Another great video. I get so nervous every time I try to join VATSIM. I typically don't have issues until ATC completely changes my plan, then I get stuck. lol. I wish they had servers specifically for training and teaching.
How does this happen in a way that you can't follow? I'm asking as someone who mostly knows what they're doing but hasn't flown on vatsim. If it's just a departure or runway change or going by a different waypoint-what is hard about it? I'm curious how they would change it.
@@noway9880 Well if you must know me in a more personal sense, It's the communication lingo that I have an issue with. Ever since I was a child I've never been good at speaking in public. Trying to put thoughts into words as quickly as needed to be a pilot can be difficult. Trust me when I say that it's not something I enjoy, lol. it's an anxiety issue. I know it's a 'mental thing', so I do force myself to get on VATSIM and try it out with some luck occasionally. It's just the way it is... lol
im really happy you are running a Vatsim series. this is the next big thing for me. ive had the PMDG for MS 2020 since it came out, and the idea of going on Vatsim excites me and terrifies me at the same time. Keep up the good work Enjoy your coffee
Thanks a lot for the video series vatsim the Basics, have been studying the video's and put in in to practice for quiet some time in single player and finally have flown the first Vatsim flight... quiet nervous throughout the whole flight but ATC was very helpful and it all worked out great! What an experience🎉 thanks!!
I never checked out VATSIM because I would never catch up quickly enough with required frequencies, Taxiways or Clearances, but if I will choose to check it out one day, this series will be a big help to me. Thanks!
Frequencies are quite easy in less busy areas with few controllers. Your vatsim client will show the frequencies in range so you can dial in approach, tower etc beforehand. IFR Clearances are more or less the easiest part of it all: CRAFT. Cleared to xy, Route aka SID, Altitude to hold before further clearance once airborne, usually listed on the SID chart, Frequency for departure controller, Transponder code. You know where you go, you know which is your initial waypoint and what runway is in use so you know the SID, departure freq should be on the atis as well, altitude on the charts. Really you just need to listen for changes from what you expect and the squawk. And you can ask them to repeat that part. Clearance sounds intimidating but is easy! Most difficult part imo are complex taxiways on airports where the signs in the sim are incorrect. Another difficult part would be not knowing how your aircraft works (holds and directs), but most ATC communication is very straightforward. Maybe a super busy night at Heathrow etc can be hard because of how fast they talk. Go to some airport with only tower online. You can do the departure and once airborne you're on unicom and it's more chill. After a while you're confident enough for a full flight with ATC.
The AI ATC in FS2020 was driving me crazy saying "tree" instead of "three"!! LOL I thought the devs was referencing a South Park episode in a sly way!!! (tree fitty for 350). I thought "is it just me hearing this?!?" LOLOL Thanks for clearing that up. Your vids are fantastic!!
Same, I'd be constantly asking the controller to repeat themselves because I cannot remember all the information they send in one go and cannot write fast
Hey, quick question about the ignition switches on the 737. when equipped with the auto ignition, is there really the need to put them into the CONT position while takeoff or landing? Or can they be left in the AUTO position in real life like with later Boeing planes? Thanks!
I was told no as that was the whole point of being AUTO. However I cannot remember what triggers them to start ignition. If it's like airbus then it's with flap deployment.
Dropped on Vatsim long ago ! Too many kids ! Last time I logged in I encountered a vatsim user ( not pilot ) arguing with the controller why did he change his flight level while he was flying odd !! Or tower we are not able to go around I don’t have enough power in the engine to go around !! Like why are you out of battery ? Or where the controller tells u to expect late landing and u decide to go around because you end up below minimums and no landing clearance yet ! And the controller gets upset !! Or at Frankfurt cleared to 07R but newbie asks for 25C because he is heavy ! The guy just wants to land in tailwind !! And both runways r identical ! Or fly direct to DF412 : the user ugggh control we don’t have this waypoint in the fmc !! What!!!! Flying is all about to prepare ahead what the controller is going to tell you without the need of asking to say again the name of the STAR 10 times !! I advice Vatsim to make the network paid subscription as Navigraph , this way the controllers have purpose to control more offline areas while they r getting paid , and the pilots pay money expecting some professionalism .
Your experience does not at all line up with what I've seen in recent months. I've only been on there for half a year, about 100hrs or so by now, but I have seen maybe 4 vastly incompetent people yet (repeat frequency 5 times, completely unable to fly to transition waypoints like that DF412, not knowing phonetic alphabet). There arealways some people who are a bit slower or need something repeated (me included at times) but I've never heard arguing or so. I did hear some kids here and there but they were mostly competent. Making it paid would just hurt the userbase. They need many users to feel realistic, it's no fun if you're alone on frequency. There are other paid solutions of you want that, but vatsim is not made to be turned into that. They have just changed their terms to enforce more professional behavior tho!
Vatsim as a payment service will just move everyone to IVAO or other online atc. Also I think you were just unfortunate with the events, never really happened to me and everyone was professional
Things like these do happen on the network, but what's the alternative? *Any* ATC addon is still far worse than n00bs on VATSIM. The majority of controllers and pilots are alright. If you make the network a paid subscription the traffic numbers will drop so much that it won't be fun anymore. You can always use PilotEdge if you want the paid experience.

I've been thinking about joining VATSIM for my flights for quite some time now, this might just be the final push that makes me commit.
U won’t regret it💪

Even though with anything default I'd never be sure if it's a bug or a feature LOL
I know...that's what I should be doing...and learning...my goal for this year, get started with VATSIM !
Same
Best of luck! You won't ever go back!
Brand new to VATSIM. Thanks so much for your fantastic tutorials. * subscribed *
Welcome aboard!
Never felt confident enough to go on vatsim. I’m confident flying the plane, just not talking to ATC.

I really want to join vatsim 😆 just scared
Give it a try, maybe on one of the "new wings" events which are designed especially for people who fly for the first times.
