I am an ESL teacher and just received a new student from Zimbabwe. I greeted her in Shona and her eyes lit up! Thank you for this video! It made our first meeting so special!!!!
Thank you so very much for the lesson you truly are a princess I suffer from spinal cancer and have a wonderful team of carers many of whom are Shona speakers and I was looking for some words that would show them how special they are and how much they mean to me and I thought what better than to show them respect for their language thank you so much for your help❤
Jesus, you are beautiful 😍 I've had many friends from Zimbabwe and South Africa, and Shona is a beautiful language to listen to. I find the languages in the Southern portion of Africa are so warm, and sing-song-y. And my friend's Zimbabwean Mom got me addicted to ox tail back in the day. Very good food!!
Mangwanani Rosvi Princess! Thank you for the lesson. hope everyone there is safe! Looking forward to view your new lesson. I got my friend here so ots nice to know them better.
I want to travel to Zimbabwe someday and while studying about it, of course I wouldn’t let the languages/daily local dialects aside, so I’m running to know a little more about everything that composes this beautiful country. Thanks for the video and a great hug from Brazil 💕
I'm sending your you tube posts to my daughter... she is going to visit her fiancé' very soon in Zim & I want her to be able to greet the family properly ...hoping she will gain some favor. I am very excited for she & her little ones but, also a bit concerned with layovers in other countries on the way and the state of global safety. Thank you for your kindness, your beautiful posts and reminding us, who have never been how beautiful it will be there for travelers. Also, I am teaching my grandsons (her children ) the 10 basic words their father taught me so they don't "lose" the language and can learn more too.
So I just learned how to say, how are you, and have a few co-workers from Zimbabwe. The smiles on their faces were all worth it. I will learn all 5 words this weekend.
I lived in mutare for two years and it makes me laugh knowing this is how I sounded when I first got there. Murungus would absolutely butcher everything. It would sound more like mack-a-dee. It took me awhile to learn but I absolutely love the language!
Hey Keagan I’m glad you love the language. We all start from somewhere in learning the languages . I am learning Spanish and when I meet my friends who speak the language they will be laughing 😂 because I will be butchering their language. The good thing is we all learn at the end of the day. Thank you for your support
Hello! I am Mexican and my partner is from Zimbabwe. You are correct!!!! I really think its very sweet when they speak Shona, very relaxing language but super lively when spoken fast! Thank you for showing us words and you are great language teacher!! I really like when you explained the differences of "Ma-" and "Wa-" , I assume that similar to a prefix that's added in order to indicate respect or friend/casual talk. Overall, thank you and hopefully your family and you are safe!
I just surprised our Domestic here in Cape Town with your greetings and she was dumbfounded, she is such an angel and I love your culture so much, not even to speak of the pap!
Hey! This tutorial was very helpful... It helped me to talk to one of my friend from Zimbabwe... And he was too happy when I spoke to him in this language... Thank you! 😊 Waiting for more
I am doing a project for school and we have to pick a country to do our project on, I chose Zimbabwe, everyone was making fun of me because of the food in Zimbabwe and all of the crime. But I didn’t care because every part of the world, every culture is beautiful in its own way. 🥰But we have to learn to greet in the language most common in the country we chose. So this video was extremely helpful, thank you.🙏🥰
Hi Kiylah! I'm so glad the video was helpful. Thanks for choosing Zimbabwe on your project. In terms of crime Zimbabwe have a low crime rate though. I like the way you are so passionate about your project keep it up!
I like my friend and their mother language is Shona. 🤭 I told them Waswera sei? 😆 thank you so much!!! You are a wonderful teacher, greetings from México!🇲🇽
I think Malawians you're just our brothers by blood by fate , remember Rhodes realized to make a prosperous Africa he needed all Bantus in one Federal gvt
love your energy , a few more takes will perfect your videos and present them as effective as you like them to be , watched this video along with my nephew 10 and niece 6 born in the UK ,who are really keen on learning . thank you please keep posting more .
Makadii, Rozvi Princess? Could you do more videos like this? There are other Shona language sites, but this video is one I have found to be most helpful.
Great video, my girlfriend learnt a lot from it but the only thing I want to say is that MA is not succeeded by a name but rather a TITLE, so MA-swera or MA-kadini is always followed by a respectful title like Father, Mother, Grandfather, Grandmother, aunt or uncle....keep it up, you should teach more Shona.
Can anyone recommend me more Shona resources? Growing up I spoke Shona fluently but have forgotten a lot since living in England and having fewer opportunities to practice. My listening/ understanding is still pretty good, so I want more UA-camrs/ podcasts etc that are in Shona that I can listen to to help me get back my vocabulary. Tatenda chaizvo 👏🏽
Quite interesting with the Makadii or wakadii...it follows that French has the same concept too. Addressing a senior or superior with 'Vous' as well for plural. Noticed also that like in Uganda with our Bantu languages, Shona doesn't 'genderise' verbs or nouns like many ancient languages have in their vocabularies. Simple language structure to learn. Am picking up fast, thanks!
