    An extraordinary horse. Nothing like him before or since. So honest. So brave. Absolutely thrilling and inspiring to watch every single time. He transcended horse racing and sport. When something like that comes along, makes you "believe" again.

    The Mighty 'Vo' - That's one horse that brought crowds to the track. He was such a grand horse. Met the best and beat the best over and over again. Will always be one of my favourite gallopers. Best front running stayer I have seen. No point trying to line up horses from different eras, just be thankful that we got to see such wonderful animals.

      Brought back memories..first time I saw him at the track in Brisbane with my late father,I said to my father..this horse gonna be a champion one day & that was before he was even popular & I was dead right..he never stop winning big races down south after that..

    VO ROGUE:
    remember unloading a heap of cash on this horse one day - at odds of 1/7 !! And won by about 7. Bolted in - and I still won enough for a great, unforgettable day at the races! These kind of horses are 'excitement machines' - and they don't come along that often at all. I do not really compare them. I just remember and admire! Just call them Immortals of the Turf.

    When the Vo was fit he was really hard to beat. Burnt his rivals off their feet. Super Impose (another favourite for me) was beaten regularly by Vo as was Better loosen up. Both top class horses. The Vo was as exciting as Sunline and Black Caviar.

    • @666dr
      @666dr 7 років тому +2

      Mark Freeman Better Loosen Up clashed with Vo Rogue 4 times. 1990 1991 blamey and Australian cup. Better Loosen Up 3 Vo Rogue 1. ( Watch Better loosen up in the 1991 blamey run down vo after giving him 6 lengths on the turn, the Australian Cup that year Better Loosen Up gave vo windburn. Vo had the measure of super Impose in Melbourne at wfa only..Not BLU

      It was his 10th start in the campaign.
      And he went 1800 to 1400 to 2000 in 3 successive weeks.
      It was not a campaign where he was trained to peak.
      It was grab it all because we can.

      john barker you saw a better horse in 1991 named Better Loosen Up. He clashed with Vo 4 times and beat him 3x. If you need a refresh look at the blamey in 1991 and the Australian cup 1991. Vo was exciting but he failed in the 87 and 89 Cox plates. Only a wfa Melbourne horse, mainly Flemington. If you go back as far as Tobin Bronze you have seen Kingston Town and he would have torn Vo Rogue a new one. Only one win in Sydney. Super Impose went on to bigger and better things also and was so much better in handicaps lumping big weights to win 4 randwick miles. Also a 2nd and 4th in the 89 and 91 Melbourne cups respectively. Northerly, Sunline, So You Think, Might And power, Winx all superior to vo..We all loved Vo Rogue but hardly the best since Tobin Bronze

    I find it's best not to pay attention to Timeform ratings, especially from Aussie/NZ, until the more recent years. Weekend Hussler got rated 130, which put him higher than Sunline, Northerly, Lonhro, Bonecrusher, Super, Saintly, Dulcify etc... He was a good horse, but did he achieve more than those listed? No, he didn't, he even got that rating during the EI outbreak, which makes it even sillier. I think many of our past champs have been underdone by Timeform. It's also worth noting that...

  • @emmelby
    @emmelby 11 років тому +2

    Dandy Andy smashed post-virus-and-past-his-best 1988 Bonecrusher, not the all-conquering 1986 Bonecrusher. Horses last season that equalled or bettered Vo's 128 in Australia are All Too Hard, Pierro, Black Caviar, Ocean Park, Reliable Man, and Dunaden. I don't think most of those horses would've caught the Vo at his best.

  • @IMBATMANANDIMCOOL
    @IMBATMANANDIMCOOL 4 роки тому

    Bonecrusher in 88 was well past it - he was 6 years old and only a shell of himself since the virus that prevented him from winning the Japan Cup in 86.

    If a rating ever needs revisiting it's Vo Rogue's who at his peak would have been a worthy challenger to even the mighty Frankel. Even if you drop Super Impose down to a modest 124 and Dandy Andy to 114 that puts Vo Rogue on 138 (all assuming a PPL ratio of 2lbs per length). Although he was inconsistent surely at his best a 128 rating is way off the mark.

    • @666dr
      @666dr 6 років тому +2

      If you need a refresher Tegan then look up the 1990 and 1991 blamey and Australian cups. Better Loosen Up and vo clashed 4 times with BLU 3-1. He tore vo rogue a new arse hole in the 91 Australian cup. Check out all four races. An exciting horse but not in the same league as Better loosen up, winx, sunline, northerly,might and power, Kingston Town etc.

    Bonecrusher was well in truly past his prime in 1988 and was post Japan virus :( Otherwise a prime Bonecrusher would've smashed Vo Rogue. No one could finish like the crusher I mean no one.

  • @teganstott
    @teganstott 12 років тому

    Beat Super Impose (rated 128 by timeform) pointlessly by what appears to be around 7 lengths which is around 14lbs for the distance with Dandy Andy a further 5 lengths back. So assuming he even achieved his peak of 128 in this race that puts Super Impose performing to 114 and Dandy Andy at 104. This is the same Dandy Andy who previously smashed Bone Crusher (128) by around 6 lengths and Vo Rogue by 1 length.
