So the person Geto called to the stage and killed was Sonoda, the guy who called for the assassination of Riko and also collected the body from Toji. I'd like to believe Geto knew this and thats why he called him personally.
Considering the fact that he was talking to Toji's work partner before going on stage, it's safe to say that he killed Sonoda knowing that he was a major member of the cult.
Yea definitely also I wonder it geto then killed toji’s partner or if he let him live? Thats a question for gege for sure and it may be included in the fan book
@@brandonn_9733 I don't think he killed Toji's partner. There would be no meaning to it. Geto did change, but his ideals still follow "meaning". He doesn't kill for pleasure.

I don't mind her not smoking in the anime honestly, though it would be cool if she gave an explanation on how she's constantly using reversed curse technique to heal her lungs and prevent cancer, and thus it's OK for her to smoke.
Toji can see curses. And more things beyond human sight as well. Also resistant to the poison effect of curses unlike Maki (jjk 0) He is truly superhuman. Sensing with your 5 senses. Sight is sense. He uses a pet curse he trained himself
@@-MankoMan no worries, with your knowledge of animation I can imagine that you're thinking and experiencing more than average while watching, plus jjk generally has a pretty fast pace so we all probably miss small details
something else that i heard during the episode is when gojo goes to see megumi. Gojo starts telling megumi the story of his life and the sound starts building up to some type of song and megumi interrupts gojo and the music continues getting better, as if to say megumi is just as competent and understanding of the situation. When Gojo says are you a first grader the music isolates the notes megumi added and it fades to silence. After Gojo gets his answer from megumi about if he wants to go to the zenin the music starts back up and it sounded similar to the music from before but it quickly adds in instruments and it transitions onward to present day as if gojo has been steering it all ever since. Hell it even kinda blends into the ending theme as if there is no chance gojo could ever be supplanted. Am i the only one that hears this and im crazy or is it really there?
Even thought it is different from your regular content, this type of narrative breakdown and analysis is really interesting. While I am a manga reader, you still managed to point out various extreme subtleties I missed in the episode! You hold a very strong mind for all areas of analysis, great video!
Funnily enough after watching the episode I thought to myself, now I get to look forward to MankoMan’s take. I just love the passion and knowledge you have for the craft. I always learn something new when watching your takes.
I meant to ask, what was your take on the one cut where it’s the over head shot of Geto and Yuji as they talk, where Yuji is totally blocked out by the overhead light. I was wondering what that might have meant in a more metaphorical sense, i was thinking it was representing Geto feeling alienated and alone within the sorcerer world even amongst the other special grade sorcerers. But was curious as to what you thought about it.
Jesus christ, this is one of the most brilliant anime video essays on UA-cam. How have you NOT blown up yet dude, there's definitely a niche for in-depth storytelling through animation analysis channels.
Great video, you pointed out a bunch of things I didn't notice such as the two Geto's in the village scene and how one of them dies equivalent to the candle going out. Or the difference of the two routes Geto can take. It's obvious but I didn't pay attention to that so I neither noticed that there is an exit sign and that the way out is much shorter for the genocide route, which is, the "easy" way. I find it interesting how Gojo used Geto as his moral compass in episode 4 - Gege supposedly said that when Geto had answered him something else, Gojo would've become a very different person. And in Ep 5 we also see that Gojo as adapted Geto's views. Geto, meanwhile, shifted into what Gojo previously thought, which is that the weak are not worth caring for, but he adopted that belief to a much more extreme extent.
I know I shouldn't pay attention to the hate of the animation of JJK because they're probably haters or people ignorant of animation but the hate for this episode makes me so fucking pissed off. The hard work of the subtle symbolism and details or the amazing character acting as well as the amazing corrections from Niinuma is something I could already tell at a glance without taking a deep look in a rewatch and yet there's still hate? This goes for the whole of season 2 but what is so appealing of season 1 artstyle than season 2. The artstyle still retains that JJK feel except there's less linework for mainly clothes and a little less for character faces but that difference allows for so much more freedom for the animators to express themselves and I doubt most people could tell at least for the clothes. The only reason I can think of is that they dislike the creativity of season 2 compared to 1. Sorry for the rant, I just find it baffling that people online find episode 3 and 5 bad especially one comment I found that said they wanted season 1 non action scene animation and that this episode looked fan animated...

Wow, glad to have you here. The original space jam is a wonderful movie, and Taz is my fav looney toons character because of how animated and chaotic he is. Thank you for the kind words!
I see some of yall saying gojo couldnt kill geto because he was his friend, while it is partially true its not the biggest reason why (long ahh paragraph incoming) Right before Geto left, he asked Gojo a question: Are you Gojo Satoru because you're the strongest? Or are you the strongest because you're Gojo Satoru? To the average watcher, this didn't mean shit and it entered through one ear and came right out of the other. But if you dive deep into that question, it's alot more meaningful than you think. We all know that Gojo thought protecting the weak was a hassle, and he didn't find meaning in it, while Geto's ideology was that Sorcerers exist to protect Non-sorcerers, and he basically acted as Gojo's moral compass. However, after Riko's death Gojo became by far the strongest, leaving Geto behind. Usually it wouldn't be a problem, but naturally they became separated. Geto had to absorb Cursed Spirits on a daily basis (Cursed spirits taste like a rag used to clean shit and vomit according to Geto) and since now he and gojo weren't as close anymore, he wasn't able to share that suffering with him. He became lonelier, and his friends kept dying like flies. Geto asked himself to who was he doing this for? He had explained that the ugliness of the masses and their weaknesses has never been as apparent. Not only that, its basically their fault why cursed spirits exist in the first place. Geto fell into a deep depression, and an endless cycle of exorcising and absorbing cursed spirits while he could do nothing to save those around him which eventually led to his downfall. Back to when Geto asked Gojo who he was. He basically asked him if he finally started caring about the masses because he became the strongest, or did he become the strongest because he finally started caring about the masses? Now remember, pre-awakened Gojo was cocky and arrogant, he didnt care about anyone. But now why the sudden change of heart? This question led to Gojo's identity crisis. After, Geto told gojo that it would've been meaningful if he killed Geto then. Gojo would've acknowledged that he finally changed his ideals because of his strength. However, Gojo didn't know if that was the case, so he didn't kill him.
What an amazing analysis. Its so mind blowing to see and learn all these metaphors and subtle messages that you don't notice initially while watching the episode straight, as a Fan. As a writer myself, I bet that Gege didn't intend for some of the stuff he wrote to pan out so well and be multi layered.😂 Sometimes that stuff just happens. Mappa put their foot in this episode, but Id also love to give credit to you. Its one thing as creators to intentionally put things in to create a multi-layered piece of work. Its another thing for consumers and people like you to be able to break down the pieces of work and find the hidden meanings for yourself, and dive into things that probably no one else did. Kuddos to you for the awesome video.
Brilliant analysis. I was waiting for you to mention Geto's face during the speech to the Star Cult. The lighting makes it look like his face is white, (as if he is wearing Kabuki make-up). The grand gestures he makes (he's on a stage after all) give more sense of theatre (and that he said he needed to "put on a show").... After being tormented by their applause, he has to make them clap, this time for him.
New to the channel...Fantastic Breakdown of the episode! I'm interested to see what you think about the stark change in animation style. Also, thank you for being the only person that seems to notice the clapping transition to rain and back. Gives me chills
The guy Geto kills on stage Mr. Sonoda was the old representative guy Toji gave Rikos body to Because of him a school girl died insignificant death in return buddy died an insinificant death😂😂
For me attack on titan still has the best ep (coz it was hour long and my love for the series) but jjk has certainly become one of my all time fav anime. Also Mappa is such an interesting case study. For a lot of studios you do see a common thread. But just considering the shows released this year by mappa, all of them are extremely different. Really puts into perspective how the individual teams matter more than the studio (and also mappa is taking too many shows) Also idk why has it become cool for crapping on mappa, when (except hells paradise) Aot, Csm, Jjk, Vinland have all been 10/10 spectacular adaptations (and if you're gonna bring up one scene where 'bad music' or 'manga better' then you don't DESERVE good animation. As for jjk, its so rare to see a popular show delivering actual good stories, which along with the love and care it is receiving just results in a special anime which you don't get very often. At this point I m too hyped for Shibuya. I just won't be able to stop the urge of watching it's trailer, but I really wanna go blind.
Manko I've been watching a couple of your vids and I'm in love with your backgrounds, honestly. But (I may be totally wrong here) it seems that you are not as acquainted with / well versed in other anime especially the movie or anthology stuff like Ghibli or animations that incline more towards full-animation (which include mostly older anime). I'm talking about animators like Hiroyuki Okiura, Shinji Hashimoto, Toshiyuki Inoue, Shinya Ohira, Makiko Futaki, Akihiko Yamashita (last two were/are major Studio Ghibli in-house animators). You might wanna watch these two movies (sorry if you have already) 😭 "A Letter to Momo" (2011) - some of the best character animations ever "The Wind Rises" (2013) - vehicle animation has never been more deceptively smooth and beautiful AHHAIHFSIFH Again, you might have already seen/know about these animators or movies, I just wanted to gush about them 🤧
9:06 Really good catch coz it easily can be missed Sure need more videos like this (Shibuya will also have some ep like this but more on the hype side)
a nice detail about the ost of clapping, at the beginning of the episode Geto hears the clapping mixed with the sound of water because he is confused, the beauty of the weak, the ugliness of the weak, he doesn't know what he really feels. In the end, when he kills the non-sorcerers, the claps come back, but this time they are much clear, because he decided his feelings, the ugliness of the weak
Wtf bro.... Your explanation is so cool. I felt like I am watching this episode again from fresh... You are so cool. Keep up the good work. Also can you try Hindi as language, so more audience you will get 😇✨
Amazing amount of work and passion bein put into this series by mappa and the animators, I cannot wait to see how crazy they go with shibuya arcs really looking forward to seeing cuts from kosuke kato, k1ro, kouki fujimoto, arifumi imai (key animation hopefully) qkawa and hopefully new talented animators debut potentially
Yes please make more videos like this or just be adding them to your animation analysis, great video, great episode. can’t wait for the animation analysis
If you rewatch episode 1 of Hidden Inventory in the first few minutes you can not only see Geto repeating the monologue that he says in this episode, “I chose to be a Jujutsu sorcerer who saved people…”, but you can even briefly see Geto and the girls he saved walking away from the village through the woods.
This section of the story was already the peak of jjks writing, but Gosso managed to elevate it beyond what I thought he would. It was fucking brilliant; Geto’s downfall was the moment in the series that I went from liking it to thinking, “wait, this is some great ass shit” and Shibuya manages to follow up with pretty great writing and the best action in the series as well. Can’t wait to see you talk about some parts of Shibuya, you infectious passion for this medium just makes your videos so genuine and fun to watch
So that's why the episode stuck with me. Mappa animators/directors/storyboarders are geniuses, great video, excellent content, glad I subbed, I do appreciate the autistic dissection so I'm here to stay.
At 12:17 i wanna add something, you can see that gojo and megumi is divided by that tube thing because they just met and you also can see this pov is from like broken hole in the wall that represent gojo body. That is just really clever.
I read somewhere about Buddhism in jjk. About how Gojo becomes like Buddha in episode 4. How Geto is like dark version of Buddha. How some weapons and elements of the world have similarities to Buddhism lore.
As I mentioned before, in the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, music producer Yoshiki Kobayashi and composers Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui and Arisa Okehazama have all collaborated to create JJK's soundtrack. However, in the 2nd season, only Yoshimasa Terui is composing. It feels very different and intentional with the style that Terui's composing in.

Really puts into perspective how the individual teams matter more than the studio (and also mappa is taking too many shows)
Also idk why has it become cool for crapping on mappa, when (except hells paradise) Aot, Csm, Jjk, Vinland have all been 10/10 spectacular adaptations (and if you're gonna bring up one scene where 'bad music' or 'manga better' then you don't DESERVE good animation.
So true, it makes me mad when people nitpick and criticize a work because it’s mappa and hating mappa is apparently the cool thing to do
Manko I've been watching a couple of your vids and I'm in love with your backgrounds, honestly.
You might wanna watch these two movies (sorry if you have already) 😭
"A Letter to Momo" (2011) - some of the best character animations ever
"The Wind Rises" (2013) - vehicle animation has never been more deceptively smooth and beautiful AHHAIHFSIFH
Again, you might have already seen/know about these animators or movies, I just wanted to gush about them
🤧
9:06 Really good catch coz it easily can be missed
Sure need more videos like this (Shibuya will also have some ep like this but more on the hype side)
a nice detail about the ost of clapping, at the beginning of the episode Geto hears the clapping mixed with the sound of water because he is confused, the beauty of the weak, the ugliness of the weak, he doesn't know what he really feels. In the end, when he kills the non-sorcerers, the claps come back, but this time they are much clear, because he decided his feelings, the ugliness of the weak
Idk why the hell i came soo fast here
Hope she wasn't disappointed
This is incredible. I need to re-watch the episode now haha!
these are so good you put into words how i feel abt the show

Amazing amount of work and passion bein put into this series by mappa and the animators, I cannot wait to see how crazy they go with shibuya arcs really looking forward to seeing cuts from kosuke kato, k1ro, kouki fujimoto, arifumi imai (key animation hopefully) qkawa and hopefully new talented animators debut potentially
man you are smart ...nobody in jujutsu fan group made this deep analisys
MANKO MAN ACTUALLY UPLOADED VERY QUICKLY

"I can't wait for them to animate it with still frames" AHAHAHAHH
Bro your channel is going to become one of the biggest anime channels... wall need to watch and see
If you rewatch episode 1 of Hidden Inventory in the first few minutes you can not only see Geto repeating the monologue that he says in this episode, “I chose to be a Jujutsu sorcerer who saved people…”, but you can even briefly see Geto and the girls he saved walking away from the village through the woods.
The quality of your videos are superb man, so entertaining and very informative too, keep growing!!!
Really enjoyed this video. love your content man. I look forward to every upload.
I'd love to see more of these videos from you!!
After episode 17, @-MankoMan should probably change the title of this video.
I did the clapping sequence with your lmom
Great analysis, very observant.
Great work!! keep doing these
8:16 STAR PLATINUM????!!!!
Is that a JoJo reference 🤯?
This section of the story was already the peak of jjks writing, but Gosso managed to elevate it beyond what I thought he would. It was fucking brilliant; Geto’s downfall was the moment in the series that I went from liking it to thinking, “wait, this is some great ass shit” and Shibuya manages to follow up with pretty great writing and the best action in the series as well. Can’t wait to see you talk about some parts of Shibuya, you infectious passion for this medium just makes your videos so genuine and fun to watch
Someday he'll make an animation analysis on this episode. Someday
It seems like i missed a lot of details in this episode so Ill appreciate if u make more videos like this one from now onwards
I'm late to the party but please make more of this analysis videos especially for the upcoming Shibuya Incident arc. Appreciate your breakdown!
So that's why the episode stuck with me. Mappa animators/directors/storyboarders are geniuses, great video, excellent content, glad I subbed, I do appreciate the autistic dissection so I'm here to stay.
Though the new animation goes so hard,I do feel like the characters look a little to simplified. Still incredible animation though
10:36
Haha facts Shidou gonna go wild
At 12:17 i wanna add something, you can see that gojo and megumi is divided by that tube thing because they just met and you also can see this pov is from like broken hole in the wall that represent gojo body. That is just really clever.
Truly a masterpiece of an episode
love the background wallpapers nice to see a man of culture
Bro you’re so goated is there any way I can support your content fr
I read somewhere about Buddhism in jjk. About how Gojo becomes like Buddha in episode 4. How Geto is like dark version of Buddha. How some weapons and elements of the world have similarities to Buddhism lore.
I would really appreciate more anime only reviews from you that not only complements the animation but also its storytelling.
First of all this is a great video i love how you analys the episode but like to see analys one piece gear 5 episode
It was so so cool to see the creative decisions here applied in a non-battle episode of a shonen. I loved loved that.
8:16 star platinum vessels
Great job breaking down and analyzing this amazing episode. Not everyone picks up on the saddle brilliance of it all
As I mentioned before, in the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, music producer Yoshiki Kobayashi and composers Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui and Arisa Okehazama have all collaborated to create JJK's soundtrack.
However, in the 2nd season, only Yoshimasa Terui is composing.
It feels very different and intentional with the style that Terui's composing in.
Hell yea man, this format of video is much welcomed
I was trying to figure out how the symbolic meaning of some scenes. Glad you explained them and even more that I hadn't noticed.
love to see a indian (i think his) talk about anime
Great work bro, loved it
Damn good episode. Can't wait for your video breakdown.
Vaya joya!
