    Thanks so much. This place is really on the map. I loved your commentary with information about the Keas and glad to hear that they are coming back a bit in some places.
    The weather you had was sensational. What time of year was it?
    Your insight about the glacier was a real antidote to the feeling of loss with the retreating ice. It’s the same in the places we visited in Alaska too. The idea that we are privileged to see it now as they will likely disappear is thoughtful.
    Best wishes

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the commentary and found the information about the Keas insightful. The footage was captured during February. In the summer months, typically between December and February, the weather in that region is indeed sensational. It's bittersweet to witness the effects of climate change on glaciers, but you're right, it's a privilege to appreciate their beauty while we can. Best wishes to you as well!

      Thanks for that. The weather is a tricky thing but I’ve had good luck at that time of year too. But good to bear in mind for the future trips hopefully.

      Exactly, with weather sometime luck is the biggest factor.

    This is fantastic! Would you know how to get to the trailhead by bus? Or no car? Cheers!

      @GlobalTravelStories  3 місяці тому

      I believe the only way is by car. The start of the trail is Fantail Falls between Wanaka and Haast.

    Who are the 100% dingbats standing under the terminal face of an active glacier?

    Awesome video! Would you say it's pretty straightforward hiking from the hut to the glacier? I've read it's unmarked and pretty rocky and steep. Would you say it's still worthwhile to do the whole thing in a day?

      I suppose it’s always subjective. It is quite rocky and steep to the glacier but I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous or anything. Doing it in a day would certainly be long and difficult but not impossible, maybe 8-10hrs I would guess..
