      Thank you! Yes, I do use that method, it is very useful if the axe gets stuck in a round and the extra weight helps to pop it open. Actually I also learnt it from an old timer. Thanks for watching!

    It strikes with real authority. Must have one. It is sublime.
    Although, I tend to agree with the practicality of that head on a longer handle.
    This crosses into the field of fine industrial artwork. The beauty of form following function present in this tool is breathtaking.
    I can see the need for a technique change wielding that heavy head, but the performance increase with every singe blow may add up to fewer strikes necessary to complete a job.
    I’ll be honest, it’s so pretty, I just want to hold it as I watch UA-cam videos about axes. The fact that it works so effectively is just icing on the cake.

    • @bundufundi

      Yes, I agree, that’s why I haven’t replaced the handle. It looks so good as it is like a perfectly scaled down version of a racing axe. In my opinion, Tuatahi are making the highest quality axes available today when you consider functionality, fit and finish. Thanks for watching!

      They’re definitely the top of the stack. They’re expensive , but knowing what I know about forging ,grinding , hardening and tempering cutlery, their prices are not out of line with the amount of skill, time and effort it takes to produce such a tool. With a modicum of care, they could still be the best axe in the village 500 years from now.

    Thanks for the video. I ordered a work axe and camp axe last week. I ordered the camp axe with the short handle and we will see how it works. If it is to short, I will change the handle but I want to see how it works as designed before changing. I think the Mfg knows more about their axe than I do at this point.

    I am also an axe swinger, helping my parents chopping up logs and splitting the gnarliest of woods for 20 years. Last year i got the Tuatahi Work Axe, and it quickly became clear that Tuatahi doesn't make axes for beginners, and you have to be physically strong to wield anything they make. I have no problems with any axes since im also into bodybuilding, so I can handle any of these axes with ease, but I see why some folks might get fatiqued really quickly. What im trying to say is that Tuatahi makes axes for people that knows how to swing one to begin with.
    Nice video 👍

      Hi Mike, thanks for subbing, much appreciated! You will not be disappointed with both Tuatahi axes. I also own the work axe and the quality of both is incredible. After three hours of use in various woods the camp axe is still razor sharp, no impact on the edge at all. Happy days!

    The axe is designed to be a camping axe, the length is considered just right for a pack axe by tuatahi, they will not supply it with a longer handle, Ben stuck his own on, would be good to see you put a longer handle on for a comparison now that you have tried the company one.
    I am on the fence at the moment, I will get one, just not sure about the handle, I love the handle on my tuatahi work axe, but that is a longer handle and a much heavier axe.

    • @bundufundi
      @bundufundi  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, the handle is so well made and superbly fitted as you would expect from Tuatahi so I want to use it some more before considering a change. Also, Tuatahi know a lot more about axes than I do so perhaps I need to get more of a feel for it. Don't get me wrong this thing is fantastic, the highest quality, and I am totally happy to have one so you would not be disappointed if you got one. I'm not sure about this as a pack axe though, it's pretty heavy for a back pack for any long carry!

    My Tuatahi Camp axe of a Basque competition handle is my favorite "work axe" I have. & it busts out chips man I tell you. But I should have just ordered the head. The handle it comes with is just to short in my opinion & you dont get what its full capabilities are on that short handle. & like I said it performs the best out of all my axes for chopping, & I have a lot of axes so that says a lot. Thanks for the video brother

Yup my swing is a bit messed up 😂 I have done a lot of spoon carving and one handed use with a right hand and also somehow learned to split with my right hand lower down years ago which means when I try and do a felling swing it feels wrong. To be honest, I think the Tuatahi Trapper axe is a much more versatile smaller axe and would be my general purpose go to for a Tuatahi. Thanks for your comment!
