I know line twist isn't as big of a concern for baitcasting reels but for spinner nerds like me, I always pinch my line with a "tap water hot" rag/paper towel when spooling. It helps reset the memory so to speak of the mono/floro line has from the usually difference size spool diameter from the manufacture or other spool. Heat as well as the moisture helps. I'll take the freshly filled spinner spool and set in a bowl of hot water. Any way I'm stoked because after 40 +yrs of fishing I purchased my first baitcaster combo (shimano slx xt) today. I hope it can handle red fish!lol Thanks for your vids!

I’ve got that same Shimano SLX 150 DC reel with a 7’2” MH Shimano SLX rod. It is a nice combo with an awesome feel. These two were made for each other!

I haven't used a Curado or a SLX. But a store near me has 150 demos of both. I have to admit that the SLX felt smoother to me side by side in both right handed and left handed versions. None were DC models.
I will say this for anyone reading my thoughts. Whatever reel you get, if you aren't quite 100% happy, you can get bearing kits which will turn any reel into a gem. Including the most expensive ones you got.
I use that technique to spool my line too and boy does it make it easy!!

I usually get way more Senko bites when I rig them weightless t-rig with a 3/0 hook. That’s how Gary Yamamoto intended them to be rigged. They eat it on the fall

I have one of the display baitcaster handles that I have in a vice in my shop and I use that to synch the other baitcaster down when I do this.

Thanks for the info! I’m new to fishing and I couldn’t for the life of me wonder why my slx would backlash during the cast. I’ve already lost 2 spools of fluorocarbon and was about to switch to braid because I’ve just about given up. Hopefully third times the charm!...

I dig the Rittz bro, his music slapps. My first baitcaster was the Lew's American Hero because I wanted quality at a good price and am all for supporting our veterans. Once I get comfortable with it the Shimano slx DC will be my first big spend on a baitcaster.

Hello, I just wanted to give you a tip on running braid. If you have holes in your spool, you can actually tie the braid on the hole by using a uni knot.

All depends on what you want to spend. I’m going to throw out two options, both from the 6:
The Milliken MFer 7.2MH Moderate is an excellent all around Rod. $119
If you want to go big and do it all with one epic heater, the Sensory Series 7.1MH Fast is an all purpose rod that can do it all. I also love the 7.4 MH Fast. Both insanely awesome rods. $249 and worth every penny. Heaters.

Bradley Martin Thank you for taking the time to watch, subscribe and comment! Much appreciated. I love the SLX reel! But I no longer use Favorite rods. 6th Sense or Dobyns rods only for me. I will talk about this more in a future videos. But there are plenty of reasons why I made that decision.
@@JustinRoyal Curado DC and SLX is low end reels. I have Curado DC with Japanese hi speed bearings totally junk. I have set on 3 Avery other cast I have backlash. And no distance. Like 60 yards. Maybe Need to install original bearings. I think Scorpion DC is more reliable.

Well I've been looking at getting into baitcasters and I have one I purchased when I was like 12 and tried it out because ya know watching those bassmaster classics with ike and vandamn thinking I'm going to be standing up there next to them so I have to have a baitcaster used it 4 times and had a backlash each time because I had no clue what I was doing...well I just picked it up about a month ago and I've been using it correctly now lol now I just have to convince the woman to let me get like 3 or 4 of these reels lol wish me luck

Swmh there are little holes On the spool of baitcasters. Tie them thru there. What I always do.

Nice vid! i have been debating on getting this reel. What is the weight comparison to say the Abu Garcia ProMax? I am just wondering because another vid a guy said it felt a bit heavy?
I had a promax but it got stolen and while back and I can’t really remember but the weight is comparable. I haven’t had an issue with weight on the SLX DC and I have old hand and arm injuries. But I’ll pay closer attention now and try to touch on it in a future video. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching.

If you use electrical tape, you do know it is the adhesive that keeps the tape from detaching? What happens once that adhesive wears out? I think it may be safer to use the old method of using mono line backing.. just saying.

I've had the same piece of tape on reels that are up to 15 years old. Trust me, that adhesive is best described as gooey at this point and the tape looks like its ribbed for her pleasure. That trick has never failed.

Just remove the side plate and it comes right out.

Btw If the reel checks the spool speed every nanosecond it has to check it a billion times in one second. But it checks only every millisecond. That's the 1000 per second.
Your not suppose to adjust the tension. Your only suppose to use that to remove the side to side movement in the spool.

I do not. My advice, go with something else. They aren’t all they are cracked up to be. I’ve moved on from that brand.
What do you think about the shimano 201k compare to this slx dc
4B vEnOm I have the 200K. The Curado is more rugged and casts just as nice. The SLX is awesome but less rugged. I’d say they are comparable to one another and you can’t go wrong with either. Just depends on what’s more important and whether you want DC tech.
For the dc reels you want to tighten the spool tension until the bait doesn’t fall at all... until it falls after you shake it! That’s what I’ve heard! Very good video! You earned a new sub. 👍🏼🎣👍🏼🎣

Do you have to stop the line with your thumb on 2-4 or no
I never fish with it on 4. I stop the line with my thumb every cast and I thumb the reel every cast. Not doing so will develop bad habits when you go to fish with a conventional baitcaster. DC reels are not backlash proof. No matter what anyone says. If you want to get good distance and be accurate, you will still need to have good thumb technique and discipline. The DC brakes help, but they do not 100% prevent failure. Not the way I have mine adjusted anyway. Some people may tighten them down to where they don’t need to thumb it. But not me.

I have a feeling for you, the answer would be no. What you want is a Metanium MGL. They are on another level.

I am admittedly terrible pitching and flipping is the SLX DC option good for a heavy flipping setup? With like a 6’10"or 7’ heavy rod. I have a Tatula 100HS on a 7’2" m/h St.Croix that I use for spinning/topwater and a Lews Mach Crush combo on a 7’ m/h that I use for cranking/jerk. Do most of my fishing from banks so don’t wanna real long heavy rod. Appreciate any feedback.
I’m no good either. Still learning. I will flip and pitch with it sometimes but I’ll be the first one to tell you, it isn’t backlash proof no matter what. I still backlash while skipping, pitching, and flipping, DC or no DC. It’s all in the angler, not the reel. But I love my SLX DC reels for a lot of applications. I own several now. Hope this helps. I might go Curado K for power. But the DC brakes on setting 4 could help hone your skills. Tough call.
