- How to diagnose a misfire, without a scan tool or if there is an intermittent fault. This vehicle ( Toyota vitz / Yaris) fitted with a 2SZ-FE 1.3l engine had a bad misfire when warm under light load / throttle. This method can be used for any petrol powered vehicle as the principle are the same.

Laser thermometer on the header will tell you which cylinder is misfiring. It will be cooler.
If my engine is hot then my fire will go off, what is the proplem

Are all your engine mount ok? Is it only at a certain rpm? Have you pin pointed which cylinder is causing the issue? May have to do a compression test if you've completed at the basic tests

Hello, thanks for the video, I have a question:If it was the fuel pump, why would it have manifested in cylinder one?
This wasn't a fuel pump issue. However if your asking me if it can be a fuel pump issue then the following could be the issue: clogged / faulty injector on Cylinder 1.
This is a good detailed video. What diagnostic OBD tool would you recommend for such a Car and other JDM cars? I have tried using a Konnwei ELM327 to no avail.
NB.. Just a word of caution, never touch the rubber tip of a coil when the car is running - I got a shock of my life.
Thanks, I generally stay away from app based scanners. Try and get a basic Autel diagnostic scanner, they seem to work well with most brands.
When working with ignition coils if live in a running engine best to wear rubber gloves to avoid getting shocked haha. Or simply pull the could as I did via the top only.

Good afternoon all, I have a yaris 2002, 1st cylinder issue, swapped tested still 1st cylinder. Replaced all spark plugs and rods still happens every second or third journey any ideas for what to do next. Garage don't know what else it could be and car not worth much but if easy cheap fix might do it

Ive got a 04 Yaris which shakes while idling but otherwise drives well. Engine management light has started flashing and the code is P0300. Do you think this could be a spark plug or coil issue?
You've got a misfire code. You can start by changing your spark plugs and seeing how that goes. Shake from the engine, is this something new which has occurred?
@@AutoBuddynz A friend told me the first code so I decided to do it myself. I deleted the code and went for a drive. Engine management light came on and I get P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0171 pending. The shaking is a new thing and I dont think the plugs have ever been changed so i was going to change them anyway.
@@Dil_Playz start with the plugs and go from there.
Changed the spark plugs and only number 1 was faulty with black soot on it. Checked the new plug and this also had black soot on it. Coils have all been checked and working, there's some water coming out the exhaust. Thanks for getting back to me.

How can we drive so far with misfire
Preferably try and get it fixed as soon as possible. I would suggest to not drive the car unless its a minor misfire.

Follow the steps in this video to see if its a coil pack issue. Otherwise could be a throttle body problem or sensor issue. Get the car scanned
i am interested in buying a car with this kind off engine do you think its a good engine for commuting ( 60 km work home and back)??

@@69marokaan The rattle is this video is normal for a vehicle of this age. Done nearing 180,000km on the factory chain, guides etc

Ok, could be a lot of different issues. Check the condition your spark plugs this is the best way to try and diagnose the issue.
