What an amazing knife. That pattern is just beautiful. Such a great show of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This goes to show people why Damascus is so expensive to buy, it's the amount of both time and effort that go into making it. The beauty of the pattern is the pay off. Well done and well made.
i think its disgusting how there is no pride of work in most of the 'crafts' ppl still out there. thats what makes this so refreshing. thank you Manuel. once you learn how to make something. the reasons and nuisances behind WHY you make it a certain way versus another. once you master form and function, some of us.. move on to beauty. i have to say, if you havent mastered that you are close. this was so amazing. i only wish the audio was better. talk to us man. we definitely want to hear what it is you have to say. im new to your channel and will be watching more but if you could do a vid talking just about Damascus patterns and how you make each one... thatd be great
Overkill???? You people missed it entirely.... The process.... the journey.... the sweat.... the love.... Absolutely fantastic Manuel. ....Phenomenal artistry!
Beautiful! Anyone who considers Damascus steel overkill really has missed the point. Alchemy, passion and beauty combined. I once owned a shotgun with Damascus steel barrels and it was a thing of beauty.
I am a 77 year old woman and I have never seen this done before and the work that goes into this is amazing. I know you must sell these and it must be torture letting them go. Thank you
You are a true ARTIST! Very few can conceive the concept yet bring a vision to fruition. Your meticulous with your hammer and welding. BRAVO! Thank you for your video!
Mi hijo está aprendiendo español y él ayudó escribir esto (dice "perdoname por algunos errores"): Gracias por compartir esta obra hermosa. Yo he visto su vídeo muchas veces y lo disfruto cada vez. ¡Espero ver más!
I've made a few blades myself but...that was probably the most beautiful piece I have ever seen. It shows the work and the love of the art you have. Many Thanks
What a total boatload of work! But the final results were so worth it. It does my heart good to see craftsmanship on this high a level. Mr. Quiroga, you are one of my new heroes. I even liked the music you chose for the video, and I normally do not care for music in instructional videos. Really, I am just so impressed. Thank you!
This video not only shows craftsmanship and dedication but it also shows creativity when it comes to the blade itself. I have seen and created a lot of blades before but this blade is just beyond amazing and beyond anything I would ever be able to create out of a few peaces of steel. Thank you for sharing this amazing blade with us all
That has got to be THE PRETTIEST pattern welded Damascus example I think I have ever seen..........................man................I am in awe of your talent brother, great job !
This knife is a true work of vision, patience, and craftsmanship. Manuel, YOU ARE A TRUE ARTISAN!! I have worked with metals most of my life as a Master Plumber, Welder, and Steamfitter and appreciate the steps which you took to create this. It is absolutely STUNNING. P.S. The music is as classy as yourself, and the video is very well done. Muy Bueno!!
Manuel, This one just popped up on my screen. Thank you so very much for the inspiration. This is just gorgeous and so masterfully done. A true creation of Art. Again, thank you for sharing this great work.
At every single point on this video, I found myself asking "Why on earth are you doing this, and what possible purpose could it serve?" Then I realised what an absolute craftsman you are, and what a difference attention to detail makes. That is, quite simply, the most beautiful blade I have ever seen. Thank you so much for the video!
This is incredibly beautiful, Thank you so much Manuel. If anyone in Brisbane, Australia reads this comment and would like an obsessive compulsive apprentice.... I'm yours providing that your standards are that of Manuel's.
Wait a second... you made that awesome knife AND wrote all the music in the video??? Well done, sir. That last catchy tune has been stuck in my head all day :)
I just watched this video again and still can not stare at that pattern long enough!! It is the best I have ever seen. I will I had even a tiny blade of this art.
Manuel, that is absolutely amazing! I had no idea where your folding technique was heading, I was astonished at what an incredible display of skill and art you created! Truely an awe inspiring piece!
But this imitation can not go beyond a visual similarity. It is not "damascus" steel. It is not "damascus" to glue and pattern two steel types. The raw material of the "Damascus" steel is a kind of steel called "Wootz" steel. The "Wootz" steel is produced from a different iron ore. "Wootz" is a special type of steel produced in India-Sri Lanka. Please investigate.
Nice vid! I'm a big fan of your power hammer, the design is simple, effective and well thought out. I like the forging press too, except for the poor little pump that can't keep up with that giant cylinder! Awesome work, thanks for sharing it with the world!
My friend, that is a masterpiece and probably very very hard to duplicate. I am in awe of your skills and workmanship. That is a Master Blade if ever there was one IMO. Thanks for sharing with us.
THAT KNIFE LOOKS INCREDIBLE!!! I'm just starting out blacksmithing right now; but I would consider myself a complete success if I make something like that! Thanks for the video and thanks for the knowledge! I just hope I can eventually put the knowledge to good use. You are a MASTER!!!
Fantastic work, I am very impressed with the machinery you have. I love burning metal myself. I am curious why you did not saw that beautiful billet in half, length wise, to create 2 blades? It appeared to have the thickness to do that. Great work, keep it up!
Thanks man! To your question: the pattern wouldn't be even if I cut it lenghwise. Twisted patterns are all about even simetry on grinding of both sides. And the true beauty is deep inside, thats why its left SO thick after forging.
I'm curious what the total hours put into this knife were. I gotta say if I had a nice that was that beautiful I'd be afraid to use it for anything. :) Truly great work man.
Instead of putting a handle on it, leaving some material to shape the handle out of would have been a great. Just leave the handle are with a rougher finish for gripping before the acid etching to bring out the pattern.
Wow, damascus is such a stunning material. I really wish I had the tools to forge one and make a small utility knife. If I were you I'd be so proud to say I made that!
The first song is "Un Dia Como Hoy" (translated "on a day like today) by Mathias Quiroga from his album "Hombre Lejano". Check it out at mathiasquiroga.bandcamp.com/
eres un maestro mis respetos para dicho trabajo, desde ninio siempre admire esas obras de arte pero en mi pueblo ya se dejaron d hacer y pense nunca mas volver a verlas gracias por el video y la catedra de metalurgia y tratado de metales estupendo
Excellent work, would love to see a handle and sheath with it. The standout feature to me was the consistent spacing from the edge to the pattern overlap. Excellent.

exactly !
This is what dedication to your craft looks like
no such thing as overkill in art

Высшая лига! Привет из Белоруссии!
Beautiful work of art...
Some people don't realise the work and understanding of different metals that has gone into this...
A true craftsman...
I AM BLOWN AWAY. What an incredible display of craftsmanship.
What a total boatload of work! But the final results were so worth it. It does my heart good to see craftsmanship on this high a level. Mr. Quiroga, you are one of my new heroes. could not have said it better myself! im not a fan either of music in most videos, but i replayed parts of this just for the music. lmao
Beautiful pattern. The music was amazing. I don’t speak Spanish, but I do speak music. It was fantastic.
This video not only shows craftsmanship and dedication but it also shows creativity when it comes to the blade itself. I have seen and created a lot of blades before but this blade is just beyond amazing and beyond anything I would ever be able to create out of a few peaces of steel.
Thank you for sharing this amazing blade with us all
Thank you man
Manuel Quiroga how much?
Absolutely awesome. I was a ship fitter and iron shop worker for 30 years and to watch you is amazing. You are a true artist.
Thank you man, I'm glad you enjoyed it
That has got to be THE PRETTIEST pattern welded Damascus example I think I have ever seen..........................man................I am in awe of your talent brother, great job !
Thank you Darrell
This is the best Damascus video ever. Formidable.

Thanks a lot Michael!
master welder my ass
Manuel, This one just popped up on my screen. Thank you so very much for the inspiration. This is just gorgeous and so masterfully done. A true creation of Art. Again, thank you for sharing this great work.
Vale la pena semejante laburo, al ver el resultado final la satisfacción no debe caber en el cuerpo. Un capo. Muy buen video y hermoso filo.
Wow!Very nice Damascus.A lot of work involved but the end result is well worth all that effort.Well done Manuel.
Such a beautiful pattern... So impressive.... and I love your power hammer's design too. Thanks for sharing!
Ugh, i wish Manuel would sell knives online, this is pure craftmanship, and pure art...this is amazing!
At every single point on this video, I found myself asking "Why on earth are you doing this, and what possible purpose could it serve?"
Then I realised what an absolute craftsman you are, and what a difference attention to detail makes. That is, quite simply, the most beautiful blade I have ever seen.
Thank you so much for the video!
This is the most beautiful and intricate damascus pattern I have ever seen.
The background music is very enjoyable too.
World class talent.
Not overkill, its called passion and pride. Incredible piece of work, you should be damn proud of it.

Agreed
As a 78 year retired Arch' & Eng', i appreciate and enjoyed every bit of your Video..❗🙇♂️👍🏻
This is incredibly beautiful, Thank you so much Manuel. If anyone in Brisbane, Australia reads this comment and would like an obsessive compulsive apprentice.... I'm yours providing that your standards are that of Manuel's.
This is the best Damascus I've ever seen! And the best Jelly roll Damascus by far.
Wait a second... you made that awesome knife AND wrote all the music in the video???
Well done, sir. That last catchy tune has been stuck in my head all day :)
doh just realized the knife is Manuel and the music is Mathias. different guys
still this video is the bees knees
The craftmanship was inspiring and the music that accompanied the video made this a blissful journey. Thank you for the video!
This video was as much a piece of art as the knife itself. Bravo!
I just watched this video again and still can not stare at that pattern long enough!! It is the best I have ever seen. I will I had even a tiny blade of this art.
This is art. This is absolutly amazing, great job!!
Manuel, that is absolutely amazing! I had no idea where your folding technique was heading, I was astonished at what an incredible display of skill and art you created! Truely an awe inspiring piece!

Great work. Best design I have ever seen. You are a pro dude.
Beautiful. This pattern reminds me of some of the really fine damascus barrels from the golden age of shotguns. Amazing craftsmanship.
That was amazing and thanks for sharing your talents.
Great video! The hammers forging made a music of their own and your editing complimented it very well. Thank you for sharing.
well must say that's might be the most beautiful steel I've seen! amazing work!:D

Easily the most beautiful piece of damascus steel I have ever seen. It's almost too perfect to be real. Great job sir.
Nice vid! I'm a big fan of your power hammer, the design is simple, effective and well thought out. I like the forging press too, except for the poor little pump that can't keep up with that giant cylinder! Awesome work, thanks for sharing it with the world!
Ikolkkkkmkkk
I got the impression the system just needs bleeding (air might be causing the delay when reversing direction).
This pattern reminds me of water flowing around stones in a slow moving river bed. It is absolutely beautiful. TY for the video.
Very nice .man that song in the beginning is epic
My friend, that is a masterpiece and probably very very hard to duplicate. I am in awe of your skills and workmanship. That is a Master Blade if ever there was one IMO. Thanks for sharing with us.

Ahh sooo, that's why you left it sooo thick and ground away all that material. Makes sense. Awesome work man.
what a beautiful blade
Absolutely beautiful work, and good music too. Thanks for sharing your art.

Now I really understand why Damascus steel is sooooooo expensive
Not only the time and craftsmanship but, the expense of operating all the equipment.
its not so expensive if made with china child labor, check ebay for it
avo That's sadly true.
yes that is art ,not only knife 。
This is called pattern welded steel, true “Damascus” steel is called Wootz steel
Espectacular!!! Uno de los cuchillos más bonitos de damasco que he visto, impresionante trabajo. Sin palabras!!!
Gracias, la tinta es exactamente eso, tinta de serigrafia.
the first package what did you do where did you put it away? 1:25
Excellent video and exceptional workmanship! BEAUTIFUL work!
I would LOVE to own one of your pieces. Absolutely outstanding!
What's the name of the song and artist for the intro
Exactly? What’s the name of it? 5 years after your comment and Shazam still can’t discover the title of it.
Easily the most beautiful damascus piece I've seen. A true artisan.
Wow... just WOW
Exceptional. It's a joy to watch a master craftsman at work, and to see the finished piece after so many hours of effort.
Incredible work!!
what do you use to etch, and how many tons is your press?
Excellent work, would love to see a handle and sheath with it. The standout feature to me was the consistent spacing from the edge to the pattern overlap. Excellent.
Is it just me or does his power hammer look like a big hot steel eating robot from Futurama or similar?
Yeah Bender
Sin palabras....un auténtico maestro con diferencia....que máquina eres
Almost too pretty to use!

Demasiado trabajo!!! Muy bonito, eres el puto amo.
Increíble amigo. Uno de los mejores damascos que e visto sin duda.
The pattern you created on this blade is phenomenal! I can only imagine how proud you are of this work. Absolutely stunning.
Wow. Me encanta. Felizidades...Hermoso trabajo!!
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. How anyone could say they didn't like this is beyond nutts.
Amazing how you laid the blade out to follow the curve in the pattern perfectly. I am jealous.
Wow...a lot of work but the results are beautiful. Definitely a true work of art.
Fantastic work.Amazing pattern. Hope you are still making this.
Gran trabajo Manuel, le felicito
