I work in a career field where I'm always using radio communications. Yet VATSIM still makes me nervous.
I've flown a ton in PMDG planes and have done all the leg work to be knowledgeable. I'm more than capable but often I skip it anyway.
I've even done my fair share of events and online flights. One mistake that I remember, I'll share.
I was coming into San Francisco to land. I was told to hold a heading and was doing so.
He was spacing out traffic but my heading put me 90 degrees to intercept the localizer.
I was never told to capture the localizer so I got nervous and did it anyway as I didn't want to over shoot.
Controller eventually noticed I deviated from my heading and had to make me go around. Re sequence me in.
I felt stupid but I learned something that I did not know I needed to learn. I could have clarified with ATC and avoided the entire situation.
Controller handled it well and I was reminded to listen and verify to instructions.
I've been flying the 737 on msfs and tracking with Volanta. Working up the courage to fly VATSIM again.

I would even put this one down to the controller. When you take somebody through the localizer you should always tell them to avoid exactly this happening.
Pilots are used to intercept a localizer when they cross one. So chanes are that exactly what you did would happen.
A controller should know and therefore advise the pilots when they are expected to cross the localizer.

Du sprichst aber hervorragend Englisch, sowohl von der Wortwahl her als auch der Aussprache! Hut ab!
Vielen Dank für deine VATSIM Reihe, mal sehen, ob ich mich das auch mal traue .... ;-)

The reason you say "say again" instead of "repeat" is because aviation terminology comes from military radio terminology and repeat for artillery means to fire again with the same firing solution.

I am a retired firefighter (captain) and have talked on radio for decades but I am struggling like crazy to let go and start talking on VATSIM! I guess I have heard so many horror stories of ATC controllers jumping on pilots for making errors I don't want to end up being one of those pilots 😁
