Kolkata was the first Indian city i visited. It was the first time i heard the call to prayer. It was the first time i tasted Indian street food and the first time i tasted mustard oil. So many ‘’ first experiences “ in kolkata, not all of them good but most were. Kolkata will always have a special place in my heart 💜 i felt like I’d come home 🏠 i will definitely stay at Novotel next time I’m there!

How many people in India or the world stay in 5-star accommodations?
We foreigners while visiting abroad for travel don't like opulence, we want to see new cities like normal people. We like to see authenticity, not synthetic aura and images created by five start hotels or ac trains. For that, I would choose honeymoon.

@@worldnomac Hey Mac, glad that you are in my city! TBH, you got special treatment at Novotel because you are a foreign vlogger roaming around with a camera. It is one of the worst hotels in Kolkata in terms of service, and surviving because they offer dirt cheap rates for banquets. Also, just to let you know, Hindi is not the national language of India (contrary to what the chef told you), we don't have any national language at all!

Mac Bengali food has a thing about incremental heat/ spice... often we also start with bitter, as that releases the peptic juices...so the dal, and veggies are relatively less spicy.... and the fish and chicken go all blast.. yet with subtle notes of different flavours... interestingly even the spiciest dishes in Bengali foods have a slight sweetness, to balance and bring the fullness of savoury flavours.
And all the sweets you had are milk-based... mostly cottage cheese in different forms.

Rossogolla is made of Channa(soft cheese), which is full of milk boil and add lemon juice that separates water and cheese, and then with pressure remove as much as water. Then they make that shape with their thumbs and put in the sugar syrup. That is Rosugulla or Rossogolla which is also sold by any Bangladeshi or indian restaurant overseas, especially in the UK. This cheese Misthi Dahi(sweet curd),
Ras malai is of West Bengali origins and is sometimes described as a rich cheesecake without a crust. The name of the dessert is a combination of two Bengali words, ras, meaning juice, and malai, meaning cream. This Bengali specialty is made with rasgulla (sweetened balls of paneer) soaked in sweetened, thickened milk that has been scented with cardamom and saffron.
Kacha- raw, Golla( round ball)- Bengali Kacha Golla: light and flavorful Indian sweet made using ricotta cheese, cardamom, saffron, and rosewater. This recipe is made using Ricotta cheese.

The third item on the dinner pallete was fried cottage cheese tossed in creamy gravy which probably consists curd, cream, and other Indian spices..

It's sad to see so many important dishes were missing in that Bengali thali. It was only a few items😢
Mac, just to let you know that rice goes with daal, mixed veg, paneer curry, paturi (fish with mastered)
    Luchi goes with potato curry.
You can eat fried brinjal with both luchi and rice-daal. Chicken and mutton curry can be also eaten with rice and luchi.
We eat fried things like fried brinjal and papad while we mix rice with daal.
Indians don't eat rice, roti/puri/paratha and curried together. You need to eat bread and rice individually with different curries.
Hope this will be helpful for the future 😊

41:30. That waitress was a dumb.😮. She did not understood what you asked and replied junk. Delicious is "Suushaadoo" in Bengali. Or "Khub valo" as in Very Good.

Ofcourse it will taste better than the Western food that you have every day. Most of your food is around for a Max 100 year.

Impressive...Love the way you handled each item savoring it and trying to gauge the flavors..Firstly ..Bengali for delicious is ' Sushadu' ...The zing in the lassi is due to the Gandharaj lime which is available in Bengal predominantly...The Bread which you liked is every Bengalis favourite 'Luchi' a Sunday Breakfast with Begun Ghana fried Brinjals..Then very interesting to note that you followed the items in order..First was the Bengal gram Cholar Dal lentil ..Then Chacchari a mix of vegetables..Then the Chanar dalna was cottage cheese curry...Then last was the famous Kosha Mangsho Mutton a quintessential favourite..Then last was the Macher Paturi steamed in a banana leaf... Bhetki Fish in a special paste is smeared with the paste and wrapped in the leaf and steamed...Desserts the famous Rosogolla is very sweet due to the syrup..Sometimes we squeeze the syrup and have it ...Available in the US in Rosogolla Tins KC Das sweets and microwave to have it steaming hot...The Rasmalai and Chamcham the spongy sweet is available in Indian stores there...But the authentic terracotta Serveware and the Indian hospitality is uniquely Bengali..Dhanyabaad Dada is one of the best phrases ..Rocked it totally...
