    I really like both of my Lamacas, their handles are just dreamy and super nice heads. Yes, agree it can be sticky in some wood, but you proved they can split even with the low cheeks. Lane, if you're reading, we need more ax science. Miss you, dude!

      You have this one and the work axe? Or the cruiser? Yes, I miss Lane’s vids too.

      @@KevinsDisobedience I have the LFA and the Work Axe with matching numbers. Decided I could pass on the cruiser, although it looks fun, too.

    Nice! Lamaca seemed to do really well, that was still a fair sized log for an axe this size. Loved the bushcraft!

      The butt end, for sure. Too big for this little guy. Need something thicker and heavier for this hard, stringy stuff.

    I have always been impressed with quality of the Lamaca axes. I wonder if a slightly longer handle would make the small forest axe more versatile and a maybe even more fun to use.

      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому

      I’ve no doubt if you pop this on a 28” handle it’ll be a much better axe. I’m sure I will so at some point.

  • @ethicalaxe

    As for prices. It costs a lot to do a good job making a new axe. There are individual blacksmiths who make incredible heads but the handles aren't always to the same standard. Without actually getting to hold one yet it seems like Lamaca makes a premium axe all around. Like you said I'd rather have this than a new GBA. Who has in my opinion completely given up on handle shaping.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +3

      In terms of pure efficiency, there’s no way this axe is worth the money, but then no high end axe is. GBAs handles are nice sticks of wood, but they thicc boys.

    Awesome video Kevin !! That lamaca is no slouch man, I didn’t think Lane would put out an inferior product by any means I knew it would be great !! Seeing it in action 🙌🙌 when you said it’s nice to have the extra half in ask the misses 😂!! I really love that sheath toy made for your double bit !! What kind of snaps do you use, I can’t seem to get good luck with snaps. The ones i have seem to fall apart quite often.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +1

      Mine are just cheap snaps too. I had issues with one. I just beat the hell out of them until the stay put.

      @@KevinsDisobedience haha !! Ahh gotcha ok yeah I feel like the shank on mine is just a little short for the weight leather I’m using so I have to thin the leather in the area I’m putting the snap 👍

    Looks like this video is really blowing up! That’s a sexy axe. I had considered their cruiser double back when it came out, but I couldn’t afford it. Really cool to own such a unique axe. Looks like a better version of a gransfors, like you said. What are your plans for it in terms of future use?

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +2

      Nah, not really blowing up, any title with GBA or Lamaca will get eyeballs. Kinda annoying really. But I enjoy making the vids so I’ll keep on making them. That was a big tree you processed. Did your really process all of that in one day? That was a big effort. As far as use, it’ll just be another light axe in the chopping rotation. Probably going to sell my HB and Husky cross and buy something else. Thanks for watching. We should chop together sometime. Cheers.

    • @Codi_Clapper

      @@KevinsDisobedience Ah, I gotcha. That is a bit annoying haha. Yeah, certainly keep making the vids! At least these types of review videos are fun to make.
      Yes, I did process that tree in one day. It took me about 4 and a half hours. I was beat! It's crazy how much you learn from the challenge, even if it isn't so obvious. I can tell that I'm getting more comfortable with my technique.
      Would love to chop sometime! Pm me on messenger if you find yourself a free weekend.
      Cheers!

    I love the GB...
    However, I really love the old GBA/GAB heads...and then haft them myself.
    This looks to be a VERY nice example of a light duty forest axe...
    May look to acquire one eventually.

      @@KevinsDisobedience Whole heartedly agree. That would be a great option for many of us.
      This Lamaca forest axe does appear to be a better version of the current commercial GB Forest axe.
      For me, I am going for the Work axe...and as you suggested in another thread, contact GM(?) about a custom, afterwards. I want to support the combined efforts of those behind Lamaca first.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +1

      ML Forge is the blacksmith, I believe. I never spoken to him personally, but a friend is in the process of designing an axe with him. I had the work axe; it’s basically a pretty Welsh pattern, so might want to use one of those first if you haven’t already to see how you like it.

  • @greenfaring2501

    Beautiful axe. And I agree on bucking with small axes - I tend to come more down on the wood for safety. Not sure I’ll order one to be sent to Europe, but there are other choices. Cheers

    • @KevinsDisobedience

      They really are pretty. I don’t have a link, but if you google Lamaca Axes the site will come up. Unfortunately they don’t have any in stock. You’ll have to sign up for their email notifications if you want one, as they rarely come up and when they do they’re gone in hours.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +1

      Depends on what you need it to do. There are definitely better light weight splitters, which is what I look for in a camp axe. I’ve been using CT new HB and liking it a lot.

    • @JourneyNorthAK
      @JourneyNorthAK 2 роки тому +1

      Pack axe is used more for chopping than splitting here..and due to one bad apple at council..I will never again do business with them as long as they are affiliated.

    Nice axe ! Thx for the video ! I think Lamaca need to create a new model axe with this size of handle but with a bigger and wider head for more power but not big like the work axe . Like a felling axe but with the size of a bushcraft axe . A mini felling or a mini tasmanian axe .

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +1

      I couldn’t agree more. Not sure what happened to them, but I was hoping for a true work axe weight-2.75-3.25 pf head on a 28” handle. Hope they do it…

  • @chimmy4244
    @chimmy4244 2 роки тому

    Man I came sooo close to ordering one of those this winter. The only thing that stopped me was the handle length. How do you think it would handle on a 28" haft? Cool chopping footage!

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому +1

      Be better with a 28” handle. If you can get just the head, I’d get one.

  • @contemporaryprimitiveman3469
    @contemporaryprimitiveman3469 2 роки тому

    Interesting comments about going to 28” handle. Personally, I find up to 21” or so for a hatchet and 28” and up for an axe to be useful. The 22-28” boys axe length just doesnt work for me.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 роки тому

      For me, gotta be 16” or less for hatchet and 24”-30” for a user. But whatever works for you, keep doing it.
