- Freediving for some fine seafood on the West Coast of Scotland in the cold, rainy weather. Before diving we did a little fishing from the boat.
I always enjoy coastal foraging but these big juicy scallops are some of the best available.
Hi Tom, what loch did you goto on the west coast??. Great video. Thanks
Always wanted to do this
Do you ever find oysters? Would love to see a video on that!!!
Native oysters are very rare and should not be wild harvested by anyone. Pacific oysters are not yet making their way this far north. It’s only a matter of time until they adapt and start breeding in the wild up here. Both species are farmed up here - and I’m a very passionate supporter of oyster farming! Hopefully the natives will make a comeback soon!
Nice little video there, diving for scallops is a diall for next year!
Definitely - we should try and arrange trip when grownup life permits!
@@tjashton yes indeed definitely up for that!!
good result for a dive !! ....look up Cafe Delites creamy garlic scallops ...excellent recipe !!!
Nice, thanks. I'll give it a try
Some nice Scallops there Tom, you going to do a video cook up with them?
I should do at some point - maybe compare a few recipes...
Great video, how did you get into freediving? Is it best to get some lessons first
I used to scuba dive a lot but progressed on to freediving about 10 years ago. You should take a course but I didn’t. I learned from friends and was diligent about researching good protocol - but main thing is that I I didn’t push the limits.
Class video Tom! What are the best lochs on the west coast to get scallops?
The sound of Mull is decent. Loch Scridain has produced for me in the past. Otherwise its a case of hunting out patches that the commercial boats havent cleaned out. The spot in my video is private ranch - hence they are so numerous!
@@tjashton Thanks for the advice Tom! Hope they were delicious!
