to get the perspective down for the character. Ikuo Geso also does this, and like 70% of action scenes in Ufotable are also made like this. The final scene though has been transformed by drawings to the point where the CGI doesn't show at all. In Ren's case he started off a bit rough, like his black clover OP cut, but by the time the JJK scene came around he'd perfected it; besides those drawings have another layer of polish given due to TNK's corrections.
