Kartal created a difficult challenge for me against a much smarter Advance Wars AI.

actually it would be more intense since if he was not stupid the other cos would not believe that Andy did not take over multiple fronts
Smart Andy like, "What's an airport, again? I haven't had to think about it since I got into multidimensional time traveling hypersonic galactic warfare."
It's impressive that Mangs decided to give himself a handycap of never using one of his three starting bases, even though it was a hard map he never played before! I wouldn't have the courage to do so.

To be fair, I didn't notice it either, but in my defense I just woke up.

We would hear a lot fewer airport jokes, for one thing.

6:29 This move would've been a good addition to your Transport unit video, you didn't have to transport the Infantry so close to the base. When gigabraining, not only you have to take the Infantry's movement into account when you're loading the unit, but also when you drop it off. You don't want to transport your infantry right where they need to go, but it's better to drop them where they can just reach the destination on their next turn, saving some copter fuel (also here they could've benefitted from the mountain's defense and vision).
Added benefit of not needing to worry about an AA popping out of a forest, if you can hide your TC right next to some mountains and load infantry a couple tiles away from the base. The AI might not be able to reach the infantry that way, too.
Mangs was so confident that he would win that he even used only 2 of his 3 starting factories, just to give andy a starting chance.
Yeah, that was it, he totally saw it, no way he didn't see the base there, right?
The shapes and colors blend pretty well, so I don't blame him. I've had this happen to me some times in the war room XD The top of the HQ semi-hides it.

You didn't need to specify that there was an advanced AI. Andy not being controlled by Mangs makes him not stupid by default.
Actually it would also be really interesting to see what would happen if you pit two AIs against each other on competitive styled maps and see objectively which would perform the best.

I would like to mention that Andy and Hawke are Necromancers. They are the only COs that can heal infantry off of properties, several miles away them too, so you can't make the excuse of "they were just transporting new soldiers" too.
They just use Phoenix Downs. Wiping out a unit counts as a cutscene death so it stops working because potato.

Whew! Mangs cut it really close just barely won! I felt tense as much as Mangs did, he fumbled a bit at the beginning but came to his senses and focused on capturing and securing Andy’s Candies lmao (the pun), good show Mangs and thank you Kartal for these, please do more.

I guess you don’t need to deploy on every base against the AI. Maybe he chose not to use it.
He definitely just didn't see it, as early on it would be very advantageous to use it. Later on it does become more viable to ignore some bases in the back when you have so many.

You joining the 10 hp infantry into the 9 hp infantry instead of using it to capture the city was why you didn't win.

One idea I have for something like this would be a recreation of the final mission against Sturm in AW1 but you play as just Sonja and the map itself is Fog of War.
This was such a good match.

I hate how the Black Hole palette is light grey in this game instead of dark grey light Advance Wars 1. You can especially notice it here since it's Orange Star units and not the new Black Hole ones. Someone should make a hack reverting this.
Actually, now I'm interested in seeing AW1 or AW2 campagns with such an IA.

It sure does look more challenging right now, but to truly see if it is any better... Well, you have to see how it reacts - and, of course, to see if it reacts differently in different situation. Fog of war doesn't do any good in proving if ai is better.

Hey, just a question about CO's. Eagle hard counters Andy right? Since Andy wants drawn out long fights where he can repair and eagle has a 2 turn nuke with strike

The AI doesn't impress me at all. Sure it is more aggressive, but the map is still designed around very specific parameters. So the AI was probably configured to build a ton of anti-air & fighter to counter Eagle, build indirects & target infantry first to interrupt captures (anti-air are a bonus here). And Andy, while not the best, is still a very good pick in a capture game.
Also the map puts you at a big disadvantage, just like in the first one, where only you was impaired by the terrain. The AI can start capturing 2 of your properties on day 2 with only 2 infantry, while if you play optimally (i.e. not blind) you can only do the same on day 4, day 3 if you build 2 transports (which the AI doesn't need). Also, the AI starts with a base very close to your starting area, This could have been pretty devastating if Mangs hadn't check it out first.
If you compare this to the AI of the vanilla game, it's a huge step up.
The fact that Kartal is able to design a map that challenges you while not giving the AI any starting units is super impressive.
Whoever dislikes this is a REAL Andy.
