Why people keep saying this as if being build from the ground up means “perfection”? It means they started from scratch so realistically that would mean bugs are even more likely. Because they aren’t using previous tried and tested systems. I’m not defending the game but the “build from the ground up” slogan that people keep using just makes no sense.

Like that seems like it should be easy to detect, no? I've seen so many of these incidents since the latest update.
All they need is to use ghosting for collisions at sufficient speed difference, say, 20% and more. Percent is better than flat value, because it means treshhold will be lower in technical sections, and higher on straights, meaning you won't be able to abuse it to skip overtaking in power builds, but at same time braking too late before corner will be enough to ghost thorugh properly cornering cars, before flying off into grass. Penalty system is a good way to discourage decent-enough players from elbowing their way though others, but game also needs anti-idiot protection to protect decent players from newbs and morons. Sure, serious sims don't have them, but that's because they use manually reviewed reports and simply ban people who drive like idiots.

I'm sure there'd be a lot of details to sort out to make a good, full system, but starting with a simple step like "if a car is sideways/spinning in the middle of the track with little forward speed, keep it ghosted until it's moving at a decent speed in the right direction with no one right behind it" would be a good start.

That's silly easy to do compared to some other judgement calls. Just look at which direction the car is pointing at and compare that to where it should be pointing at and maybe how fast it is rotating. There is absolutely no excuse for why this is still an issue.
Doesn't mean the cars not initially involved should just going blasting through with no regard - which is what always happens. You get spun and the entire field will continue to take you out. Avoiding another wreck is just as important as not causing one. Longer races would build up some more patience imo..

There might be cars to your left and right and if you stepped on the brakes too hard, you'd get hit by the car behind you anyways. War Thunder uses that logic whenever people complain about spawn camping: "It's your fault for being spawn camped because you didn't protect your spawn!". Kinda, yeah, I was playing the game, instead of sitting at spawn, waiting for campers to show up.
I just got a 2 and a half second penalty for hitting someone while they were spinning out. I had no chance of avoiding them. An easy fix should be to dismiss all contact penalties if the driver you hit has lost control already

The penalty system is broken. It does not really discourage bad driving. Not sure what they need to do to fix it, but when they do fix it though, they need to change it to also give you a time bonus instead of a penalty whenever you punt an exocet.

@@thatfunnykekguy6377 Yeah, that's another issue, if you focus only on relatively new MP games, it's either that or GT7. Dirt Rally, WRC, and SnowRunner while good are SP-focused. Wreckfest is great, but has very little content and is frankly pretty slow. Dirt 5 was a bigger dissapointment than FM8, MP was pretty muchy dead on arrival. What's left? Yearly Need for Speed release?

Turn 10 needs to change the wording of these penalties from "Avoidable contact" to "Failure to use the 'pause' collision avoidance system".
