I think the truth about Matsuno being hired is simply that he applied to Squaresoft and when Sakaguchi saw, he invited Matsuno and members of the team who worked on the game Sakaguchi was such a fan of, to work at Square. That would make both stories true. Pure chance that Matsuno put his application in at the right time, signalling that he was interested and opening the door for Sakaguchi to invite him without looking like he was poaching talent from a struggling studio.
Interestingly, Ivalice is the most fleshed-out world out of all of FF’s different worlds. Here’s hoping we get a true sequel (in HD-2D) or else an HD-2D remake of FF Tactics.
I found Deep Dungeon totally on my own, via thorough gameplay, in my 100% run of the PS1 version as a teen, and it BLEW ME AWAY. Like: “OMG WHAT IS THIS!?! What are these LEVEL NAMES? Why is it all dark and what the HELL could be at the bottom?!” I was shocked at all the cool buried treasures (as another thing I did was to search every tile of every map and steal every unique stealable item.) When I saw the boss use the summon I didn’t have, it became clear to me that that’s how you learned it, and I reset so I could bring my summoner (who I leaned on heavily in many instances anyway) and learn it. I was very pleased that I also got a Byblos, and I always puzzled at wtf he was doing down there if he was a friendly, and why he chose to go against his master.
Innocent/Atheist was a ridiculously powerful status. I didn't realize it when I played while young, but I'd love to explore this more when looking back.
6:45 just use construct 8. That and the javelin ii/escutcheon ii on nelveska temple columns makes him mandatory as a stepping stone and construct 7 a bit challenging as you can't use a glacial gun for that innocent status. No way anything not instant speed outside maybe quick, works in that battle as the monsters are fast and Furious lol. Marach is a close 2nd given solution reliably lowers by 20 to make his netherseer stuff better (Excalibur knight with haste works). People tend to omit that raising bravery (outside of guaranteed steel or self-casting ramza/luso shout), and praise for faith miss half the time, and are exhausting especially for faith as you only Inflict status to my knowledge as opposed to raising it a bunch of times to farm and have 1 point carry over. Did have a magickal Refrain vid to help marach that has solution since the Dancers are awful late game since their own speed is faster than dances and stats are too high for -1 randomization or 20 hp damage to matter, where bards can actually be win more in a magick (lol k like mortal kombat) party (or speed based if using mustadio and Balthier's arm/leg shot). Just sucks if the Bardsong (one word lol ff style) only works on himself, but it is also slow and they both got low stat growths.
The class system gives them so much replay value and the deep political story is very engrossing. FFT is my favorite FF spinoff although in reality it is more of a sequel to Tactics Ogre than anything else. My only complaint is that the special characters like Orlandu and Agrias are so overpowered they break the game. Of course you don't have to use them and I've done runs with no story characters to add challenge and have heard of Ramza only runs, but that is beyond my skill level.
@@acidwizard6528 Agrias isn't overpowered at all. TL:DR People tend to overrate her and Samurais (who need katanas to be unlocked chapter 2 and better ones chapter 3) because they're very flashy with mid-game abilities. Hamedo/First Strike is the most overrated ability to use for 1300 JP as my lance screwed Elmdor just outside his range. You'd have to work to have Agrias be a geomancer to have higher physical attack, and attack up, as holy knight has low attack and it takes forever to learn lightning stab/holy explosion. Going to state a few more broken things below if you don't mind the wall of text. It's really easier just to make a brawler ninja, dragoon with ranged attack (8 jump, 2 lance)/steal/concentration, or even chapter 1 monk with equip armor for early equipment (and lifefont/auto potion is an equalizer for Wiegraf/Gaffgarion, and nature's wrath for free geomancy counters to not waste on skills for every land are really good if you don't want direct invincibility from manafont/mana shield to walk off any pain so long as you have 1MP). The mediator/orator with entice/stall to have enemies not have a turn if not join permanently, with boosted chances by arcane strength (and learning quick from the time mage) is a prep time win button. Chapter 4 is a gimme game as bosses are too slow to have turns, enemies will heal 30/300 hp with potions or use chapter 1 defend, and Orlandu is only overpowered by common sense with excalibur/thief's hat (Agrias cannot equip this as a holy knight for the speed boost) equipped and much higher attack and abilities. You just play it to solo the midlight deep/deep dungeon with onion equipment, that doesn't even need mastery (I'd just use the shield and armor and mount a chocobo to be nearly invincible). Even Rapha/Marach are OP if you become a chapter 3 dark knight as they join with huge stat boosts at level 60+ (like the black chocobo). Lucavi can be easily beaten with the oracle/mystic's invigoration/life drain doing 25% (like how time mage's graviga does 50% without any resistant enemy, which I even did a vid on math skill and a mime mimicking it). i don't know about that.. "traitor" as you say, its just like chrm, it just last longer and can't be "cured" , and allow you to recruit after the fight, but in fight wise, is the same effect. Its like if you have poison, that stop at 10% hp , or a poison that can kill , its the same poison, just different effect, so i wouldn't call it "unique" Faith and brave tho are unique to tactics like vampire too ^^

What about chicken? Was that not a FFT exclusive status effect? If you used the Orator skill, Threaten/Intimidate, to diminish an enemy's Bravery, they become cowardly, and if diminished even further, they turn into a cute little defenseless chicken sprite and cannot act.
Playing FFT as a child long ago it froze on and off, this was unfortunately common idk if due to the ps or a bad cd. However one time it didn’t quite freeze but instead glitched when I was changing jobs, and this caused all hidden jobs to be seen and their prerequisite job lvls to be unlocked. In there were Holy Knight, and also one or two more jobs that I now don’t remember. Unfortunately even though I gained the necessary job-lvls to unlock them they never became available so I guess the weren’t implemented for whatever reasons.
I've always thought Loffrey (Rofel) from the Knight Templars was the cut Lucavi Rofocale, as only he and Cletienne know all about the Lucavi, yet are not seen as normal demons in game when they are defeated, unlike Celia and Lettie for example (Ramza does mention he feels demonic energies from them, but they never turn into Ultima Demons). All Templars seem to possess auracite (Volmarv, Isilud, Meliadoul, Wiegraf) so it wouldn't surprise me he also possesed one (he's the one to give Capricorn to Dycedarg too). He uses the same Crush abilities in FF14 , is found technically where you fight Rofel in Tactics and even talks like him. Another candidate would be Barich , as he is fought right after , and was actually brought back to life by an auracite AND he's a Sagitarius, his scenario is an awful lot like Elmdor, who dies, sells his soul to come back and become Lucavi. (he doesn't use crush abilities tho). I'd say both are good candidates and I always felt like something was cut from those fights, like you know, a Lucavi phase, as Rofel's and especially Cletiennes's fights are extremely underwhelming.
Not exactly a status effect, but I think this was the only Final Fantasy game that also allowed you to permanently turn any of your generic units, including generic humans, into a Malboro. You just need a unti with Beastmaster and a Malboro Spores: Coat the target in malboro spores, turning it into a malboro. The effect is permanent even after battle and cannot be reverted by any means.
i love watchin these fft videos to find out if i dont know something, i feel like i know all about the game but you never know. Today I learned the secret zodiac boss name was Elidibus which is also in FFXIV. I kinda knew the name but never made the connection.
I’ve been playing FFXII and I want to play Tactics, but I can’t because it’s not on anything I own… unless it’s on Steam. It’s probably on Steam now that I think of it. Edit: It’s not, but it is on Mobile!
From what I gather, Ivalice isn’t its own world, but a region that exists within Etherys from XIV. Why else would locations from Ivalice be found as ruins during the Return to Ivalice alliance raid series?
Queklan looks an awful lot like Ogie Boogie and that was a popular movie in the Japans I hear. I've heard praytell that they added elements to the game to make popular content available such as Cloud (and later Beltheir) Queklan/Oogie Boogie, and the 13 signs thing. I wonder if there is more to be posited this way in this very complex game?
I've been playing this game for the last week. I've never finished it but I'm getting close this time. (I think?) I keep thinking while playing it, "they should remake it". I'd really like to see a tactics game with modern visuals.
Okay... I like your delve into Final Fantasy, and Tactics... but you know this is a little clickbait-y? I'm sure you do. But just keep rolling on your great delving into these games. You'll get followers. Subscribed.
I still think the most interesting fact is that we are still waiting for it to be on Steam, Switch, calculator... anything. I'm desperate, Squeenix! Lemme play the game on a newer gen system. We got the Pixel Remaster, which admittedly wasn't stellar or anything but it was something. Or how about the VIII Remaster on the Switch? I just wanna play FFT again, preferably War of the Lions, on a newer-gen console, dangit! And I don't wanna hafta resort to mods and emulators to do it! Do you HATE MONEY or something?!
I find it frustrating that FFT's PSP port was so borked with the awful slowdown but also the sounds are borked badly and even the music has issues, instruments will not fade as they sometimes should, some midis sound a bit off. I, love, FFT so all those problems drove me up the wall. Thankfully the PSOne Classics version worked perfectly on PSP
Been seriously dying for a new FF Tactics game for years. I enjoyed the GBA and DS iterations but both failed to capture the same feeling as the original (I played the Original last, and its by far the best of the three). I actually enjoy these spinoffs more than the main series FF games, and Fire Emblem has been without a proper competitor for far too long. Come on Square, I know FF14 is your cash cow but can we get a new Tactics game?
I'm a simple man, I see a thumbnail with Ramza, I click it.
But do you click like for Ramza?
Any FFT character for that matter
Literally same thing happened to me just now
Best game ever made
This is the way

Never get tired if hearing more about the best FF game ever, if not best game ever period.
Tactics war of lions is my second favorite game next to front mission 3
Would love to see you guys do a video on Tactics Advance. The first Final Fantasy I ever finished!
i love watchin these fft videos to find out if i dont know something, i feel like i know all about the game but you never know. Today I learned the secret zodiac boss name was Elidibus which is also in FFXIV. I kinda knew the name but never made the connection.
Wow this was deep. Love it
I love this game, and this video. Well done.
'FFT is my favorite game, I'm sure I know all of these'
Famous last words.
Yay for new FFT content, thank you!!😍😍😍
Such a top tear game. I’d love to see not only more FF games in this style but more games in general.
I’ve been playing FFXII and I want to play Tactics, but I can’t because it’s not on anything I own… unless it’s on Steam. It’s probably on Steam now that I think of it.
Edit: It’s not, but it is on Mobile!
I'm very much hoping this is rectified for the 25th anniversary
From what I gather, Ivalice isn’t its own world, but a region that exists within Etherys from XIV. Why else would locations from Ivalice be found as ruins during the Return to Ivalice alliance raid series?
FFT is my favorite one and holds a special place in my heart as the first FF I've beaten! Thanks for all these facts!
Tactics Ogre Reborn HYPE! Still love FFT more though...
Tactics is my favorite of the FF franchise.
FFT is one of my favorite FF series
War of the Visions is bringing back the tactics Collab after 2 years.
(I think?)
I keep thinking while playing it, "they should remake it". I'd really like to see a tactics game with modern visuals.
Tactics was the first Final Fantasy game, other than Mystic Quest, that I ever finished.
Best FF, numbered or not, if you breath you agree
Ah FFT, Ogre Battle's estranged cousin...
I'll never forget doing the level down trick to max my stats and completely ruining the game with math skill holy.
Getting a Calculator in the first couple of missions trivializes the game.
Isn't the chicken status that happens when your bravery gets too low also exclusive to FFT?
you can get chicken status in XIV during an A Realm Reborn trial unlocked as part of the Hildebrand sidequests.
@@kawaxiv I’m there right now😆
Well, it's in WotV.
Yeeeesssssss! Super good vid. Thank you so much!
I have done this game multiple ways.
my favorite turn baced game and one of my fav games ever.
love this
Thank you for this
This is the way!
Okay... I like your delve into Final Fantasy, and Tactics... but you know this is a little clickbait-y?
I'm sure you do. But just keep rolling on your great delving into these games. You'll get followers.
Subscribed.
What music do you got playing in the background?
One of the only tactical games I actually finished lol
I still think the most interesting fact is that we are still waiting for it to be on Steam, Switch, calculator... anything. I'm desperate, Squeenix! Lemme play the game on a newer gen system. We got the Pixel Remaster, which admittedly wasn't stellar or anything but it was something. Or how about the VIII Remaster on the Switch? I just wanna play FFT again, preferably War of the Lions, on a newer-gen console, dangit! And I don't wanna hafta resort to mods and emulators to do it! Do you HATE MONEY or something?!
I still need to play Tactics. It's just SRPGs were never my favorites
I enjoy content about fft more than I enjoyed playing it lol
I find it frustrating that FFT's PSP port was so borked with the awful slowdown but also the sounds are borked badly and even the music has issues, instruments will not fade as they sometimes should, some midis sound a bit off.
I, love, FFT so all those problems drove me up the wall. Thankfully the PSOne Classics version worked perfectly on PSP
"WAH!" - The sound all men make when they die.
"WHEE!" The sound all women make when they die.
8:56 WTH, Is this Sephiroth?
What song is playing around 5:00?
best among the best
Been seriously dying for a new FF Tactics game for years. I enjoyed the GBA and DS iterations but both failed to capture the same feeling as the original (I played the Original last, and its by far the best of the three). I actually enjoy these spinoffs more than the main series FF games, and Fire Emblem has been without a proper competitor for far too long. Come on Square, I know FF14 is your cash cow but can we get a new Tactics game?
Knew a guy in highschool all he did is talk about war of the lions he could probably help y'all for the next video haha
ivalice my favorite region
#freefinalfantasytactics
25th anniversary has to have some news coming tomorrow
I wonder if a FF tactics open world would be good
I love those game so fucking bad man ❤
Only in the ps1 version, can you steal the full genji armor. 😢
I need a Steam release for Tactics so bad. I hope that Nvidia leak ends up being true.
FFT the 🐐 game
It still seems ridiculous to me SE hasn't revived this with a new title for current platforms.
