- In this video i'm diving the West Coast of Scotland whilst on a trip with one of my best mates, we were targeting King Scallops and we got them!
Waking up to a perfect fresh morning, walking no further than 20 meters from where we had camped and entering the water. I took my Speargun in with me incase i came across a nice flatfish but really i was here for one thing. The famous Scottish King Scallop.
These guys were in a massive abundance being found in water as shallow as 3 meters. I collected what i needed to ensure myself and Victor were well fed.I also collected two sea urchins/kina for a yummy raw snack post dive. I found a broken Stanley blade too which of course belonged in the bin not the ocean.
The Scallops were enjoyed raw and cooked. Victor was abit cautious about eating one raw with me but he was instantly converted on consumption.
With the others we tried to grill but sadly it malfunctioned so we cooked them in their shells on the stove. My Nan had given me some of her famous Raspberry Jam for the trip and i knew the combo would be out of this world.
Big shout out to the Highland Spearo for some tips and my Nan for the epic Jam
All Scallops were of legal size and were taken for consumption, I abide by catch, size limits, daily takes and no fish zones. Over the past 4 years now I have made the commitment to no longer buy fish so I only eat the fish catch. Spearfishing is the most sustainable form of fishing on the planet, it is also the most environmentally friendly form of fishing.
Let me know what you think of the video in the comments section. Anyway I hope you guys enjoyed the video and don’t be afraid to like, share and subscribe for more Spearfishing!

Cheers for the shout out mate. Glad you enjoyed them.
Good tip for the urchin's is a pair of pliers. Stab them in the mouth then open them. Usually splits it perfectly in two 🤙🏻
Least i can do bud, like i said if you’re ever in Aus give me a shout.
Nice will give it a go on my next dive
soo nice,, love to watch you diving
Thank you :)
Beautiful scenery! Love the mammal intro!
It was indeed, cheers 🤙🏼
Pretty sure that Stanley knife is a murder weapon 😂 man the meat in those scallops is bloody outrageous big compared to the scallops we get here
🤣🤣 i suspect about the same, i know they are monsters, i think now ive been too spoilt here
I love how they always pick up litter its great to see people working to clean our oceans!
Its important if im taking from the ocean i can also make it a better environment right?
Living the dream ...... great footage 👍👍
Thanks man! Great part of the world
Dude you are living my dream. Kudos! Epic video. Thanks.
Thanks man, get out there and get stuck into them. Soo epic!
What thickness of suit you wearing to be so cold? Ive dived in winter and never once shivered
I had a 5mm but it had its 10th birthday not to long back, my hood leaks so my head got cold + diving with 1.5mm socks and 1.5mm gloves with holes.
My dive gear is equipped for Aussie waters combined with the fact im now pretty used to diving in 20+ degree water i felt it
Duuuude those scallops & kina (sea urchin) had my mouth watering 😍😍😍😍 love the addition of the scientific names too mate
Churrr bro there were delicious too
@@WetMammal oath they looked it
Wow! I would love to free dive for scallops one day. They taste amazing! In fact I’m heading to Scotland in October hopefully so might have to give it a go. How deep do you normally find them? I’ve hardly done any diving before so a little scared of diving deep currently! Nice video!
I highly recommend it! These guys were between 6 - 8 meters, you will just need a really warm wetsuit, even with mine i got cold haha. Thank you :)
Wet Mammal cheers!
Watching from Singapore. Awesome seafoods...
Awesome, thank you :)
Glad you like our miserable country, the sky may be grey and the mountains high but hope the food and wildlife makes up for that, would love to try spearfishing and catching food for my own one day
I loved it, actually have some Scottish routes and hiking through the highlands just felt right! You definitely should
Cool vid, those were some big scallops and the urchin was full of goodies, sometimes when I pick them their empty, no uni.
Thank you! I know they are the biggest ive ever had. Very lucky with the Urchins this time, but i know that feeling when youve cracked them and there is nothing 😭
absolut fan of the channel
Thanks Jona! 🤙🏼
Haha, saw your story about the hotel WiFi, glad you got it up!
We got there in the end haha

Sucses brother,,one breath from indonesia, buton island
Would love to come out and spearfish there one day!
Bro i cannot fucking believe you just ate that raw scallop like that
I've seen black sea urchins in Scotland with longer spines, are these also edible?
Yes they are bloody good too
Lol I actually came back to this video bc I found myself some live urchin
Amazing!!! How did they taste Trish?
@@WetMammal they were immaculate, lowkey sad I don’t always have access to fresh urchin 😂
Cool
I live in scotland
Where...
The west coast haha
Good enough to be honest
Nice video bud. Where abouts were you? West coast?
Thanks man, yeah i was on the west coast :)
What you're eating from the Sea Urchin are basicly milt and roe, which means sperm and eggs. I would be scared to eat that scallop raw to be honest, they could have parasites. But cooked - they look absolutely fantastic. I even begun drooling, haha.
Yes indeed but they are delicious, as for parasites its important to assess the risk based on the local reports of parasites and what have you. Then enjoy at your own risk :)
Hello , what is the location of that place?:)
Hi, its on the west coast of Scotland :)
@@WetMammal where abouts on the west coast?
@@thegoat4033 Sorry man I can't give away the location it would be seen by thousands of people interested in going to the same spot and then there wouldn't be any left. But honestly jump in the water on the west coast and dive and you'll find plenty they are prolific in most bays
