The beauty of old cars is they are not overwhelmed with pointless gadgets that do little to improve the driving experience and usually take away from it...
My dad had a Series 1 XJ in 1973 and I was 17 years old and I adored it.....5 years later I bought myself a 1974 Series 2.......it was a heap of trouble but I was hooked.....I'm 69 now and 8 years ago I retired and treated myself to a 1997 x300 4ltr sport....1 owner 46,000 miles.....She has now done 65,000 and every time I get in this car I am one very happy man.....x
I had a new xj6 sport in 1995. I loved that car, so I recently bought a Japanese import Jaguar Super V8. It was meant to be a weekend ,sunny day car, but I love it so much it is now my daily driver.
i have a 2005 xj6 daimler 3.0 petrol 105k on clock....beautiful car, fantastic ride, visually stunning...30mpg gets down to southern italy every year ...uk based the 4.2 must be a beast
Will gladly be following the progress on your lovely example of the beautiful Jaguar X350. I still love my 2005 Super V8 to death. Owning it for five years now and with 355000 km’s (220k mls) on the odometer it still performs flawlessly! And for me, owning one particular car for more than two years is nothing short of a small miracle. Go figure… I guess these cars just easily put a spell on you so you do not veer off towards other cars quite so easily… 🤷🏻♂️ One other mod you could consider is replacing the (internals of the) head unit with a Jagdroid. It’s a British made invention/modification and converts the center console into a very modern and highly versatile Android unit. All this while leaving the dashboard optically unchanged. Anyway , good luck for now and looking forward to any updates! 😊👍🏻
I am 26 and just bought an '86 xj6. Love the look and learning a lot as I work on it to get it going well. I would like a modern classic to drive a few times a week so I might sell this one and buy a xjr in an effort to not have to be working on it constantly. I am quite enamored with these Jags and though they are admired here in the USA for their looks, they have quite a poor reputation.
Hi from Sydney, Australia. I'm 68 yrs old now, But when I was 19 trs old I bought a 1965 Jaguar mk10, affordable only because it was a left hand drive example, the best thing was it had been ordered by an enthusiast, so it had a race spec engine with bronze not alloy head and Koni gas shocks all-round, the handling was much improved. It was a 340-horsepower car, not a standard 265hp version After owning it a few years at age 25, I updated it with another custom built/order Jaguar. This time a rare long wheelbase series 1 XJ6, however also another ultra-high output bronze head car, and equipped ex-factory with a mk10 triple carby set up again another340 hp car, I loved it so much I kept it 33 years until I had the opportunity in 2012 of buying a 1967 420G the mk10 update , also a bronze head car, but it had a mere 50,025 miles on it at 45 years old car, this engine set up gives V8 like power but with no anti-pollution equipment there is no robbed power best of all though these powerful engines give realistic 6 cylinder engine fuel economy.
a couple of years ago I saw a 2006 Jaguar XJ in british green and was hooked ever since. My goal is to buy one and and do a resto mode on it. I even was considering to take out a loan for in last year but was discouraged by my parents. Sometimes, I even dream about it.
Did the same thing as you… 19 years old in 1997… and got an ‘86 XJS for $6000. What a car! When someone accused me of driving “Dad’s car” I had to get the SH4GU4R vanity plate and put in an only-a-teenager stereo system. $6000 was huge money then but luckily gas was 89-99 cents. Have always had a crap Jag from then on.
The Jaguar XJR is, without a doubt, an iron fist in a velvet glove-a magic carpet of power and grace. Quite the reality to discover at 22, wouldn’t you say
What is it about the Jaguar pedigree with us 50 something Brits, Americans, Europeans, etc. that have inherited the love for these cars? I’m the son of an American service man that owned a Mark IX in Casablanca back in the 50s. I grew up listening to my dad telling me about the love for these cars and how temperamental his car was. I bought an 85 XJ6 (S3) in the early 90s (in my 20’s) and currently drive a convertible 09 XK 4.2 since new. My baby is the best car that i have ever driven. I’ve owned Mercedes and BMWs along the way, but they just don’t compare. The style, comfort and overall experience of a Jag is second to none. It is truly refreshing to see that I’m not alone and there is a massive community out there that love these cars. Great content mate, thank you so much. You’ve made my day with this video.
My 1995 Daimler xj40 Sovereign is now nearly 30 years old. To drive, it is exquisite, as a classic. The electrical gremlins appear every other day, so you often go out with a smile and return with a quiz. However, there is no other car that can compare. The interior was made for Royalty by craftsmen and the length and width based on HMS Ark Royal.
Hello from France. Congratulations for this video that presents very well a wonderful Jaguar XJR, very elegant, with a real soul. A dream on the road. It is still the stunning car that it was 20 years ago. Enjoy it !
Owned a 2006 XJR a few years back. Loved it (I’m a bit of a Jaguar fan having owned several Jags). Only thing I didn’t like was the air suspension. Never got around to converting it before selling it, but think conventional suspension would’ve perfected it for me.
What a beautiful car! I did a similar thing recently - A few months ago, with 19, I bought the small brother of the xj, a jag x-txpe 3.0 with 158k km on the clock. It´s been my dream car since being 9 and I now could achieve this dream. Some things need to be done on the Jag since I got it relatively cheap, but thats completely worth it. I couldn´t be happier with a car - It drives and handles awesome and everytime starting the motor is pure emotion. Owning a XJR in the future would be absolutely amazing as well. Have a ton of fun with the Jag and take care of it.
I did the same 6 months ago getting the same as you but the 3.0 V6. It’s not fast but with 240hp it’s fine. It’s my favourite car to drive just so comfortable and serene and the handling, due to the weight is a real I hope to never sell it.
I have been driving 05 through 09 Vanden Plas since I’m 24 years old I’m now 42 and I currently have two of them in my fleet. I still think, they are by far the best jags ever made.
Nice choice! I'm 34 and was looking at the same thing (apart from with sepang alloys) It would look amazing slightly lowered and with spacers! our taste in bikes bizarrely extends over to cars too 😅
Got to love Jags! Been a fan since I was a kid. Are you interested in meeting my beast? F Pace SVR 550 bhp, 700nm of torque. 180mph. It’s a nut job of an engine. Be interested to see a before and after bhp figure once you’ve done your mods. I kind of hope the air intake isn’t going to live in the hot air of the bonnet.
Lovely car. Leave the exhaust as it is. It is enough. The car is a keeper. I would focus on maintaining its originality. No need for extra power or noise. Appreciate it for what it is. I had a yr 2000 V8 X300 4.0 and an earlier straight 6. These are the last two proper Jags. The thing I liked about my yr 2000 4.0 V8 is I would arrive outside the pub, and the smokers standing outside all commented on the noise the exhaust made as it gradually cooled down clinking and clanking as the hot metal shrank again. I really must get myself another good one while it is still possible. 👍
Love it ! Enjoy it! Looking forward to seeing your journey with it. Not too crazy on the exhaust, they have a wonderful subtle mellifluous V8 note. Maybe find a Range Rover / Sport Supercharged 5.0 V8 to do a comparison and review on. Same family of engines.
Proper motor this is. I had the 3.6 sport premium with the 20 inch sepang alloys. It was a bit better looking than this one due to the spec but this one has the proper engine in it!!!!! Enjoy it mate!!!!!
I got an 04 Super V8 this summer and I love it, I've been working on overhauling the suspension and brakes and also just completed the dreaded "valley pipe" job and main radiator. I recorded my exploits and put them on my channel if you're interested in doing the work yourself. Next job is the Mechatronic socket on the gearbox and new transmission cooler lines. If you want to keep your car running in good order I would advise a detailed inspection to assess the condiiton of the bushes and drain refill the gearbox. Join the forums and download the (6000+ page) service document
That’s awesome, I’ll take a look at the channel. Fortunately this car has had all new discs and pads all round, it’s also had some suspension work and a recent gearbox service before I picked it up. Only thing at the moment is the power steering fluid needs changing
I bought the same , 50 yrs old now I bought one last month with previous owner spending over 16k on his 2 year ownership 😮😅 and further 5k from previous than him , Iv got a good one black on black with newly refurbished 20” sepang rims and love it!. Funny you say a Porsche as I also own one a 2006 997 c4S midnight blue with tan leather interior 😊
Finding this video is kind of crazy for two reasons. One being that I haven't seen your motorcycle channel in quite a while and I've been meaning to catch up on that, and two because I found this video due to my current fascination with early 2000s Jaaaags. I'm in my early twenties myself but my taste in cars is a bit different from most people my age lol. I look forward to more content from this channel
Make it louder. V8s have a nice habit of sounding civilised at low revs and only (ahem) fruity when you hit the gas. Mine has catalysts and tail boxes only and it's perfectly quiet pootling along through villages at >30, only but sounding gorgeous when you accelerate hard. It actually helps me rein it in in low limit areas :-) Let us know how the intake swap goes. - NB: That supercharger cover just lifts straight off - try it and see how much better it sounds!
Lovely Jag, I owned the XJ(350) age 22 too! Nice to see I am not the only one. I since sold it and now own a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, (I’m 23 now lol). Be happy to give any advice on the Jag as I had many highs and lows with that model, (mostly highs).
As a fellow owner of a XJR 2007 Portfolio edition and being 22 as well. I see nothing wrong of owning a car like this at our age as long as we don't act like kids behind the wheel lol...in a way this car is a transition in your life going from a boy to a man in my opinion, lovely example you got there mate!
Best decision ! Jaguars worth more than their values. I 've owned an XJ6 from 1997 XJR100 and it was my first car at 22years old. Totally agree with you, sold the XJ6 in 2020 and bought a XJR100 2 years ago. New BMW's are crap plastic engineered with no more driver consideration. Jaguars of 2000's are best values for money nowadays ! Long road to you and your nice cat.
Love the car as it is. But it is personal choice as to what you choose to do. Your intended changes aren’t too dramatic. Though the exhaust sounds good as is and fitting with the overall elegance. Interesting about road tax loophole on Japanese imports I saw in one of your replies. Been wary at taking a punt on an import as I worried about provenance. But you have made me reconsider and as the usual road tax is otherwise a bit steep albeit comparable to similar other brands, the loophole makes it more inviting - least until labour decide to close it🙄. Happy motoring.
I bought a minter XJ300 about 15 years ago, 3.2 six, lovely car. Had it for about 18 months. However it was ruinous to run on petrol, that was then never mind now. Sold it. I can’t blame you for getting one but I doubt this time next year you’ll still have it.
Lovely Darcy, i had one a silver one 15 years ago, loved it. I don’t do new cars and my current choice is a 2011 Mercedes E350 V6, love it quality German engineering. The old Jags are truly beautiful, congrats
Wonder if the 'leaping cat' on the bonnet complies with UK legislation and has passed the correct push/pull specification (leapers were only for US spec) - involved in a pedestrian accident might be a problem.
A lot of aluminum in the bodywork? It is ALL aluminum, chassis and body panels. The chassis is bonded and riveted aluminum, more like aircraft construction. I bought a 2006 XJ8 VDP LWB this past February, but I was 77 when I bought it, the car is a nice counterpoint to my 2016 Jaguar F-Type 3.0S manual transmission coupe. I think it is a sad thing that Jaguar is going all electric, that might be the death knell of the marque.
Brought a 2006 XJ LWB Sovereign, ex japan - (grade 4, meaning minor wear, no dents ) 120,000km (75,000mls) landed & road cert 1800 quid!!! 3rd year owning it, have only had to replace 2 back tyres, & radiator reservoir tank. 50quid to have radio/screens etc reset to English. ( I know something will go , some sensor will be like the what I paid for the whole car) If it craps out, dies tomorrow, i've had more than my money's worth of pleasure out of it already.
Beautiful car, lovely combo, the headlight washers have been around for a long time now. Think my first encounter with them was 95 with my dads top spec Mitsubishi Shogun😂 always nice addition to have
Congratulations! 🎉 What a stunning car! I agree with comments on boring new cars to choose from! I am currently looking for a 2 seater roadster/ sports car. Looking at the Mazda / Miata RF GT new for drives when I am not on the bike and with the hardtop function good for rainy days and roof off at the press of a button when the rain clears. But can this Mazda MX5 RF GT car be a new car that bridges a practical and fun car to drive with a feeling of old school rear wheel drive, driving experience? 🤔 (Practical with a hardtop function not looking at practical from a luggage perspective)
Currently running a Daimler Super 8 (4.2 s/c) its basically an XJR in a party dress. 8k miles a year over 2 years - epic. Yes Mr BMW tail gater it can scare you off
I had one of these, and it was a wolf in sheep’s clothing with refinement. As an ex-XKR driver I was told by Jaguar this was the best car they made at that time…bargin
At any age cars are cars, I had a Rolls Royce silver shadow at 26 and ran for 3 and a half years.😊 Jags are gorgeous I had a s type and it was awesome 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Same thoughts, but at the opposite age spectrum - lovely low mileage 2005 Lexus SC430 V8 hard top convertable for silly money compared to their initial price.
These are really great cars and that is a gorgeous example. I do think the leaper on the bonnet dates it a little but it’s a minor point. The engine sounds absolutely fine to me for a saloon but people with this engine are putting on Admesh exhaust systems for that V8 ’burble’.
The beauty of old cars is they are not overwhelmed with pointless gadgets that do little to improve the driving experience and usually take away from it...
I drove to the office today in my 2007 XJR and it made me happy the whole way. It is the best car I have ever owned.
Timeless design. It’s beautiful especially in that British racing green!

It was a 340-horsepower car, not a standard 265hp version
After owning it a few years at age 25, I updated it with another custom built/order Jaguar.
Glad you agree, you clearly have great taste!
Thank you Nick 👍🏼
2011 is a new car to Me anything after 2000 is new.
Superb classic and I think your spot on so much more well thought out and designed 👌☺️ I’d keep the exhaust as is it’s got that nice classic sound
Wonder if the 'leaping cat' on the bonnet complies with UK legislation and has passed the correct push/pull specification (leapers were only for US spec) - involved in a pedestrian accident might be a problem.
Beautiful car. I love old Jags. Classy cars especially the hood ornament
Me too 👍🏼
More content on this car please 🙏
I have a 76 XJS and a 77 Daimler Double Six.....a glutton for punishment but they are such lovely cars.
( I know something will go , some sensor will be like the what I paid for the whole car)
If it craps out, dies tomorrow, i've had more than my money's worth of pleasure out of it already.
Beautiful car, lovely combo, the headlight washers have been around for a long time now. Think my first encounter with them was 95 with my dads top spec Mitsubishi Shogun😂 always nice addition to have
Good Lad ! lol
Great motors !
22yrs old and still better looking than at least 95% of cars made for 2025 HANDS DOWN!
I used to work for a Jaguar specialist years ago, I've had 21 Jaguars, Mk10s ,xjs s and the last was an Etype which I sold to buy my first house!!
Jag will never look like this again. I hate their rebrand strategy.
Yes Mr BMW tail gater it can scare you off
Good leftfield punt. Not liking the wheels but it's class.
Everyone loves a Jag especially a supercharged V8 👍🏻
Have a 2007 CLS with 3 litre diesel injection turbo. £3500with less than 75K when I bought it.
It's an icon of a car......love it..❤😊
Beautiful machine 😊
cant go wrong with a JAAAAAAGGG
Brought myself a s type at 18 loved it replaced it with a xfs would love another s type
Very cool! You have great taste 😁
Just bought the x358 .. beware matey, an exhaust upgrade will sound nice but the droning on a cruise will drive you crazy
Sounds like it's got a very hushed interior when underway. Just how a Jag should be.
